MUA knee so stiff<<

I’m going to be a bit blunt here, so please try and forgive my rather direct comments on the situation you are finding yourself in at the moment. If you’ll read back through your entire thread, I would hope you could see how poorly this surgeon has treated you. I cannot say if he is inept, disinterested in your case, or what exactly. But it has been obvious to many members and staff here that he was not providing good treatment for you. We strongly recommended you seek additional opinions elsewhere and even had our staff member, @Jaycey, agree to assist you in finding a good revision surgeon for you. We honestly care about you and have been quite distressed about your poorly functioning knee. But, since you were firm that you didn’t want to see a different surgeon, we backed off and hoped for the best.

I think your surgeon revealed his true colors in this last visit. His comments indicate an extraordinarily large ego and a lack of compassion for your continuing pain and suffering. I also believe he knows something is wrong with the knee and just doesn’t care to deal with it. The absolute worst thing you could ever do it to return to this doctor.

I can only see two options for you. Either live with things the way they are or agree to let us help you get to a different surgeon for a consultation. You will need to drive a ways, but I think Jaycey could be of help to you in working out the logistics of getting wherever a good surgeon is located. She lives in the UK and has knowledge of many of the doctors there. I hope you agree to this option and let us help you.
 
My OH recently been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia so cannot travel far nowadays- he seen knee surgeons at the hospital keep getting told the same thing- cannot do anymore for his right knee so send him to physios . and nowadays spend most days resting on the bed because the pain in his knee is so bad.
 
I speak from experience, if the knee bend is stuck, PT will only cause frustration and pain. You have to seek a second opinion. Do accept help finding an appropriate surgeon for that.

I have a friend with Lewy Body. My sympathies.
 
I’m so sorry your husband has another diagnosis and is in so much pain. :console2:

My OH has ow had three different opinions and all said nothing can be done- it seems he got to live with chronic pain
 
I’m so sorry to hear about the dementia diagnosis. That definitely can complicate things since the only hope you have for some type of relief would be to seek opinions from larger hospitals outside your immediate area.

If you have access to a pain management clinic or specialist, you might contact them for assistance with the pain. If you can receive home health, some very gentle therapy to keep his other muscles somewhat active might be helpful. But if you must get in a car and try to drive to therapy sessions, they certainly could do more harm than good.

My heart goes out to you both. This is a difficult situation for you both. Please post any time you need someone to talk to. We’ll be here for you. With dementia, the caregiver can suffer the most. If you have family or friends nearby, lean on them a little so that you get a break for all this now and then.

Agreed.... so very sorry... Please take out time for yourself now and then for self-care. :sad:
 
My OH off to physio again tomorrow again- more force to bend- hope they can break the adhesions -well thats what they hope ? anything to avoid more surgery- what we hope for are new ferrules on his crutches because that will be the only benefit we get, He getting to a point where he can hardly put wait on it
 
SURPRISE SURPRISEE - physio stated he cannot do anymore for my OH - will refer back to pain management and knee consultant= he did state it certainly not adhesions perhaps more mechanical perhaps ? though we did get some new ferrules for his crutches :rotfl:
 
looking online -youtube in particular and watched The knee guys -talking about stiff knees- I read some of the comments below the video -taking note about knee stiffness - the Drs stated that knee revision is not effective in many cases and alot of patients will most properly have to live with pain etc- plus if they do go along with the op will have to go though alot of physio- Just wondered if others have seen this video and there comments on it.
Would like to see if it is the case and there a chance that the op will not be effective for my OH and the 3 surgeons we have seen so far are right all along
 
There is no way anyone can guarantee what the result will be after any surgery. There are always risks. Every person has to make the choice for themselves as to what they want to try or just live with. But….since you have not sought an opinion from a larger hospital with more specialized surgeons who maybe could offer some hope for your husband, you are making your decisions without all the possible information in front of you. I understand the difficulty of traveling some distance to see a specialist and it’s even more difficult when dementia is in the mix. You most certainly have a challenge with this situation and I wish I could tell you there was a definitive answer.

It was my understanding that your husband’s knee was painful, which can be quite a different issue than “stiffness.”
 
Trouble is now its getting impossible to travel far with my OH- in connection with his knees , due to his dementia, so we having to rely on our nearest hospital,
Plus poor husband he can hardly lift his right leg up now and he spoke of severe pain and very swollen,
 
I agree that you are in a very difficult position. Do you have any friends or family who could help with transportation to an out-of-town doctor? In dealing with a friend who developed dementia, it was helpful to have one of us in the car beside her to deal with any insecurities she had on the trip and someone else to drive. It got to be impossible to drive safely and keep an eye on her.
 
OH seen his GP about large bad itchy red areas on his ankle and feet , had these for some time now and I thought may develop into ulcers - the Doctor stated they were venous eczema and partly due to his operations on knees and DVT etc. he was given two creams to rub on -- just wondered has anyone else on here had this ?
 
OH going to see the surgeon on the 11th Sept -again . perhaps another statement -theres nothing we can do .""
only make it worse. nasty infections etc . this time IM going to say he NEEDS IT DONE NOW - infections, stiffness who cares. he need some of his life back, while he can enjoy it,
 
I'm glad to hear you are going to be firm with them. I agree he has suffered more than he should have and it's time for some real help. My prayers are with you!
 
Tomorrow my OH goes back to the Surgeon - cannot help but to feel negative of any promising help-
More Surgeon talk of - he wont make it through the op - he will get infections- cannot see how its going to improve -scare tissue will come back-
Though this time we going to say - well remove the leg that will get him thinking and show the serious nature we feel on he cannot continue with this pain and inability to bend or straighten his leg
