Wishing you the best and see you when you're back here.

Day # 1--3 Thank you everyone. I tried to post while in the hospital but could not because I forgot my password. Surgery went without a hitch and I was feeling pretty good on Monday. Highest pain level was a 3 and walking well with the walker. I didn't get home until around 7:00 p.m. last night. Tuesday was not a good day. Had a huge amount of pain last night, hospital PT maybe? I know, I know. She didn't touch me though. It was probably a level 9 yesterday when I would try to walk and about a 4 when resting. I am a lot better today - 0 when resting, 4 when walking.

In case Josephine reads this I have moderate swelling in the knee. Will try to take a picture of my wound later and try to figure out how to post it. It looks good with no obvious redness and very little heat. I've been sleeping a tremendous amount. Blood work after surgery put my hemoglobin at 14 - very good I think. My meds are oxycodone and Tylenol for pain, blood thinner and Celebrex (for swelling). There is The day of surgery my ROM was about 95 and 5. At PT it was 90 and 8. Yesterday it was only about 75 or 80 and today I think it is about the same.

The new knee joint feels very good. I'm not aware of it at all. It feels strong and more stable than the other knee. The hospital nurse also told me my surgeon was "cream. Well, I'm getting extremely sleepy. See ya all later.

So glad to hear from you.cant type much, very loopy and close to med time. Feel good

A hemoglobin of 14 is very good. It is within the normal range. Make sure you ice and elevate except when you need to go to the bathroom or the kitchen to grab a drink. Right now just take the time to heal and take your meds around the clock.

You left the hospital quickly @flagranny!im still here - going home tomorrow- glad to hear you are doing well ! Keep resting as much as possible

FlaGranny you sound very well! So happy for you. So glad to hear from you.

Good to hear from you. Sleep at this point is the absolute best! Don't worry about ROM right now, it'll come.

Day #3. Hi all. Thank you for all your good wishes.

I've been sleeping very well with little or no pain when I get into the right position. The trouble is my back is getting sore from staying in the same position. I can't tolerate the pillow elevation though. It is extremely painful to elevate. Will try again today. Sitting for meals and sitting at my computer right now. It is painful getting up and sitting down. I'm probably at a level 3 when walking about, with an occasional 5 - ouch. My right knee is complaining more now and also my right hip. My knee does not seem to have swollen any more than it was yesterday. I am using ice frequently. It's no piece of cake and my husband doesn't seem to be able to find anything I ask for. He's trying though.

My first post I meant to say that the nurse told me that the OS I chose was "cream of the crop" but I guess you all figured that out.

They told me in the hospital that I was doing extremely well. I could get my clothes on, go up and down steps, etc. Last night - not so much. Just need to work on getting this swelling down now.

@dianehelen and @zammie24 I will check out your recovery threads.

@kneeper I just noticed that my thread is titled Bilateral - I just had the left side done. The other knee will be in 6 weeks, God willing. Could you please fix that? Thanks.

I am so glad you are alright, we were concerned about you,

It sounds like you had great care at the hospital, I also did, that makes it so much easier to deal with.

Feel better soon. I wish you a smooth, painless recovery!!!

Getting up and down was painful for a while. I often sat on the side of the bed, gathering courage to to get out of bed. My hips and backside would get sore from sitting in the same position also, but walking about helped a bit.

I'm so glad you're home and doing well.

Are you elevating with a slight bend in your knee? That will feel more comfortable. I found, especially at the beginning, that my the difference between pain and comfort when elevating would be absolutely dependent on proper positioning. It would hurt a lot and I would be uncomfortable all over if it wasn't right. But then again, I can be high maintenance :snork:

I've flagged it for one of the mods. Congrats on being done and home. Finding a comfortable position can be a challenge at first

I hope you are doing OK, I know how challenging those first few days are..

Hang in there!!!

Thank you for fixing the prefix.

Day #4. Feeling a bit better today. It comes in tiny increments. Appetite is not what it usually is - I think that is a good thing. I am able to get comfortable with a pain level of 0. Moving around though causes sharp pain up to a level 2 to 4 and an occasional stabbing pain to 8. Swelling is a tiny bit less - the skin does not feel quite as hard I do have the numb area on the lateral side of my knee. I do not feel the replacement knee at all and so far it hasn't made any sounds. The pain is all from the muscles around my knee. The right knee and hip are acting up from overuse. I can bend my knee to about 80 degrees. Not sure what the extension is now. I have occasional bouts of queasiness and my mouth is so dry, I guess from the meds, on top of my already dry mouth problems. Eating crackers makes me feel like I have a mouthful of desert sand. Looking forward to the little improvements.

I'm sleeping quite well. Usually only wake up when I've got to go to the bathroom. In the daytime it's a bit hard to stay awake. I must be sleeping 10 or 12 hours a day. That's my update for now. It's time to go lie down.

Thank you again for all the good wishes.

Sounds like you are doing great for day 4. Sleep is absolutely the best for you right now so sleep away as much as you can. Glad you are doing well.

Sounds like your recovery is going very well! Remember, your job right now is to rest!! I found after both my TKR'S that my lower back (which troubles me anyway) was more painful than my knees. Having meds and ice for my knees left me in very little pain....more discomfort than anything. My lower back was another story! Elevating my knee made it worse. My doctor's office gave me a muscle relaxer, but those never seem to help. Hope your other pains go away....and remember, it WILL get better!
