Your attitude is an inspiration to those of us with 2 knees close together. Way to go on your progress - you will reach your goals!

Finally being able to drive after a tkr is so rewarding. It's like getting out of jail! Keep up the good work!

I do have 2 stools at my kitchen island. Silly me, never thought to use one - until yesterday when I decided that my husband's hair really needed to be cut. I did it sitting on a stool.

My knees are crazy I think. A day or two of feeling pretty good and then a day or two of more soreness and stiffness. This has been one of those sore and stiff days. Just when I think I'm over it.

Yep, I know of what you speak! Sometimes for no reason at all my knee will flare up. Who knows why? I hope tonight and tomorrow will be much better for you!

This recovery is like a rolller coaster ride for sure with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns and never knowing what's coming up next.

Today it seems every muscle and tendon from hips to feet are sore. Well, I took my meds and am off to bed and hope I can get a decent night's sleep.

Are you feeling any better this morning?

Thinking of you and hoping you got some sleep!

This is week #11 for Aug knee and #5 for Sept knee.

Thank you both. Got some pretty good sleep last night, interrupted only 2 times. Both knees still sore this morning but feeling better than yesterday. Such ups and downs! I can't complain too much though because I am doing quite well. I don't know exactly what my ROM is but I think it is probably 100 or 105 in Aug knee and probably about 95-100 in Sept knee - when I am not so stiff and sore. Extension close to 0 in both knees. Next time I have to go out I'm going to drive. My right knee feels strong enough.

Steps are still a problem, although I have the range of motion to go up and down them properly, it hurts, so I'm still going down newest knee first and sort of sideways and going up older knee first. Now I guess it is just a waiting game for improvement in stiffness and soreness.

I am now able to sleep for a short time on my side and it is a relief to do that.

Oh, that side sleeping is such a blessing! So many of us on here suffered through not being able to do it, but finally before you know it, the knee will allow you to do it! Have you tried putting a pillow under your new knee while on your side? That helped me some.

I have tried pillows in different configurations, but none have worked for lying on my left side. On my right side I don't need a pillow. And as you can probably guess, my left is the preferred sleeping side. Oh well. :)

Isn't that the way it goes! You'll get there, though, before you know it!

You are doing great and I admire your courage with having both knees done. My brother is thinking of doing that and I am giving him some up solicited advice. When I hear how you are doing it makes me think he will be OK.

@Floridagal, he has your experience he can pull from. He'll be fine. Sometimes I wish I'd had both done at once. Then it would be all over with but the recovery.

When I think of what the first week is like, if I had both done at once, I would have to go to a rehab facility. I don't think I could have managed at home.

I feel my ROM is inhibited a bit by excess inflammation. I have inflammatory arthritis and I think it is holding me up.

I have arthritis too - my hands, my back, my knees and my hips. Who knows where else it maybe hiding. I take two diclofenac everyday for inflammation. Right now my ROM is good in both knees.

@FlaGranny, I, too, take the Diclofenac. I try to use it only once a day since it can lead to heart problems. I also take turmeric, which is a natural anti-inflammatory. I can tell when I'm off of these. I have hurts all over me then! I'm with you. I don't think I could have handled two at a time. Right now, I wish I had so it'd be behind me like yours is.

I drove yesterday for the first time without a problem. Without even thinking about it I got into the car my old way, putting right leg in, sitting down and pulling in my left leg. I didn't realize I had done that until I was all the way in. ----------------------------------------------------------

WOW! That is amazing! You just had that right one done! I couldn't drive for 7 weeks. I know how that freedom feels. Enjoy it. You've earned it!! Oh and I remember that 2nd one was with Matthew headed your way!

It sure was! Getting ready for a hurricane with a new knee was no fun. My husband did most everything but there were some things I had to do too.

On the first drive I discovered that my leg was good to go - had to slam down the brake in the parking lot. My knee didn't notice it at all. Left knee feels pretty good now, but the right is still fairly sore when bending it. It gets sore if I am on my feet too long too.
