Hi everyone! Very useful information.
I saw the same Consultant this week,he is older, white haired and as grumpy as ever. Must be in mid 70s by now but still as thin and fit as ever. However this time round it was a “kind grumpiness”.. I told him I had dropped from 117kg to 109 kg and he remembered he had last operated at 106kg. He tweaked and pulled and at one point the pain had me almost leaping off the table.

Conclusion. I am now on the waiting list for an NHS op. I have asked to be contacted should a cancellation come up. He admired his handiwork from the previous op and said he could hardly see the scar. And tbh he was rightly smug about that! He is still dead against surgical stockings and hydrotherapy. Sadly he has given up his private practise so we agreed that I would continue to lose weight but if the pain suddenly got worse to go private with someone else . I got the impression he was pleased I had gone back to him! He was also impressed I was still working. (!!!) He thinks physios are a waste of time and walking and dieting is the answer. So, here we go again. I wonder if the Hip world is ready for another “Surrey Girl” blog?!

Of course! We're ready for you, SG. Welcome back! Congrats on the weight loss. It sounds like you're ready to get rid of the pain and get on with life. I hope the wait isn't too long.
In the meantime, wishing you lots of comfort.:friends:

@SurreyGirl I am hearing so many horror stories about wait lists! Obviously ring fenced orthopaedic areas fell by the wayside during lockdown. Fingers crossed you can get scheduled soon! :fingersx:

Thanks everyone! I hope you don’t mind me mentioning this here but I have been doing the Slimpod NLP Programne for the last two months and it has really helped my attitude and mindset. I’ve been doing dry Feb and will probably continue into March. My goal is to get to the same weight as I was last time I was operated on by June 23. I realise the waiting list may be long so will go private if the pain gets worse. At the moment, and 8kg down from November the knee pain has almost gone and the hip pain controllable with painkillers and exercise.
It’s lovely being one dress size down too.

I’m planning on returning to diving soon with our without the hip op..

Wishing everyone luck on their own individual paths xx

I have an appointment on Monday for hydrotherapy and am now wondering what the pros and cons are.
Hydrotherapy is great exercise. However it is very easy to over do. You are weightless and can move around freely. Unfortunately you don't realise you have pushed too hard until later.

Tbh my consultant is very old school and a stickler re post op infection. He had strict rules about not allowing the scar to get wet and even restricted my swimming for a while but it all came good. Swimming is my go to exercise and relaxation!

Back again!

To my amazement I have a pre-op appt which means that the op may be rather sooner than expected…. Apparently my Consultant has a lot of elderly patients on the list whom, when called, are not for enough for various reasons GDPR the op
So I got moved up the list: im
Within 1kg of my op weight from five years ago and my hip is not as bad as when the last one was operated on. But….. I’m scared …. I do remember the first 5 days in hospital which didn’t go well, my HR dept and having to fight re my return to work etc.

But this time I will insist on appropriate pain relief and fight my corner . I have icepacks st the ready and the same bed on the ground floor of my house where I recovered last time. And I won’t overdo the physio either!

Wherever you'll be, we'll keep you company!

We had our hips replaced within a week of each other in 2018 and I remember visiting with you here on the forum a few times. I pop back on occasionally and just saw your news about your upcoming surgery. Here's hoping your surgery is scheduled soon so you can get to the "other side" and recovery. :)

@SurreyGirl Oh boy! here you go again and it's about time, right?

the sooner you can have the surgery, the sooner you can get the recovery game going and yes, you know what to do for yourself this time!! Here's a toast to the first 5 days going smoothly and painlessly.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your kind comments.

Pre op went well. The nurse congratulated me on my weightloss. I’m now down to 106kg. Trying to excercise but hip stiffening up now so not good. To my amazement my blood pressure was slightly low! What? I’ve had high BP for years. Time to review my meds.

Sadly the Nurse told me that, despite the pre op, there was no guarantee that I would have it within 18 weeks. I thought, oh well, it will give me time to lose some more weight!

And yes, I called the Hotel for Hippies and discussed booking in. Strangely enough they remembered me! The “Galloping Gourmet Gigolo” who ran the restaurant side has sadly left but most of the rest of the staff are still there….

Watch this space ;-)

I hope you get to take joy in the summer months despite not knowing the specific date yet. The feeling of not knowing / everything being on pause can be overwhelming, but things seem to be going in the right direction. I hope you will find out soon :)

It has nis been 10 days so I think a polite “managing expectations” to the Consultants PA is in order. If they have no idea when the op might be I will consider options. If they say within 3-4 months then I will wait… hip not too bad but catching now and painful if I accidentally turn without thinking . Also stiffens up when walking for more than 10-15 mins so hope I can get it sorted… thanks everyone for your lovely posts xx
