@IMs I just wanted to welcome you to the other side from one New Englander to another :) I am not on as much but like to drop in every now and then. I'm glad your surgery went well and now it's rehab time. I also had the posterior, you can read my thread just click on link on bottom of this message. Today is 4 months for me. I can tell you that I have a new life and so blessed :). I had a great recovery and wish you the same. Where did you have your surgery done? I had at Milford Regional and couldnt of be happier especially with my surgeon ..She was fab. As you know you certainly in the right place for the best advice and for making friendships (Bonesmart). I truly am thankful for all the support I received here and friendships made :). Best of luck to you, I will follow your recovery. Try to stay positive, it helps so much. Keeping great thoughts...Sue

@ IMs, ask for suppositories or an enema. It will help get things moving and you'll start feeling better immediately. Water water water! Welcome to the other side. Every day gets better. Praying for your healing and recovery!

Have you tried stool softener? They gave me colace 100mg three times a day

Hello EVERYONE, thanks so very much for your priceless suggestions and advice. I ha e tried/am trying all 'avenues' except enema (thus far). Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. Warmest regards, prayers, all the best and God bless ALL of you ALWAYS!

Best to stick with the stool softeners, plenty of water and natural vegetable fibre, you might like to read this article constipation-and-stool-softeners

Prunes are wonderful - prayers coming your way for relief soon :)

Phillips milk of magnesia will do the trick every time needed. Takes an hour or two....

@IMs, as you have found out, there is NO privacy here on Bonesmart, LOL! :giggle: No subject is off-limits when it comes to helping each other recover. It is awful when you're in a hospital setting with strangers and you have to make requests regarding your most private functions ... but my sister is a nurse, and believe me, she has seen it all, heard it all, and nothing bothers her. Suppositories, enemas, helping a patient to the bathroom a dozen times a day, cleaning up bedpans, or waiting discreetly outside the bathroom while someone needs a little more time to focus on the task are just part of her day. So take a humorous approach to it and don't be afraid to ask for help!

I hope your pain is better controlled now that you are a few days along. Have they had you up and walking yet? I found it so amazing to be walking on that new hip! Despite the swelling, the "log leg" feeling, and the general weakness, it was still amazing and wonderful!!

@IMs, Know just how you feel! No one warned me about the effect pain meds have on one's gastro-intestinal system, so I found 2 weeks after my surgery that constipation was worse than post op surgery pain. But once things get moving, the relief is amazing :heehee:! Hope things have improved for you.

Hello ALL, with the unbounded grace of the Almighty AND with your best wishes and prayers, (BORDERING GROSS-LAND NOW! >>> !!a suppository has worked wonders)! What a blessing and relief!) Indescribable how it feels now! Thanks, Lord Jesus, and thanks, ALL of you!

I am relaxing in bed at the rehab facility...expecting more PT and OT tomorrow. ..drained out for any today: if at all there is any today. The nurse here says tgat the incision *wound* looks good enough NOT to apply a dressing to it. I hope and pray she is right! (Dressing-less it is since last night...surgery was a week back...Monday)
Am doing the ankle pumps...quads...butt clenches...wearing TEDS in daytime. ..took off last night...no swelling on foreleg, feet or ankles...thighs had swkllen, probably because of the misplaced TEDS...looking forward to more therapy and taking more steps

Excellent @IMs - that first BM sure is a blessing. Best wishes to you for your time in rehab :)

Sounds like things are beginning to improve, @IMs! Once you get past the next week, a lot of the soreness and swelling at the incision site will begin to improve as well, and your PT will be so much easier & more effective. Keep eating those prunes for a while yet, though! And keep icing your leg, especially after PT. Glad to hear such a good report, and God bless you.

All, thanks a billion for ALL your prayers and best wishes. ..

Warmest regards, prayers, all the best and God bless ALL of you ALWAYS!

@IMs Nice to see you over on this side. I read your pre-op thread as you were heading in and felt so bad for your apprehension and fear of the surgery. I weigh about 140 pounds and had to have to have two nurses help me get in and out of bed while I was in hospital. I think they do it with two for our safety and theirs and it's not always about patient weight. If you have ongoing BM issues: I bought some black licorice at the health food store and eat two pieces of that a day. (I am on pain killer with codeine as I can't take Nsaids) You can also choose from a few different teas there than can help. It seems different people 'respond' to different tactics :)

I hope your recovery is now on a smooth path ~ hang in there!

@IMs so glad you are feeling better. Don't worry about the lack of a dressing on your incision. That's actually good news - it means staff are happy with the healing. Easy does it for now. Rest, rest and more rest prescribed!

Thanks, @Carriemay60 and @Jaycey! Have started PT & OT slowly and steadily. Please keep in prayer that everything should go smoothly, please. I shall add black liquorice to prunes, senna, prune juice, colace and a few other stronger ones.

Once again, many many thanks for taking the time and initiative to read my thread and opine! May God richly bless A L L of you ALWAYS! IMs

12 days after surgery...bruise near incision ...xray done this morning...hemoglobin low...taking 3 mg of Coumadin...blood tested again for certain up/low levels..can not get get out of/into bed without assistance. ..not much pain in hip though right thigh is swollen much more than the left...can I take 1000/2000 mg Vit C, B complex, Vit D3 and calcium, please? Tired...doing PT and OT at rehab gym every day...more later. ..all the best and God bless ALL of you ALWAYS!

can I take 1000/2000 mg Vit C, B complex, Vit D3 and calcium, please?
You would need to get this approved by your surgeon or family doctor @IMs .
Tired...doing PT and OT at rehab gym every day.
Sounds like you may be over doing the activity. Can you scale back and rest a bit more? Have you asked for ice to help relieve that swelling?

Hi @IMs - I also had bruising near incision and also black/blue on my shin of the operated leg, so I think that is normal...I am about 3.5 weeks since surgery and the bruise near incision is almost gone, still slightly black/blue. The bruising on my shin is gone. I don't know much about coumadin...since I am taking aspirin 2x a day still. It's great that you're doing PT and OT at a gym...it must be tiring!! are you elevating and icing, you should be!!! Well, feel better!!
