THR Joint Replacement #3 -- Getting Discouraged<

I had ONE log leg after bilateral surgery
One took a good bit longer to follow directions than the other and other than walking...had to be put in its place!:heehee:
Hopefully all will ease soon.
Hope today Will be a good day!

So I am flat unable to slide my surgical leg into or out of bed. Somebody has to manually move it.
Don't fret! You're not even one week out yet so just let it take t's time. Also read this - I know it's about knees but it still applies to hips equally well Don't compare surgeries!!

Relax...b-r-e-a-t-h-e. You're doing great! @Figment826
I recall wondering about each new pain or sensation. In hindsight, by the time I found out what one sensation was, it was gone and something else was throbbing, itching or feeling odd. Such an adventure! I measured my progress by weekends. Easiest..as I usually had visitors and hubby was home making it easier to recall what I did as opposed to any given weekday when I was usually alone and didn't know if it was Tuesday or Thursday, lol!
We're always here, don't forget that. I took comfort in knowing if I sent out a distress signal :sos: someone would soon come to my rescue...and they did. You're not alone here.

Hugs and best wishes for a great week of healing.

Hi All! Update -- post op day 4. Pain under good control with ice machine and 1000 mg Tylenol plus 0.25 mg Xanax three times daily. No narcotics in 48 hours. Just now was able to slide the operative leg onto and off of the bed! Yay!

The previous 2 surgeries I really wanted desperately to be up and dressed every day and sleep in my bed at night -- saw this as a major badge of accomplishment :) This time I have been sleeping at night in my cozy chair, changing my jammies but no rush to full attire and taking a nap in bed in the middle of the day. I'm actually resting pretty well! Slept 4 straight hours last night which I haven't done in 2 years.

Main issue at the moment is constipation -- I'm on Colace and eating 3 prunes daily along with various fresh veggies. Good bowel sounds, lots of flatus, minimal nausea now that Im off narcs. Suggestions from my helpful friends?

@Layla -- You're amazing. That's exactly what's happening. Even with 2 joint replacements under my belt and having the knowledge I do, it's very different on this side of the stethoscope! Every little thing starts to set off an alarm in my head :yikes:. Lol. The support and community here help so much. Plus I have great family, friends, prayer partners etc.

Hi again @Figment826
NanaMama has some constipation recipes on her thread.
Pink heart avatar. Check them out and see what you think...Post # 38
You sound good, relaxed and as though you are resting comfortably. Yay! :ok:

Getting things going was my major badge of accomplishment:heehee:
I was a night crawler/napper for quite a bit. 4 hours is great this early out I think.
Hope you have a peaceful week.:ice:

Checking in here to see how you are doing.
I'm hoping your meds are holding your pain as you become more active.
And also best wishes on the poop fairy deal. I had to resort to miralax, MoM,
suppositories and finally a fleets from the drugstore. I have IBS and could not
tolerate...Big motivation to lose the narcotics.
hoping yours is a resolved matter

I struggled with constipation also. I had the best success with magnesium citrate. In addition to helping the constipation, the magnesium can help reduce muscle spasms, and helps some people sleep better.

@Jackie222 @BeBe @Lucky man
Thanks for checking in with me!
I had a rough night which in retrospect was probably a little humorous but was horrible at 3 AM. Long story short -- I WAY overshot on the constipation remedies -- Colace+prunes+MoM+pear juice. Pear juice really needs a black box warning label.... just sayin'

Long story short -- a long, painful, embarrassing night culminating in a call to the carpet cleaners this morning, Thank God the friend who is staying with me is a saint -- with a wicked sense of humor. And thank God for the smiling pile of poo emoji which I have used liberally today!

Have been off narcotics 4 days -- pain manageable. Interestingly -- I had my knee replaced on the same side last summer and it is stiff and unconformable again. Not sure what to make of that. VERY tired -- which is unlike me. Trying be be a little more active at this point -- Suggestions? What is too little? What is too much?

OH NO! You poor thing....:eeeuw:
Well, I guess you'll be a pro at advising what works, lol!
Hope you're feeling better....and a lot lighter :rotfl:

The knee...hmm...wondering what approach was used because they sometimes use the knee as leverage to dislocate the hip. However....not sure what they do when you already have a prosthetic knee on the op side. I'd love to hear from @Josephine on that one. Wondering if your knee is stiff from inactivity? Really feeling like no help here....sorry!

Oops! Lol on the pear juice warning label!!
I think knee pain can just be part of the process. My knee has been more of an issue than my hip as far as pain goes, and was not used as leverage to dislocate with the approach I had. However the surgeon still pounds a spike down into that femur, just sayin'. There is a lot of inflammation that has to settle down through the whole leg. Seems like everything else has a right to be painful after one of these surgeries! My actual hip joint quiet quiet!
Listen to your body don't overdo and if your tired then sleep, best thing going for healing.

It seems we all get knee pains after hip replacement. The IT band attaches down there and it got a workout along with every other muscle in the area.

Oh no poor you. But at least it’s finally moving! I had a friend who ended up in hospital as her body went into shock through lack of movement.
Hope your body behaves itself now

I'd really like to offer you some structured advice but in order to do that, I also need to ask you some questions. Are you willing for me to do that?
