TKR IT band syndrome

What do you need to do to be able going downstairs and for the limping to go away? Will increasing flexion help the limping go away?
Quite possibly but don't force it.

The average ROMs required for ADLs are thus
Ascending Stairs 83-105 degrees
Descending Stairs 86-107 degrees (though I'd say more!)
Walking 60
Running 103
Tying Shoes 106 degrees
Sitting 93 degrees
Lifting object from floor 71-117 degrees

I had a left total knee replacement in January. So I’m at 6 months. I am having pain from hip all the way to a couple inches below my knee. I’ve had this once before and my OS have me a cortisone shot but he won’t now because of the opportunity of infection. I see him Wednesday and hoping he’ll give me oral steroids.
I’m going to Italy for two weeks in September.
Does anybody else have this?

Hi @Iloveemma
You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread.
For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here, in this thread.
Don't worry that we won't see your question because, between us, the staff read all new posts every day.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.
How to tag another member; how to answer when someone tags you

If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.

Here are the instructions on finding your thread, How can I find my threads and posts? . Many members bookmark their thread, so they can find it when they log on.

Yes, I had it after my first knee. In fact, it also spread to my hamstrings. But I got chiropractic treatment for the ITB and did stretched for the hamstrings which sorted them out. Hamstring stretches

I had a RKR done in April 2017. Then I had the left knee replacement. I’m 8 months postop. I’m 8 months postop. Extension and flexion are good. I went to Italy a month ago for two weeks. I couldn’t keep up with my nephew or anyone else. I struggled with going up and down stairs. My Orthro doc told it takes 6 months to a year to heal. I think the left leg is strong. So now it appears that the right knee is not strong. I’m still limping despite 2 months of PT. I think I need to go to PT to straighten this all out. I’m not doing well about going to the gym to walk. As I’m not sure, what the problem is, any thoughts, as to loss of strength in the right quads.
Any suggestions or help is much appreciated. I’m at my wits end with all of this. I’m on Social Security disability.

PT should be able to help you with your gait, to identify what you're doing wrong, if anything, and to show you how to walk correctly.

And you say your right quad is weak with RTKR April 2017, left quad stronger LTKR 8 months ago.

As to walking at the gym -- why not just open your house door and walk? No need for gym! Walk a little bit more every day, making sure to listen to what your PT says about gait.

@Iloveemma you will notice that I have merged your two threads together as we prefer that members in recovery only have one thread. Please do not start any more recovery threads.

This is for three reasons:
1. if you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts others have left you in the old threads
2. it often ends up that information is unnecessarily repeated
3. it's best if we can keep all your recovery story in one place so it's easily accessed if we need to advise you.

Please keep all your questions and updates on this thread. If you would like a new thread title just give a shout.

While on my Italy trip, in 12 days I walked 40 miles but I had to rest frequently. I think I need to increase my endurance. I belong to the Y and they have personal trainers. Of course you have to pay $25/session to get a training plan.
I can also go to PT about my gait.

40 miles in 12 days is a huge amount of walking, especially if it’s a lot more than you’re used to. Give yourself a chance to recover from the Over Did It Club.

You don’t need PT or a gym to walk, you can walk anywhere. Outside, or the mall, or Target, or any place. I’m my area, Target is my personal favorite.

Well I had a left knee replacement in 1/2019. I have this pain on the inside of my left knee since the surgery. From looking at the anatomy, it could be the ligament. Any ideas ot
PT I can do at home. It is interfering with going up and down stairs
