I think its neurontin - generic name starts w/ a G

Is it Gabepentin?
I have tried Amytryptiline and Nortryptiline and neither helped with any of my pain.
Rebecca that's really interesting that it could be a SC piece pressing on a nerve I'm getting it several times a day now for about 30 seconds at a time it's very odd!
Jaycey I'm taking Oramorph for breakthrough pain had to take quite a lot today and struggled to get through my daily PT which is really annoying!

So I have my appointment through for the 22nd July and guess what it isn't even with my surgeon it is just with the Arthroplasty Team which I presume means whoever is in clinic that day
:(

Ring your consultant's secretary and ask what it means. If it is, ask her can't you be seen by the consultant as your case isn't at all straightforward.

I did Jo and she said Mr Porter isn't available for an extended period due to leave and other commitments, she said I will be fine with the arthroplasty team they deal with knee replacement problems.

So if I want to be seen this is my only option?

[Bonesmart.org] It's been a long time.....
would seem so

Hang in there Natalie! Be firm and direct in your meeting. You need answers - don't be put off by any member of staff who s"too busy" to listen. Ask to see someone else if you feel like you are not being heard!

:thumb: Perfect Natalie! That should be some very valuable information. Fingers crossed for you!

Natalie,

I guess the first thing to find out is if there are any problems with the implant. Is everything positioned correctly? Is anything loose? Are there adhesions that are causing problems?

Then they need to tell you what is going on with the synovial chondromatosis. Are there pieces in there that are impeding movement, pressing on nerves, etc.? Is the SC causing additional inflammation in the joint? They may have to do more than an x-ray to get all the information they need.

Then they need to tell you what they are going to do about it. Can they remove the SC pieces? What kind of pain management can they provide? You may need to see more than one doctor. You need someone who is an expert in knee replacement and someone who is an expert (or at least knows about) SC. You are probably going to have to push to get the answers you need.

Rebecca you are a star :) You have helped me so much through this journey xxxx

I still have significant swelling all over my knee and I'm not sure wether it is from the TKR or the SC I will need to see if the doc knows.
What other scans could they do bar xrays do you think?

I am very ready to push now enough is enough....

Nat:
I wish you the very best of luck. The pain diary is wonderful.
Become the "squeaky wheel"...It gets the oil.
Keep us updated
Sandy

Natalie,

I would think they could do a CAT scan. I'm not sure about an MRI. Ultrasound might be a possibility.

I have tended to get really emotional at my appointments, and it is really embarrassing. But it is so upsetting when you are in pain and have been in pain for years and years, and no one seems to take it seriously! Is there any way your husband (or someone else) could go with you? I wish the world was different, but I have found that my husband is listened to better than I am, even when it has to do with me.

I'm the same Rebecca even more so in the last year  He is trying to get the time off work to come with me but I might have to go alone which is ok but like you say the doc often listens to hubby more in fact a lot of the time the conversation is directed to him while I sit on the bed invisible!

That's just shocking Natalie! Please don't let them treat you like that. You are the patient and respect is absolutely called for! I wish I lived near you - I'd escort you and have a few words! :hissyfit:

Hi, Natalie. I'm just catching up with your thread and am so sorry to hear you are still having problems. It is a good thing you had a rest from all the doctors though. You sound strong, determined and ready to deal with these folks again.

I like your idea of keeping a journal. Maybe you can create some sort of chart that shows your daily pain levels too as a "quick picture" to get conversation started. I agree with Jaycey....you are going to need to keep that assertiveness going to be sure that your problems are promptly and properly addressed.

Please let us know how things go. I'm praying for you.

I was going to make a suggestion. You can go to a blog site if it's better/easier for you to type and make a journal from there. I dated mine. Didn't type everyday, but made a point to on anniversary days. Kept it private. But it was really amazing, and still is, to go back and read the dates and the way I felt etc that I wouldn't recall if I had not typed them up.

Typing is easier to me than pen and paper, I guess because I have messy handwriting, and I can type fairly quickly. It is also a good reference point for you to be able to bring up dates etc when approaching the Drs etc.

Anyway, wishing you the best of luck also, and sorry things aren't going well for you right now.

Helen
