Bilateral THR Jwadds Recovery (2 hip to be square!)

@jwadds You will be able to go back to side sleeping eventually!! Though, for me anyway, it took some time before it stopped feeling like I was laying on bricks.

It sounds like you are doing very well -- keep up the good work. And be gentle and patient with your self .... you are only 2 weeks out form having 2 MAJOR surgeries!

I was also sent home with a staple remover - we Canadians are tough!! :giggle:

Seriously, I was told to take them to my family doctor, which I did. They give them to you in a sterile pack. I wanted to save mine for crafting and pretend I hadn't been given any but didn't want to risk not getting them out. I was laying down on the nurses bed to get mine out which was quite low compared to most medical exam beds thankfully. I thought mine looked like they could hold a bridge together but seriously did not hurt coming out.

The idea of staples seems rather barbaric and Frankenstein-ish, makes me cringe. Let alone "big, thick, heavy duty staples that you use with a staple gun" as you described them. Then they send you home with a staple remover!!!! :bolt:Can't the nurse bring her own tools? I can't imagine how they don't pull and hurt. Thankfully you got rid of them today. A relief, I bet. I hope all looks well.

You're amazing, doing this by yourself, as a bi-lateral.
I hope you have a Happy Two Week Anniversary tomorrow and a peaceful weekend!
@jwadds

Well today was a dud. My sister took me to my family doc this morning and after waiting for an hour he said they weren’t ready to come out yet and I should come back tomorrow!! So now I have an appointment for tomorrow at 1pm. I think he was just behind and he used my appointment time to catch up.

I did get antibiotics for UTI so guess it wasn’t a total waste of time.

Will post a pic of the before and after staples removed. He’s a new doctor; was my previous family doctor’s locum. I wished I’d asked him if he’s ever taken staples out before....

Oh and I'm sure that's exactly what you feel like doing right now - sitting around a doctor's waiting room 2 days in a row. I think only delaying it one day is just covering up for something else.

That's terrible! Gee, I hope he's able to "work" you in today...........crazy what some of these docs put us through!!! :tantrum2: Thank heavens that you at least got antibiotics!!!

Staples are gone!!! Didn’t really hurt getting them taken out and after seeing them sitting on the counter, I may’ve slightly exaggerated how big & hefty they were... :angel: Incisions look good and now I’m back in my recliner planning a little snooze :sleep:

I bet that feels great! I forgot to look at mine after they were out but I have wondered if they look much bigger in. They don't seem to leave a big enough mark for what I perceived as railway ties in! :heehee:

@jwadds I had mine out April 15th and the scar is remarkably flatter and less puckered already. I had staples years ago when I had a breast lump removed (so skin is more tender) and the scar is barely visible; certainly not puckered and much thinner than it looked early on. Have no fear, you will be back on the Kits nudest beach in no time!

@jwadds I'm sure the puckering will lessen with time. I don't think any of them look "good" initially. Mine was anterior with glue and the incision is nice and straight (kind of)......but pretty? :nah:Nah!! The trade off for that scar is worth it though. Now you have 2 beautiful new pain free hips!!! :dancy:

Hahaha you gals crack me up! I’m just glad I don’t look like Frankenstein, anything better than than is fine with me!
My beach days have included a wrap for about 15 years so I have a lovely collection to draw upon. Walking on the beach, here I come!! :loveshwr:
