I can't believe that your husbands buy you clothes? Mine won't buy clothes for himself, let alone for me!:)
He does choose nice jewelery though !
Glad to hear you are doing OK Kathy.
I can't believe the physio wants you to do squats, my exercises are just knee slides and raises, and standing up and sitting down, together with pushing against an exercise band.
It seems to be working too.

I can't do squats and I'm a lot further out than any of you. Mind you I haven't really tried!

I use Miralax too. It does the trick. When I came home from the hospital I was so bound up I thought I'd have to go to the emergency room. My visiting health nurse gave me this cocktail recipe. 1 dose Milk of Magnesia, 4-6 ounces of prune juice, and a couple ounces of 7-up. She said to mix it all up in a glass and drink it down, but if you can't handle that to just take the ingredients one right after another. Take the milk of magnesia, drink down the prune juice, and then drink down the 7-up to get the taste out of your mouth.

I tried it, and it worked wonderfully.

Now, I use Miralax every other day if I have a problem and it works very well too. And like Debbie said, there is no taste, and no gas or cramps.

Oh Kathy, constipation is the pits for sure it gives you an all around yucky feeling! The only thing that works for me is Metamucil I take 1 Tbsp in a glass of water once a day, and badda-bing-badda-boom, I'm good to go!!!

I'll have you know I usually don't share this much about me! You got the luck of the draw, kiddo!:heehee:

Thanks Debbie. I haven't heard of MiraLax, but have just Googled it and we can get it here.

Nancy, I wish my GP was as thoughtful as yours. I'll have to give the surgery a call tomorrow to ask for something.

That cocktail sounds good, Titianlady.

Jacky, I sure appreciate you sharing your intimate secrets with me. I'll be sure it stays with me only :heehee:

Kathy I mentioned the cocktail because I thought maybe MiraLax would be hard to get in the UK. The cocktail worked wonderfully and the ingredients are easy to get. Give it a try. I was so bound up I sent my husband right to the grocery store while the health nurse was here. I drank it that afternoon, and by the next morning, viola!!

My Dr gave me the stool softners but they take days of continual use to do anything if you are already bound up. Once I was relieved, I took one every morning, and every evening to keep from getting bound up again due to the pain meds. It worked well.

I stopped the stool softeners and now use MiraLax. That stuff is great.

The MiraLax is very expensive here, Titianlady. I will ask my daughter to buy me the ingredients tomorrow for the cocktail and then ask my GP if that doesn't work. Thank you. I have never suffered with this in my life before, so it is a complete shock.

Oh, Kathy, I had never been like that in my life either. It was so bad. I honestly thought I would have to go to the hospital for relief. Thank goodness the health nurse knew what to do for me. I drank a big serving of that cocktail.

Take the stool softeners twice a day. They will keep things 'soft' enough so you don't feel like you are trying to pass bricks. That is just the word for it. Such a painful thing.

I sure hate that you have to experience this so badly. I've been there and don't wish it on you.

Please feel better soon sweetie.

Kathy, I had stool softeners in the hospital but they didn't work. I asked for ice old prune juice, and I drank it like I was chugging a beer. 3 doses of that and bam, I was back to my old self, regular every day. The prune juice doesn't taste great but it is full of vitamins and the colder the better. Give it a try, it can't hurt! And dried prunes aren't that bad either.

Otherwise, hope you are well!

So sorry about the constipation Kathy! I wish I had that, surprisingly I have had the opposite with explosive diarrhea and thats with heavy duty pain meds. Not sure why my body is going that way, but will be glad when it firms up a bit. Hope things get moving for you soon, that is a miserable and sometimes really painful feeling. Hugs!

DHare63' I sure love the prune juice!! It is a great way to stay regular. I also love to eat just prunes. I buy a container of Suns Sweet prunes and Eat them whenever I crave something sweet. They're full of vitamins and anti oxidants

Kathy, you can get the Lactulose, which is what they gave me in hospital, from the pharmacy without prescription.
Hope this helps.

My daughter couldn't get the Milk of Magnesia - apparently "there is a production problem" according to the woman behind the counter. We'll just have to try somewhere else. In the meantime I have the prune juice. It's really YUK, but I will do anything as long as it helps the situation.

Well, I 'went' this morning and fairly easily - what a relief (no pun intended :heehee:). Yesterday I had three glasses of prune juice and two Senokots after I had eaten a little last night. My Mum also suggested yesterday that it might be the Ibruprofen causing the constipation and I said I doubt it, it's probably the Tramadol. But then she asked when this constipation started and when I had thought about it, it was about the same time I started to take the Ibruprofen, so I stopped taking that yesterday. So I don't know which one of these worked, or if it was a combination of them all, but I am thankful that something worked.

Having said that, all this week I have felt so sick. It feels just like morning sickness except that it lasts all day and I've hardly eaten this week. In fact I have lied to Ray and my Mum saying that I had eaten, when I hadn't, just to stop them worrying and trying to force me to eat.

AND my knee is still damn swollen and so no progress with bending

Sorry you are still suffering with the bad tum and sick feeling. If you are In a lot of pain then that can be cause of feeling sick and unable to eat I had it when I had a trapped nerve while I was on my last holiday, this knee recovery has been painful but nothing compared to the the pain I had then I lost 8 lb in 3weeks --- the only good thing to come out of it. Hope you soon feel better my lovely friend.

Also feeling sick is a part of constipation I know I have always suffered with it and if you are 'blocked up' anything you eat makes you feel bloated and sick .

Hope all the remedies you have been told about help I try to remember to take some Latulose at least twice a week then drink large glass of water and it usually keeps me 'regular'

Hang in there Kathy, it will get better.

I can say from experience that when I am constipated I get this sick feeling overall. It really throws everything off. Perhaps using the prune juice and other things has started you back towards a normal routine. For me, once I got my system moving, everything was fine.

Have you gotten the pt issue solved yet? They should be able to offer guidance on the swelling, etc. I also tale Celebrex which is an anti-inflammatory and I believe that has also helped with my swelling.

It still comes and goes but for the most part no longer bothersome.

Keep us posted, your support system is always just around the corner.

Be well my friend,

Dawn
