Your idea of keeping your cell phone tucked with you is a good one. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I keep having set backs nausea , weak ..... So tonight I say finally my spunk is coming back . My concern is they took the brace today sept 5 was surgery. Today took out staples think there were 33 . They said all is good . Okay then why does my leg feel like a blimp . Is any if this normal ? Thanks

I can not think that I will be the person that says I'm glad I did this and wish would have done it sooner. No! I'm still angry at the nurses that didt answer my bell for pain meds for over an hour forty minutes. The first agency they sent for home care stunk . I have complained and will continue to do so .

Pjmc.......I have merged your latest thread into your recovery thread. Please keep your updates, questions and concerns in this thread. Otherwise we cannot see the history of your recovery and that makes it much more difficult to respond to you. If you'd like a different thread title, just post what you want here and we'll get it changed for you.

I'm sorry that you had a bad time in the hospital and with the home care folks. That happens and it's certainly okay to make a complaint to both organizations. But do try not to hold the anger inside yourself. It only makes you feel worse. It's better if you can keep focused on yourself and your recovery.

Is your pain under control now??? If not and you are still taking the pain medication on a 4-hour schedule plus icing as much as possible, it is time to talk to your surgeon. There are plenty of other options for pain relief and he may need to try something different.

Thanks. Changed home care. Complained. They switched and it is 100% better with new agency. I had the dreaded bowel problems. I'm ill, just horrid . I saw others post about this or would not have addressed it . Thanks,

I am awake pain is high . Swelling in foot and leg bad . So tight it hurts to touch . I can not seem to get up and down easy. Feel ill 90% of the time . No matter how much i fight it and try to be positive . I am a true mess. Little to zero visitors. My husband is back at work , no much company, when he is here he stays in another room or outside. I do not want to be so gloomy . Drs office wednesday staples removed and brace off . Swelling so painful. My foot looks like a huge swollen mess hurts to move it bend it . Leg same feels like a foreign growth . I can not get it to do much at all. I am trying to comply but have trouble with your format .

Hi, you're little more than two weeks post op and this is the time when we all think we should be much better by now. The recovery from this surgery is a long process and it can take months to feel good. Its not only the issues with the knee itself, the swelling, stiffness and the like but its also feeling down, wondering why you've done this to yourself. I said to my physio that I was angry because all I'd done was exchange one pain for another. Her reply was that the pre op pain was getting worse but this post op pain would get easier. And she was right. So hang in there, take your med's on schedule, ice, elevate and gentle exercises. If your med's aren't working the maybe talk to your primary doctor as they can change to something more suitable for you.

Yes surgery was Sept 5 . I chills, pain. Normally I never complained like this with pain. I just can not believe this feeling of being helpless so long.

Honey, are you elevating your leg? Icing as well? Are you resting lots and lots? And I do hope you are not trying to do lots of exercises, are you?

Please read these to learn how best to 'do' recovery! There are better times ahead. You're in the more right now but I can promise you it will pass.

First are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!

Saw Doctor four weeks post op check today . He said mine was not the normal knee replacement . He also increased pain meds . Is this a better late than never thing ? Originally i was to go in and be home next day . Instead i had the immobilizer brace for two weeks . Severe swelling the blisters from that . Actually hurt to swell that much . Dr said today 25% of patients have that happen . I go to PT in a few hours . I was a gimp but life went on worked full time plus . Looking forward to posting good news .

So ill can not eat can not take meds .i can not function . Sorry I am a mess again.

Hi, the problems could be from the meds. Have you talked to your normal doctor to see if they can change you to something else that doesn't do this to you.

Recovery from this operation does give feeling of depression, why have I done this to myself, what did I do to deserve this, etc. They do pass I can assure you.

I did not call my doctors they are not in on Friday. I have flu like symptoms . You bet I have questioned this surgery from start. I did have major weepy days . Very unlike me. Today I had to miss PT . Only moved about four times all day . I have Been on anti nausea meds from day one . But still sick.

I feel like such a failure a month since surgery. I only have been out to PT and Drs. Appointments I Need a life . I have had to turn down jobs .i truly am trying to get well . Pam

Made it through a full week of therapy . So excited to report I now have 80 range of motion . Therapists said even though my OS said 90 is goal for me when I get thee she will call Dr. And ask if we can keep going . I really desire for full range of motion . She did obtain surgeons records . She was able to explain a good bit of it to me . I will ask for a copy some things I need to look up . It uses another word or what I had been told was tibial osteomy. OS also stated the tracking went to 90 then it was off . I want to keep gong finally feeling better, even though still taking anti nausea meds using a cane outside of home. It cray about that . This site has been very helpful .

So glad to hear things are more positive now. I know it's difficult for you, but please do try to focus on your successes...no matter how small. Your knee has been through so much with this surgery and it's going to take time to get better. Don't hesitate to communicate with your surgeon if you have any problems with meds. There are many choices and you need to be sure you have adequate pain relief!

Thank you Jamie . Today finaly got out and walked about a half mile. My husband Was worried . I Did it I need to build up my confidence . I have trouble with the cane kick it when walking sometimes doing something wrong .

Make sure your cane is in the hand with the Good leg. So you step on the operated leg and move the cane forward at the same time.

Today PT was able to break up some of the scar tissue . He also said the fluid my leg is retaining is most of reason why I am so stiff an having trouble . I called my family dr they are going to see what can be done. The PT also stated he thought my leg needed wrapped . I think I will call OS office and see what they say this is week 5 I need to heal and have some range of motion . I feel it is long overdue.

I now have. Copy of OS report . Ieg was not the " normal " knee replacement . I had severe preoperative eccentric contracture . Quadriceps snip as well as tibial tubercle elevation in order to get appropriate exposure of the knee .
