After several false starts it now appears that my hip replacement should happen in January 2018. Different hospital, but same surgeon. So far - keeping my fingers crossed that it works out this time.

Good for you @LowFlow
January will be here in the blink of an eye and you'll be in recovery and on your way!
Here's to a great 2018 with no hip pain :yay:
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Thanks people, this has been a long long process. The diagnosis was first made back in 2013, but with a long term knee problem which overtook matters, the hip went on the back burner - to coin a phrase. Literally on a burn now! My knee recovery seemed to stall June 2016 & nerve pain took over. Referred back to hip surgeon & accepted for surgery, but then fell off the list and had to start again. I had a date for on or before 8th September 2017. I was phoned and told that "I wasn't going to make my guaranteed date" - as if it was my fault! However having been in the queue many times before, I don't think I'll believe it will happen until the first injection ! I am so looking forward to having a sleep, breathing some fresh oxygen & just making the most of having a couple of days with post op pain relief. Then the recovery work starts again.

Met my new Surgeon, who exuded competence and compassion! Pre-op - done & dusted; hopefully, all bloods etc OK and my OT Equipment arrives on Friday 21st - an early Christmas Present! Whoever thought that they would ask Santa for a Toilet seat Cushion? :-)
Could possibly even happen just after Christmas, so maybe a December op after all! But I think I'll plan for early January after the New Year and keep my fingers and toes crossed. Hearing in the news of all the extra workload due to slips and falls with our recent icy weather conditions, unfortunately, council cuts mean that the many pavements & roadways have been left ungritted. I've always thought that that was a wasteful way to look at it. Even volunteers have found that there is no grit provided in the dump bins, and Glasgow is a hilly city! So glad that I'm now in the 'National' stream and not the general clinics at our local 'Superhospital', as it has been this very scenario which led to my op cancellations before.

Glad right hip is on the horizon. Be careful on the ice!

Now - that is a definite, MammaT ! Must admit that I sometimes don't go out when it's icy. Sometimes 3-4 days!

We have same problem is the states with some areas not being salted adequately-or gritted as you say! I love learning new expressions on here!

Hi there @LowFlow
Love your comment about asking Santa for a toilet seat cushion :heehee:
It's great that you feel confident in your surgeon. Hopefully your surgery
will happen soon. What a wonderful Christmas or New Years gift,
to finally lose the pain. I'm sorry you're suffering.
Warm wishes for a great week and a :merry christmas: to you! Please stay in touch.

That delay happened to me Lowflo. I had a tooth abcess and was then warned that my funding would run out. I had to ring them for weeks before I was back on the list, so my pre-op was 7 months before admission. Finally wonderful surgery and care on the NHS. Keep your bag packed Lowflo, in case they ring with a cancellation. You’ve had a bit of a gruelling time with your knee, but you’re nearly there.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you now @LowFlo .....they're certainly keeping you guessing!

Yay for hip for the New Year.
Hope no more delays...hang in there.:hi:

Rightio! We're off and running! I got the letter confirming my date, and had my phone call 'reminding' me of the date & another one checking that I haven't changed anything or caught anything since my pre-op. I am so excited it's ridiculous! So - 0730hrs I check in to the Golden Jubilee Hospital on the 4th of January. Needless to say the last days have been a flurry of organising things at home. From not putting up a Christmas tree - cos I won't be able to take it down, to arranging Home Care for my Husband & Mother without any pre-assessment - talk about a leap of faith! To arranging for the Boiler to be repaired, which decided to drop water pressure on the first really cold night: hoping that will happen before I go in, as currently I'm the only one who can go down to the basement to top up the pressure daily. Last night the snow came down, first time in the city for a while - I'm taking it as a good omen re my op, as it has always snowed the week before a previous op. 2018 - it's got to be better than before.
