TKR Flying two days after TKR

Infection really is a rare complication, so try not to worry. Easier said than done.
Consider doing all that you can between now and October to ramp up your immune system.

Per Cleveland Clinic, as one example, things to include in your diet.
Fatty Fish - Herring, Mackerel, Salmon, Sardines, Trout.
Citrus - Oranges, Lemons, Lime, Grapefruit
Garlic, Ginger, Turmeric,
Broccoli, Bell Peppers, Spinach.
Yogurt, Almonds, Sunflower Seeds to name a few and a good probiotic can’t hurt either.

Wondering if you have a firm October date for surgery yet that we can add to your signature?

Lots of comfort and all the best to you as you wait!
@ERDocsMom
Thank you! I do not have a firm date as of yet. My first appointment is August 16th and I hope to get a firm date at that time. I am told the surgery takes place approximately 8 weeks after the visit.
I am on a good probiotic and am already trying to eat most of what you suggest. Taking tumeric and ginger supplements too. Thank you so much!
Kathy

I'm not sure to where to look for the subsequent articles on pre surgical conditioning for TKR's.

Thank you

Kathy

If you are now looking at a possible knee replacement surgery, we will be happy to help and support you. The articles you’re looking for are only available to members of our Insiders Club, so it will require that you select one of our subscription options in order to be able to view them.

In order to have BoneSmart continue, we had to find a more reliable funding source for our operational expenses because voluntary donations were just not sufficient. So we opted for a small subscription fee with a number of options for our members and it is helping. We definitely did NOT want to have BoneSmart close down, but it was that serious back in January when we made this change.

If you’re thinking about a joint replacement, you will benefit from the Insiders Club membership and I do hope you will see a membership option that works for you. Should you choose to remain a Basic (free) Member, you’ll still be able to use our search tool to find threads that interest you and there are some helpful articles on the website itself at https://bonesmart.org/

Has anyone flown and needed ice during the flight? I don’t know if I’ll be able to get any.
I have taken medication onboard a flight that needed to be kept cold. I bought the chemical ice packs that you squeeze to activate and declared them at security.
You could probably make some kind of bandage dressing to hold those in place.

The airplanes may be limited on how much ice they could provide for you. You might want to take some ziplock bags and see if you could fill them once you’re through security either in a food court area with a self-serve soft drink area or go to a bar and ask if they will give or sell you some ice. Be sure and use the sealer bags (not the ones with the zipper) and double bag any ice.
