I think it's unlikely you need to 'wean off' the Tramadol because it's not that kind of drug. I was taking it 50-100mg 3-4 times a day for 3½ months and was able to just stop. However, I was gradually reducing my intake as the pain reduced.

I very much doubt you'll have any problems after only 4 months and on such a small dose.

Good to know @Josephine! I think I’ll stay on the Tramadol and just wean naturally when the pain gets to be less.

I thought I could cut out my dinner time pill yesterday. But I took out the garbage before my short walk and I went up the incline to go out of the underground parking... omg, my quads were sooooo sore after I had to ice them. I can’t belive how little exercise I can do before getting sore. I suffered all night and they’re still sore this morn. Will continue to ice them today... it will be interesting to hear what Physio will tell me on Thursday.

Not unusual for 4 weeks post-op. Especially with an incline. My driveway has that and I've only been able to manage that since about week 8. It just takes time and you're getting there......baby steps for awhile!!!

Thanks for the reassurances @Carriemay60. My urgent bladder got progressively worse with my hips deteriorating. I didn’t have a problem before. I wonder if it’s just your body not being well, or physiologically you know you can’t get to the bathroom as quickly. I hope it improves along with my hips!

Worry not! Many new hippies have this problem. Just allow time to get to where you need to go for awhile. This will fade with time.

Nothing more frustrating after finally finding a halfway comfortable position (as possible), then fiddling with the pillows and making sure the ice pack is where it needs to be and then *poof*, have to go pee again!!!

I got some great news at Physio today, I thought about driving (for the first time) but parking is hit and miss at this office so took a taxi instead.

My physiotherapist was really happy with my range and flexibility, said my surgeon did a fantastic job! :yahoo:He said he rarely sees someone at 4 weeks that is as far along as I am.

The issue I have is strength but that will come over time and with walking and exercise. I’m going to try and walk a little bit farther each day and faithfully do my abductor and quadriceps exercises. Feeling good!!:happydance:

Wonderful news @jwadds! Very happy you're doing so well. You're not quite at 4 weeks yet so just make sure that you don't overdo it with the walking and exercises, it's so easy to do too much. I hope you still elevate and ice after your walks!

Wonderful news @jwadds Four weeks with doubly hippy!! Amazing. Glad to also read bladder issues are common. I had ultrasound yesterday and everything looks normal. Reassuring as this second surgery has left my bladder very not normal feeling at all. Encouraging to know we’re not alone. Love seeing your rapid recovery. ❤️

    Hello @Fit4Family.
Yes it is very encouraging to know we’re not alone! These forums are quite amazing. I’ve learded a lot and feel quite close to my fellow hippies❤️. :friends:Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a convention and all meet each other!?

    Happy One Month Anniversary!
You're doing so well. I'm always amazed at the courage of bi-laterals. I can't even begin to imagine.
Keep up the good work and have a wonderful week!

Thanks has everyone! I can’t belive it’s only been 1 month. I feel pretty good! I’ve graduated to just using a cane in most instances. Still sore and stiff (like I ran a marathon) and I get tired easily but that’s to be expected only 1’month out!

I had a major milestone yesterday, I drove myself to the drugstore to pick up prescriptions! it’s only 7 blocks away but I a think I did pretty well getting in and out of the car without breaking hip
precautions too much. Was putting it off all day, think it was a confidence thing... I feel a lot better now that I’ve been out in the big world all by myself!
    :egypdance:
I’ve stopped icing, maybe I’ll try that today to see if that helps with the soreness. Also cut back in the dinnertime Tramadol with no ill effects so makes me feel better that I may not be totally addicted to it.

It sounds like your doing great @jwadds! And you had both hips done, wow! I'm at 3 months and I still have to ice occasionally, especially after doing chores, sitting at my desk too long or driving very far. I probably sound like a broken record on the forum about the ice. It's still your best friend right now so it might be a good idea for your soreness today. :ice: It really does help! Good news on cutting back your meds if you're able, I know you were really concerned about that.
