THR KattyAZ post op

Thank you for the details of your first night at home. My DH doesn't want to sleep downstairs with me after surgery. He wants me to phone him:shocked:So nice to hear your DH is helping through the night. I have a question how does the post-op pain compare to the pre-op hip arthritic pain.
 
@BeBe. The post op pain is totally different. This pain is muscle pain and stiffness. Once you move around it works itself out. It is true what they say, the more you move the less it hurts.
My pre op pain was horrible and never ending.
 
My nights are getting easier. I can get in and out of bed with the pillows on my own! I wake up between 1 and 2 for potty and meds and can sleep until 6 or 7 or 8. I am surprised that I am sleeping as well as I am. I hope it continues.

Decided not to go to San Diego next weekend for the Breeders Cup, I think the 6 hour drive and the uncertainty of the viewing area is too much so soon after surgery.

I am insisting that hubby go, I already paid for a cute place to stay (sigh I am going to miss seeing the ocean) and he can sell my tickets. I will cheer from home.

I have my first PT on Monday and I plan to start working from home next week.

Here is to an uneventful recovery!
 
Glad you are re doing so well :0) I'm just over 3 weeks post op and every week there is a huge difference in the recovery. Keep positive and listen to your body don't over do it (even though it's very tempting)!
I will agree that your planned trip to San Diego might just be a bit too much for you right now!!!
 
I over did it yesterday! I was getting a new freezer and instructing my sister on what to move where. I was walking around without my walker and I really felt it last night.
Today is ice and elevation day. And I am ready for a shower.
I am so lucky to have wonderful family members like my sister and husband to help me out!
I must remember this is only day 5 after surgery

Well - you are now officially a member of the club. At only 5 days out - way too much activity. Use that walker until you start leaving it behind. Hope you can rest today!
 
@kattyaz, So glad to hear that you are doing so well. I'm glad you didn't go to San Diego. I felt really nervous driving in LA traffic after my surgery. Keep up the great work. You did it!

Rest and ice will surely do the trick. You don't want to end up in the dreadful ODIC

Hope you are taking it easy. The ODIC (overdid it club) is one I still pop in and out of temporarily.
Not a fun club, but hope you are feeling better this evening.

I remember how much I resisted ice with my first surgery. Who wants to be cold? But it really works. Glad you are up and about.

I had outpatient therapy today. He gave me a print out of exercise to do at home, once or twice a day. I only need to come in once a week to check my progress. He told me I can go to using a cane instead of the walker, I can sleep on my side as long as I use the pillows between my legs.
I did not do any exercise while there, just walked and then walked with a cane.
I went to Walgreens and picked up a cane. :ice:

Well done you! Don't over do it though and remember that ice :9)

I was looking at that same cane on the Walgreen's website yesterday! I am to the point where I am going to break down and buy one to use for the few weeks before my surgery. I have a business trip the week before my date and I think I'll need a cane to get through it. Love your "pumpkin spice" leggings too - very autumnal!
 
So last night was my first bad night. I did not take my usual meds and the thought of sleeping on my side was ever present. I could not get comfortable.
I slept on my side and my back, I was constantly moving pillows. Tonight will be better
Today I am back on track. I have been working from home and I decided to give pain meds Another week
I am also going to go to San Diego tomorrow. About a 4 hour drive to Alpine for an overnight stay. My husband will golf on Thursday, I plan to do some work and check out some casino games.
I will hang with friends in Del Mar while hubby is at the races.
It is amazing what can be done 9 days after surgery
I could be back at work by the 6th, at least half time.

Don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer but just remember...just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.
That lovely no hip pain adrenaline rush can stick you right in the ODIC if you aren't careful.
Please take care. Seems super early to me for all that.
