TKR Indieknee trying to recover

Sorry josephine but I’m not sure what you mean - I’ll send another photograph in the morning more sideways on or I could try lying on my tummy.

I need a photo similar to this

But more sidewards on would be good too!

THAT's better! Your flexion is 70 degrees. But your knee is also grossly swollen so it's hardly surprising. Don't worry about it, you're only 8 weeks out yet. Plenty of time to get improvement. Just concentrate on icing, elevating and managing your pain.

@Josephine
Out of interest, I searched this website about my new knee and found the report you posted about the Depuy Attune knee.
I have one of those - should I be worried?

I have one, too, and SusieShoes has 2. We are doing OK. I asked my OS about it and he said he didn't use their cement. He preferred another brand, so I should be fine. You can always ask your OS.

:) It was a lovely morning so I decided to take my knee for a walk by the river.
We drove down to the quay and I had a short hobble by the river. Wonderful, I haven’t been there in weeks, we sat on a bench (which was just the right height so no struggling to sit or stand) watched the ducks and had an ice cream - a micro holiday. Just a small thing but excellent therapy, both physical and psychological.
If my knee doesn’t complain too much tonight and tomorrow, I’ll try something similar each day.

Awesome! Being outside in pretty places does wonders for us.

We had a huge waterfall not far from where we used to live and that was my “go to” place when I needed a boost. I even saw it frozen one winter! Unfortunately I moved 400 miles away from it 3 years ago, but I do have pictures.

I am lucky I live right next to a bike/walking track that follows alongside a creek. it is my walking/recovery place. At this time of year I love that the wattles and other flowers are starting to blossom. In a few more weeks there will be little ducklings to watch. I calculate my recovery progress by how far along the track i can walk - to the first seat (200m), to the bridge (300m), to the circle of rocks (400m) ......... Yesterday I did 1.2km - too much - but it was nice at the time. Getting outside is good mental recovery!

Jacimarble and jockette - what lovely places, nature certainly helps with recovery.
But I think a spot of people watching is also strangely uplifting. My next jaunt out will involve sipping good coffee looking out the window of a coffee shop, discussing possible back stories for the people passing by.

By the way, I was expecting my knee to give me pain and problems last night and this morning after my outing yesterday, but it was no worse than usual :)

It's so affirming when your knee stops being a troublemaker and becomes more predictable... predictably good, predictably capable, predictably your reliable partner in living life. :happydance:

I don’t quite trust my knee yet but there is some improvement. I don’t want anything to spoil it so I’m phoning pt to let them know I won’t be going. I’ll be going for an enjoyable mini walk and a breath of fresh air

micro-holiday indeed. Sounds great!

Getting outside is such a mood uplifter!

Just noticed you asked about the DePuy Attune knee. I do indeed have two of those and I spoke to my surgeon at length about the cause of concern. The problems were in knees implanted in 2015. By the time of my surgery (and yours) the cause of the problem (a tibial stem that didn’t “take” with cement) had been redesigned (in 2016) so the newer Attune knees are no longer subject to the same issues.

Also, even with the “problem” tibial stems, only a few patients percentagewise ever developed the problem. But yeah... I checked it out with my surgeon to be sure!

Had to work yesterday so no walk - too tired - even though I wasn’t doing anything physical, except move a mouse .
We went for a walk in the rain today, it was that fine stuff that you can’t feel but soaks you through. Loved it.
I still use one crutch mainly because my knee hurts and I’m a bit of a wobbly person without it, but these walks are real progress for me.

Just getting ready for work and getting there, is work! You can add all that time to your actual paid time.

Sistersinhim - I don’t envy you - I’m really fortunate that I work from home.

I will be having a rest today. Last night I woke up at about 3am with a very painful knee. I thought perhaps I’d done too much walking, then I realised that I had forgotten to take my pain killer. Obviiously I still need them because things settled down after a pill and some ice.

Woke up this morning with what Josephine would describe as a “huge” swollen knee. There doesn’t seem to be any reason for it, except the timing of my pain meds has got a bit muddled, I don’t know whether that would have any affect.
It’s now afternoon here and the swelling has gone down a lot. I hope this swelling thing is only temporary glitch.

You might be prepared for the fact that sometimes swelling comes and goes. My left leg (from knee to ankle) was consistently swollen for 8/9? months after surgery. It still swells if I've been busy and most nights, there is a huge lump right below my knee. It goes away after I've been in bed for about an hour. My right leg didn't swell nearly as much although there is a good size lump above my knee which doesn't seem incline to go away. I was trying on some knit pants last night and it looks like I have two knees with a smile between them on that leg. *sigh* Now...if I can only convince myself no one will notice it when it gets cooler.....
