Thanks so much Jamie I like the idea of a chart to show when the pain is coming etc :)

Helen I have a blog and I wrote in it for a few months and then gave up I'm not really sure why to be honest think I will take it back up again :)

I am writing my meds down for my GP at the moment to try and get on to a correct dosage I am back to see him tomorrow I have been having 5mg MST morning and night and approx 2.5mls of Oramorph every 2-3 hours day and night so I would think he will up the MST and see how I go.

I really hope the hospital can help next week and there is an "answer" to all this but having discussed it at great length with my husband we are both aware that I may just have chronic pain for life and it may be something I have to live with.

Thankyou so much for all your continued support xxx

I kept a good old fashioned diary! Was actually just a cheap notebook from Asda but it served just as well. I did start a blog but I found the diary and my recovery thread on here did just as well. And your entries on here are automatically date stamped!

Good point Jo I will go route out my old thread and see what stages I improved and what stages I went backwards :thumb:Mine is a cheap notebook too it is so handy for scribbling down your thoughts :)

Last night was a tough one as I am back on the strong meds I am suffering with the constipation again so necking lots of grape juice and fibre. The knee has a big pocket of swelling just to the right hand side of my kneecap that is getting bigger every day and a lot of pain is coming from it.

I did my PT yesterday as usual but noticed my clicked every time I did a full cycle on the pedals and it doesn't normally it usually clicks and clunks when i walk and when I try to twist.

Hi Natalie, I am not sure if going alone would be better. Would they just dismiss you? If you feel confident that you can stand your ground and get the information you need then by all means give it a go. Just don't be intimidated by anyone. Sometimes consultants can be a bit "unapproachable".

Well looks like I have to go alone as I had forgotten the kids were off school so need someone at home to look after them.

I will need to be very firm I have just seen my GP who upped my meds and he gave me some advise on how to handle it like you say some consultants are unapproachable and I don't know who I will see yet

Tell you what Natalie - they had better clear that consultation area because all your BoneSmart buddies will be there for you in spirit!

Glad you talked to your GP. Just don't assume any consultant is any better than you. Yes they have their expertise but that does not give them the right to dismiss what you have to say. Write a list of what you want to discuss and carry it with you into the consultation. Then make a commitment to yourself that you won't leave until you get all the answers. Write down the answers - I do! That way the consultant will know you are serious.

Nat, if your old thread is closed and you want to use it, just send me the url and I'll open it for you.

Well looks like I will be going alone as due to a change in the way patient transportation works I am no longer allowed to take an escort with me to my appointment and I have no other way of getting there :sigh:

Yikes - well, we'll all be thinking of you, honey :thumb:

Thanks Jo xx

Just read through my old thread and I just want to say a huge thankyou for how much support you have all given me over the last year I do not know how I would have got through it without the advise and support from the Smarties :)

I realise after reading through that I only saw Mr Porter my surgeon once at my 6 week post op check and I have never seen him since always his registrars!I think after this appointment next week if there is no actual issues with my replacement and it is the SC I will return to the Royal Orthopaedic in Birmingham to see the SC specialists.

Hope you guys don't mind but I am just going to write down my current symptoms as a reference so I know I have this to look back on :thumb:

Still have significant swelling sounds weird but I measured my knee over the last year and it was 22 inches round at Week 1 post op and 16 inches 9 months post op and it is now 18 inches at nearly a year post op.

My leg gives way when walking and also does this weird thing where it extends out and I feel like I'm going to fall it is very odd it and very difficult to describe.....

The pain is constant across the front of the kneecap and down my shin,as well as throbbing pain around the side and at the back when I have walked for 10 minutes or stood on it for 10 minutes.

My hip and back ache a lot and since my TKR I am walking differently so much so I have noticed the soles on my shoes are wearing more on the outer edge.

Sharp electric shock type pains in my ankle.

Dull ache in my thigh and ankle and toes when sitting walking and laying down.

Toes going numb like pins and needles.

ROM is approx 90 degrees.

Natalie,

This is good to have a list of your specific issues. I was also thinking you should make a list of the medicines you are taking and have taken and the ones you can't tolerate. Is there any way for you to send in your information ahead of time for them to review before you get there?

I don't think so Rebecca I could hand it in as soon as I arrive at the appointment though as I always wait a good 2 hours to see the doctor :thumb:

Had a terrible night I was put up to 10mg MST on Tuesday as I was taking so much Oramorph in between he felt I would benefit going from 5mg to 10mg it hasn't really kicked in yet as I was in so much pain last night every time I moved into a position my knee felt like it locked stiff and the pain woke me and it took me a few seconds to straighten it out or bend it,I ended up sleeping with hanging out of the bed as having it hanging was the most comfy way!

Well I'm having a bed day!
A day where I can barely move due to pain swelling and stiffness!
The kids are at school and hubby's at work so noone to look after and worry about but me x

Sounds like a good plan Natalie. A bit of TLC for you! So sorry you are having this pain. Sure hope you get some information in your appointment next week!

Oh bless you, Natalie. Wish you were nearer - I'd come and make a fuss of you!

Just been to the supermarket for the first time in a few months to do a weekly shop and I got halfway round with my shopping and I could no longer push the trolley,I had my stick in my trolley and was pushing it slowly but once it got heavier I couldn't manage anymore so my dad had to come help me finish it now I know why I do it online!!My dad said he watched me walk around and he said my leg bends in towards my other leg and I have noticed my shoes are worn down more on the inner of them too?Very odd!

Sounds like you are trying to compensate in some way for all the pain Natalie. Poor you! So sorry you are going through this. Not fair! :console:
