TKR kmak's TKR recovery thread

@kmak81230 Hmm...5 miles at 3 weeks? Unlikely, no matter how good her ROM was. I suspect that reality has faded and twisted with the mists of time (just like my sister keeps telling me how she had very little pain with her TKR--but I remember how much she complained). Seems like you need to agree to not talk about knees or recovery, if possible.

And good news about the bike!

Her " sister" is my neighbor....had hers done 4 wks apart, walking on the road at 2 weeks, etc, etc, etc...SERIOUSLY?? Take a breath, Thursday is just 2 days and a wake up away!

What a great hostess you are! I hope you didn't chip any teeth or put too many bite marks in your tongue. I met the opposite of your guest this weekend: a man who, when introduced to me as "the lady who had the knee surgery," said, "Don't worry. You'll feel like yourself in two years." What??? His surgery was about two years ago, and he says he has just "gotten his stride back" and "doesn't think about his knee very often any more." His wife confided that he didn't go for a walk with her for 5 months after the surgery. She was amazed when I said I could probably go for a 30-minute walk with her if we didn't have to go too fast.

Swiss cheese tongue again @Polkadot! Could I please swap your acquaintance with my house guest. You must've felt like an Olympian as a comparison! I'm feeling like a lazy sloth -- I may have to use a water spritzer before I walk into the house tonight so that it looks like I was sweating at the gym. Did you paint that picture that is your new avatar? It's beautiful!

Yep, that's an old one of mine. I'm hoping that seeing it on my posts will get me going again. Thanks!

I think that instead of spritzing, a spritz-ER might be in order--or a vodka something--is vodka odorless or just tasteless?? Can't remember. You could spill a little on yourself if you really want that slightly-used gym look.

oh my goodness kmak81230 ~ i am cringing for you. i hope you can change the topic tonight and the next 2 nights. i'm sure there's lots more to talk about. ugh ~ haven't we all heard that before? :oyvey::nah:

You could always say that no two knees are a lot and that you had a whole lot of work done inside of your knee during you tkr. Anything to make them hush about 'how much better they did than you'!

I think you should bash her knee with a baseball bat! That should keep her quiet, well at least regarding her comments, for the rest of her visit! Oh, and don't share your ice either, as she surely won't need it!:rotfl:

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do! I'm sure she will be quite impressed with how *hard* you are working!:rotfl: If not, you always have a back up plan!

She is actually a lovely person, just a little intense.

I am sure that she is. I hope that you know that I am only joking! Would never advocate violence against someone else. Just trying to lighten up impact of her intensity.

OMG, guest from Hell!!! Is motel an option....for you? When does she leave?

On a more serious note, I'm really sorry to see you've been struggling on the weekend of all times; aargggh! That's just wrong, any way you look at it; pffft! No wonder you are doubting the choice of a *brave new knee*, I mean, who wouldn't be? All that yo-yoing back and forth between "Good Times/Bad Times," gets old, quickly. I'm sure you are doing everything possible to get this dastardly knee to calm down, but you must curtail Yoga in bed. Very bad. Very, very bad. Sad.

Look, I'm at a loss here. I don't know what to do except send you another shiny, red patience box. Or would you prefer blue? If you go for the blue, it can be kept on top of your dresser instead of under the bed. It's like the knee, no rhyme or reason, just how it is. Yes, you're 14 weeks post-op, beyond the mythical, magical, 3 month, milestone, yet....here you are, with a swollen, painful knee. Unfortunately, there's still a whole lot of healing that needs to take place, and I know you know that. Three quarters of a year if I'm to be persnickety, but I won't be that way. *Some* people might feel fab at 12 weeks, (your charming houseguest) and others may take, ....well....longer! I suggest wearing your "Scenic Road," T-Shirt to bed while listening to "Comfortably Numb."

While chatting with my PT today and venting about the numb side of my knee, he told me his has been that way for 20 years! Thanks, Gary, I needed that, lol. He had an ACL repair, so different procedure, but still. Of course, being Mr. Glitter, he did say it doesn't negatively impact his function whatsoever. Heck, it doesn't even feel peculiar any more. I believe him.

Hang in there my friend. When your hand starts to slip, we'll all pitch in and grab it, eh?

Thanks all for the pick-me ups. Just a little downward blip on the year long radar of TKR recovery. I think the houseguest just caught me at a particularly vulnerable time. Knee felt quite good today actually - a little nervy but also the good stretch feeling on my walk without discomfort. Blue is my favorite color @Pheebs52 so will look for that box of patience. 20 years of Comfortably Numb ..... Good thing I like the song.:) :-) (:

And no, you certainly didn't need a Knee SuperStar houseguest right now; ugh! Not her fault, of course, but bad timing for you.

Cheers on today feeling better!

Week 14
Kind of in a holding pattern I think over the past week as I don't know that I have anything stunning to report on the recovery front. Less discomfort when walking but still notice the knee most of the time. Have had a good couple of days mentally (yeah!) - though 12 hour days at work so too much sitting. Have tried to elevate as I can. I had my third spin class today. Went down 3 notches on the seat height since last Thursday so perhaps a sign of increased flexion - and did 6 miles in 35 minutes. I am able to kneel on one of the weight machines at the gym. Not full weight on the TKR knee but good to know that I can kneel if needed - and it was not uncomfortable. I have my first therapeutic massage on legs tomorrow - curious to see how that will feel. Stay tuned . . . .

you are doing amazing, with stamina and also your increased flexion. i look forward to hearing how your therapeutic massage on your legs goes tomorrow. i'm sure you will love it, in a different, healing sort of way lol!
