TKR I think I have pes anserine bursitis. Is it OK to do modified zumba?

The first MRI showed a tear in the muscle after a fall 4 weeks after the TKR , l had to go back to surgery for fixing .
I wonder how many of us have something like this that goes undiagnosed, because the X-ray is fine, so they don’t look any further. Other than a simple blood test, neither of my 2 second opinions looked past my wonderful X-ray.

We know our bodies and we know when something isn't right. The best thing to do is to find a doctor that will listen to your symptoms.

Hi. It’s me back after a long break. Please let us know how you get on, I do hope that you get somewhere. I have yet to arrange a third opinion, as that will require going abroad for me.

@sistersinhim @Ghostpipe

2nd opinion had nothing new to say: X-rays show implants look fine, “knee tightness” means something different to everyone” so he can’t really answer my questions, Voltaren (doing that. 6x a day), swimming without using my legs (doing that), try cycling 5 min to see how it feels and gradually increase (trying that already), eat more berries/turmeric for any inflammation, TENS unit is ok to use (doing that), eating more plant based foods (vegetarian already), knee bracing (doing that), Ibuprofen (doing that).

Bottom line he said 15-20% of people just need more time. See him in 3 months if still having problems. I’ve just cancelled a trip to some Natl Parks because the hiking I like to do will just make everything worse.

I have no options other than to wait it out. I will try to move forward with a positive attitude and just keep trying to better.

Thanks to everyone for their support!

And some of us in that category never get an answer. I finally gave up on mine and just got on with my life. Am I happy with my replacement? No, but I’m managing. I wish I’d never had my knee done. I was better off before, with the arthritis. Sad but true.

@Jockette does that mean you are just bracing your knees and dealing with any swelling or pain after an activity?

No, I don’t need to use a brace, and I don’t have noticeable swelling, and not any actual pain. Just a lot of discomfort. My knee often feels out of joint. I try to avoid things that upset it.

I‘m sad to see the cold weather coming, my knee feels it’s worst when I’m wearing pants. (the second I put them on) It must be a nerve issue. No one (3 different surgeons) knows what to do about it.

Yes, I could continue to get opinions, or maybe try a surgery, if anyone offered me one, which hasn’t happened yet, but, I’m out of trust. The first surgery messed up my knee and I don’t want to go down a road where that might continue. 3 different surgeons have no answers for any of my issues. At the moment I can live with what I have.

@ihavetwins, just give your knee more time. I'm sure that tightness will get better as time goes on.

I'm sorry your second opinion didn't find anything concrete with your knee. Is he a revisionist?

Hi ihavetwins. I have been reading your story and can totally sympathize with you i had a right medial PKR back in April 2021. And my journey has not been easy i still struggle with pain and internal swelling. I now wear a TENS machine most days which helps and i too swim and try to stay active. If i overdo it my knee lets me know big time.
I am currently sat on my sofa with my knee in ice preparing for another tough day at work.
I to think it may be scar tissue that is causing me pain my knee crunch`s and grinds more now than ever which i believe is scar tissue.
I am currently waiting for a S.P.E.C.T scan which hopefully may identify a problem.
This forum is a lifeline i hope you get the answers you deserve and a resolution to you issues you are not alone n your struggles.

Your second opinion sounds about as constructive as mine! I too am already doing most that yours recommended, bar the berries (!) which are impossible to get where I live, and the tens. I stopped the anti inflammatory meds to see what happened, nothing happened, so I don’t bother now.
I admire folks like Jockette, who have learned to accept their situation. It’s depressing to think of a lifetime of pain and minor disability ahead due to an elective surgery.
The trust issue is a big one. I am frightened to see a revision specialist, in case they suggest something that could leave an even worse mess. We trusted our original surgeons, and look what happened.

I know it's a strange question but my "great" left knee has developed a sharp pain on the inside of my knee, where I think the tendons attach.

I've been doing modified, less knee related zumba. I do use my legs but not as intense as regular zumba requires.

Could this have caused the problem?

Thanks for any help related to the bursitis. I'm already in PT for my left knee.

I don’t know anything about Zumba, so hopefully someone who does will respond.

By the way, I merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread, as we prefer that members in recovery have only one thread.

This benefits you because all your information is in one place, easy to find, and maintains a nice journal for you.

This also benefits our staff, as your information is all in one place, and we often go back through your thread for previous details, so we know what you‘ve been through which helps us advise you better.

So, please keep all your posts in this thread. If you’d like a new title, let us know what you want, and we’ll change it for you.

How can I find my threads and posts?

Best wishes on your continuing recovery!

Thank you for the speedy reply. This website/forum has amazing information and I’m hoping to find/give support to other folks.
I hope to be moving at 93, even if it's only to the wash room, lol.
Good luck with recovery.

Hello...Happy Saturday!
Since most reading here may not know what Pes anserie bursitis is, including myself, here is a definition
from online -

Pes anserine bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa located between the shinbone (tibia) and
the three tendons consisting of the Sartorious, Gracillis, and the Semitendoniosus attachments at the inside and a little below the knee.

It occurs when the bursa becomes irritated and produces too much fluid, which causes it to swell and put pressure on the adjacent parts of the knee.
What is the treatment for pes anserine bursitis?

Treatment of pes anserine bursitis includes anti-inflammatory measures, activity modification, stretching, strengthening, and correction of biomechanical deficits with physical therapy. Early on in treatment symptoms may be eased by using: ice, ultrasound, e-stim, and NSAIDS.

Again, this is from a quick online search. Not a recommendation for treatment, although the activity modification makes sense. I'd advise you stop Zumba until you speak with your surgeon or a member of his care team for advice and follow their direction rather than self diagnosing and possibly causing yourself more harm such as chronic pain.
Best wishes as you seek a medical diagnosis and hopefully find speedy relief.

Here’s another article, this one from the Bonesmart library:

I had pes anserine bursitis about a year after my tkr. My OS sent me to PT for ultrasound treatments only, no exercises. It worked wonderfully! You might ask for an ultrasound treatment for yours. It's worth it.
