THR I'm just a pup at 3 wks post op. Am I normal?!

Best wishes with your Friday appointment! Also prepare yourself for the doctor having no answers for you on that day. Imaging or other testing may need to be done before you get an accurate diagnosis. You may even need a second opinion. I find that all I have done for the past year is wait...wait for doctors, for appointments, for test results, for surgery dates, for everything. And I am still waiting. Hope you get answers and solutions fast!

So I went back to the surgeon and was freaking out all morning before my appt! :yikes: My main concern was that there was something wrong with the prosthetic and they would need to go back in. He said X-Rays looked PERFECT! What a really' relief! :happydance:As I suspected iliopsoas tendonitis is the issue and he said that my muscles were " so screwed up before" that now they are working "correctly" they are very angry at me and we need to "force them to be happy" haha. Yeah...I grew up with my hip and muscles that they never developed correctly so 28 years of working they way they aren't supposed to will do that to ya! He also mentioned that this was a major surgery I had and I am only 6 months out and being young and as active as I am this is all normal :swim: and to realize that ...it's still healing and will be for awhile. I forget the fact that I had a hip replacement and they took a really' BONE SAW to my leg and I'm part bionic. We hippies truly are pretty amazing aren't we? So all in all I was SO RELIEVED and he prescribed some more naproxen and just to stretch a couple times EVERYDAY! SO I guess I need to practice what I preach more. Maybe when I have my patients do their stretches I'll lay beside them and do mine haha. :heehee:. Just hearing that the prosthetic is okay took away some of the pain i think! haha. Thank you all for your love and support and advice. I'm so glad I found this. :thankyou:

That's happy news about the implants being fine! Yes, 28 years of using muscles the wrong way can cause some havoc when they are finally expected to behave normally. Hope you have success with the stretching and that the iliopsoas goes away. Take care, Keri!

Great update @HIPpieGal7 ! Do those gentle stretches and take your meds if needed. Sounds like you just need a bit of time and lots of patience. You'll get there!

Hope all is well and everyone had a good holiday. Hip update...IT'S GREAT! I was so frustrated before, but I've been patient and things have calmed down as far as my hip goes. Barely ANY pain! Some tinges of discomfort and i still swell up after a lot of activity but its not hindering my mobility at all! :running:Getting into a car is a breeze! So amazing. I'm coming up on my year appointment with the Ortho on Feb 13th and I'll officially be a year out on Feb 25! Still no luck on the baby front tho  but...we're still trying! Hope every one is doing well!

Glad to hear that things are going well for you now! It's good to hear another success story from someone my age. My own iliopsoas is fairly tight right now at about 4.5 weeks post-surgery, so it's also reassuring to know that the path to full function can be long. When did you start doing stretches? I have struggled with anterior pelvic tilt for some years but feel like doing the stretches in the article someone linked earlier would be difficult, if not detrimental, at my point in recovery. Best wishes to you!

Kaliella, I didn't start stretching until 6-7 months after i had my follow up with my ortho.

Good to know! I had my post-op this Tuesday and asked about it. The doctor just said to listen to your body and don't force movement if it doesn't want to do it as my ROM increases. I haven't tried any stretches and will probably give it until at least 12 weeks to let the hip capsule heal and swelling continue to go down before thinking about it.

I figured I'd give an update and since it's my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the surgery, what better day to do it! [emoji847][emoji322]. One year. I remember how stressed, scared and ticked off I was leading up to the surgery but the day of, I was cool as a cucumber. . Which is weird, cuz you all know my love of hospitals and doctors [emoji36]. It was definitely life changing. There were some frustrating points throughout the year and much to my dismay, I was not "healed" once my 3 month recovery and out of work time was done ‍♀️. I knew better but chose to ignore it. Shocking [emoji849] Haha. I had developed tendinitis that set me back a bit and has since mostly resolved and popped up in a new area, but I'm dealing with it. I still swell up at times and mornings can be rough but...normal. Since I hadn't walked "correctly" in 28 years, replacing the hip made my gait "normal" which in turn, ticked off every other joint and muscle in my body. So the past year has not only been healing the hip, it's been realigning EVERYTHING which was/is uncomfortable and was expected. But, IT WAS SO WORTH IT! I now walk without pain, something I never knew what was like! I was just used to hurting! I now can work a full day walking the cruddy halls WITHOUT PAIN in my hip (plenty of pain in the butt but none in the hip [emoji6]), get into a car without using my hands to lift my leg into it, and so many little (and big) things that I didn't realize I had struggled with before! One year follow -up with my Ortho on Wednesday! Cheers [emoji482]to many more happy hip years! [emoji7][emoji1323]‍♀️[emoji374]

Lovely update @HIPpieGal7 - it does seem to take a while for everything to realign and work smoothly (I'm finding that) But we only have to reflect on just how bad things were to accept that the effort put into concentrating on putting the effort into helping our body remember how it is supposed to work is definatley worth it. You talking about lifting your leg into the car using your hands is SO familiar! I no longer hang things on door handles because whereas the effort of bending was just too painful before, I do it without thinking.
Little things like that always make me smile! Good luck to you and continued good health

Been awhile since I've been on here! I started a new job and it's at the hospital where I had my hip replacement! And as of right now I am actually working on the exact same floor that I was on for post op. So I spend a lot of time in my old room with other joint replacements, kinda funny. My hip joint itself feels great! But I have been experiencing some mid thigh pain. Of course I panic whenever I feel something like this. I'm about 1.5 years out. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't experience it when walking, just when I have been standing and then take the weight off that side. Hmmmm. I also have ankle pain on the same side from everything going to alignment. Trying to be good about doing my ankle stretches. Haha. So I'm not super concerned about the ankle, more about the mid thigh pain.

Working in the room you stayed in at the hospital must bring back some memories, that is for sure. Hope the thigh pain is just muscular.
