Knee Infection July 16 - had a revision due to infection

Finally good news from the OS. The small open area below my knee is closed!! I still have a superficial open area above my knee and it is healing nicely. Soon closed I am hoping.

The wound care nurse is going to try something new and there is promise it could heal in a couple of weeks.

I see ID doc on the 18th and and my meds should be reduced. I am looking forward to that.
I'm so glad to read that you have some positive results at last! :yes!::yay::SUNsmile:
Thank you for letting us know.

Wow! Great news! I have been on an antibiotic for two years now. I take my antibiotic and probiotic religiously. I don't want to worry about infection again.

That is great news! I know I am excited just to get my PICC out on the 20th and start the oral antibiotics. Love to see someone progressing:)

Things are still healing. Still taking my pills and will forever. Right now ankles and wrists hurt- and RA thing.

Tomorrow I see my rheumatologist and next week infectious disease and the next my surgeon. By then we should be on stage two of this event - maintenance. I hope anyway.

So let all of you know rel soon.

Chris, my docs weaned me from regular visits slowly. I went from monthly OS visits, to every 2 months, 3 months, until last spring he said he'll see me in 2 years. ID doc was seeing me every 3 months, then 6 months, and this fall she said a year, but will still do labs every six months. My maintenance is 100 mg of doxycycline a day.
Just to give you an idea. I'm so glad things are healing for you.

Rheumie put me on ten mg of prednisone twice a day. No good RA meds available because of the risk of infection. I see her again in two months.

My knee opening is doing well but not closed yet.

Walking is still an issue. Small bones in right foot hurt. Still using a walker. Pain is either RA or my plantar facia acting up.

Thinking about stopping pt and letting nature take its course.

I never had plantar fasciitis until my TKR. Now if I don't wear Vionic shoes I'm in pain every day. Could be that.

Plantar fasciitis is miserable...I just got casted for new orthotic inserts yesterday. Needed to be updated with the new knee. I used to keep a frozen water bottle to roll with the foot.

I think mine came about from all the months of sitting with leg up and the foot limp. Had I known I would've kept it flexed. It started with a numb feeling, then pins and needles. Now my heel is swollen and I can never go shoeless.

Sorry to hear the bones in your feet are acting up. If it's RA kicking up hopefully the pred will take care of it.

We got 30 inches of snow Saturday. Last words my rheumie said to me was "Stay inside this weekend ". Now I have cabin fever!!

I love to hunker down, make some soup, bake a loaf of bread, watch a good movie. Enjoy this quiet time and rest that knee. :mcoffee:

Normally that's what I do. Hot chocolate, good books, etc.but it was so beautiful out there. Loved it. Today is back to normal.

More snow today![emoji53]. Doc gave me a story I need to share with all those who have or will have knee infections. Dr. H had a patient much like any of us. She developed an infection and was put on antibiotics for life. She was safe for about 10 years. Then another doctor talked her out of taking it anymore. After all it's been 10 years without infection. Within 4 months she had an infection in her knee. You could tell by his tone he was extremely upset that the other Doctor messed in what he shouldn't have. And he meant what he said about forever.

Hi Chris, Thanks for that info. They haven't put me on them for life yet..will know in March. I do love the snow but you must be getting tired of it:)

My ID told me I'd be on an antibiotic for the rest of my life. She said we'd get to know each other very well. The first mention of this upset me a great deal as I don't like to be on a lot of medication. Then some time went by, I was having labs done every few months and became worried about going off the doxycycline. At a year and half my ID took it down 100mg and it has stayed there for the last 6 months. So far everything is ok, I do take a strong probiotic every day to keep the good bacteria in my gut. But I've never missed a dose of antibiotics.

Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music! . My incision from my July surgery is finally closed. It is not covered for the first time in months. I can get it wet in the shower. It's like a new Liberty..

I have been released by my OS and my VNA nurse. My incision is closed and my cellulitis is healed. I cannot believe how much free time I have now. Tomorrow I will see my retina specialist- finally. I have inflammation from my RA in my eye. And my rheumie is back on my calendar. It's been a long trip. Now all I need is inspiration to practice walking.
