I have a check up with my consultant Thursday morning (I am hearing those letters 'MUA' me thinks) and then I come home for physio.

Good luck at check up Kathy hope all goes well and also with the physio . Hopefully this will be your turning point.

I went on exercise bike at PT the other day and it was great really thought it was going to hurt but it didn't.

Thinking of you today

Xxxxxxx good luck

Hi Kathy!
I am a long time serrapeptase fane. I take it for chronic sinusitis and knee pain. I stopped taking in as soon as I got my surgery date in May since it thins your blood. (just like the other otc anti inflammatories.)I started taking is again a few days ago. I do believe it has helped my swelling. You can get it at any vitamin store, or online.
What is this talk of MUA? Baby steps, my friend. Baby steps.

Hi Jess!
How are you doing?
We should call ourselves the 3 tired amigos!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:sleep:

Yes Ladyl me too, we just have to listen to our bodies as it is definitely in charge. Had some friends for dinner felt great all time i was cooking but then within an hour of them being here I just wanted to put my legs up and shut my eyes it was a struggle to stay awake . Hopefully once i can reduce the drugs will stay awake more often

Good to be retired can stay in bed as long as you want , without feeling guilty xxxx

It may not just be your medication. You are right in the middle of a major energy drain!! This surgery takes a great, great deal out of the body, and major healing is going on in that knee. Bone, soft tissue, muscles and tendons. No wonder we are tired!!
I'm three months plus out and still get tired easily. Healing is going on for at least the next 9 months!
Don't try to cut your meds just yet dear one. Your body is just expending a great deal of energy healing all that has been done to it. Your meds are necessary. Try to go with what your body is telling you, and relax and nap when you are tired. It really is the best thing.

Love getting good advice from my lovely friends who actually know what they are talking about as they have been through it so thank you .

Have finally learnt to listen to my body as it shouts at me loud and clear 'HAVE A REST ' zzz:  :

Oh dear, I am sorry that I had you all worried. It's been a hectic few days with family matters going on.

I had my check up with my consultant at the hospital Thursday morning. Well I was rather disappointed that I didn't get to see him (although I could see he was there and had no other patients) but one of his team. I knew what was coming, she wasn't pleased with my lack of knee bend. So she went and consulted with Mr Allen himself and she came back and said he wants me to come back on 6 December. They will then re-assess my knee bend and if they are still not satisfield, I will have to have the all dreaded MUA!

That same afternoon, a physiotherapist came to my home and told me I should be trying to bend my knee as much as is humanly possible, together with the extension. He measured my bend at 40 degrees, can you believe?! Bad! He said I should be exercising five times a day. So since then I have put my all into the knee bending and stretching and did feel some slight progress.

He came again yesterday morning (Monday) with a lady physiotherapist who he wanted to introduce me to as she will be coming to do my PT tomorrow morning (Wednesday). While they were here they got me to do a few knee bends and it had gone from 40 to 60 degrees, so I was pleased with that small improvement in four days. My extension was (eyeballed) at 10 and I thought it was better than that. He said I need to concentrate on bending my knee more when I walk.

I have a feeling this lady is going to work me really hard and I don't think she takes any prisoners :umm: so we'll see.

Kathy, I can understand why your doc would be concerned with your flexion only being 40 to 60. I know they say to take it slow in here, but I know I would be worried too. I will be interested to see what more people say here. Good luck to you.

Yesterday afternoon I was doing the exercise where you sit on a chair with your legs out straight with your good leg over your operated one and you push down with the good leg. Well, I pushed too hard, I could feel it and I heard a crack, like when one of your bones crack.

Today the knee has been grumbling like it hasn't grumbled before. I have been taking Tramadol (again) and paracetamols all day but it is still throbbing and achy and is very sore to touch. The area that hurts is just above the knee cap and at the top of the knee. I can walk okay (well, as good as I could before this happened). Does anyone think I might have damaged the implant in any way. I know they are strong, but....am still very worried.

Will need to ask the physiotherapist tomorrow.

Hi Kathy, nice to see you again and yes family matters do take front row seat that's for sure!:thumb:

Wow, you did have a lot going on and now your doc wants you busy with knee bends and extensions. I hope that PT lady will be a lady and work you, but not hurt you. But just in case, do you have a cellar or an attic? this way if she hurts you you can stuff her in there and she could be YOUR prisoner! Just say'n!:heehee:

You'd have to do a lot more than that to damage the implant, Kathy! One of those adhesions has given way. Pat yourself on the back, girl - what you've probably done is a DIY MUA! Just ice it more and take your pills. It should settle down eventually. And actually, under the quads tendon is one of the common places for adhesions to develop. You've made a start - well done you! :thumb:

Oh Josephine, I could kiss you :heehee: you have set my mind at rest! And thank you for the pat on the back, phew!

Kathy!! Thanks for the update!! We were getting worried! Well, now, we need to get your knee bending!! I too understand why the surgeon was concerned with a 40-60 degree bend at this point. And YEAAA, for breaking loose an adhesion!! That would be just what the MUA would do! I hope the PT can help you get more extension and flexation. I know you are afraid of the MUA, but the surgeon is giving you time to work with PT to avoid it, and I am thrilled for you. YOU CAN DO IT Kathy. :friends:

Kathy,
It sounds like you have been able to break up some scar tissue. If it were me I would keep up with the exercises the best you can and maybe you will be able to break up more on your own and not have to have the dreaded MUA.
