TKR Knee discomfort

I have tried Vicks Vapo Rub over the knee and around the leg, Lasting Touch therapeutic gel, and a combination of tramadol (25 mg) and Tylenol to help. Gentle massage before bed, middle of the night along with a short walk/stretch all helped me manage the over the night ritual. I've not slept through the night since surgery Oct. 22.

Just be sure not to put any creams or gels directly on the incision area until the wound is completely healed. Ice can also help and it’s fine to use an ice pack as you sleep as long as you keep a towel between your skin and the ice source.

A word of caution:

While this is probably fine for someone who is at 8 weeks post-op, it is not for those earlier in recovery.

With the exception is Active Antimicrobial Hydrogel (which is formulate for wound healing), we should not apply any product on or near the incision until it is fully healed -- unless, of course, it is prescribed by your surgeon.

Sorry not been on here for quite a few months now and recovering quite well , it’s been just over 8 months since my TKR and l’m saying doing well which was correct till about week ago .
I have a good range of movement and flexibility in the knee but now it’s hurting at the front around the kneecap and is still warm to touch.
When l put pressure on the knee going up or down the stairs it gives a lot of discomfort from around the front area of the knee, it doesn’t keep me awake or have the pain like after the operation but gives like a throbbing sharp pain when the knee is used for stairs or getting off the chair .
I cycle and swim regularly now and l don’t get that problem with these activities.
I did go for a 5 mile walk recently and l think these sharp pains started then, anyone got ideas what is causing this all of a sudden.
The knee still feels stiff in the morning or after resting which is fine but it’s this recent pain that l cannot understand.

This is an indication that doing a 5-mile hike was too much for your knee at its healing stage. Cut back on your activities, ice and elevate more. This should allow the knee to settle down.
