Revision TKR Complicated RTKR revision 2015, considering LTKR

Went to Physio today. Haven't done any bending exercises now for over a week since my re stitching. Interestingly ROM was measured at 110, 10 more than 10 days ago, which I'm happy with at 3 weeks post-op . The PT was a bit miffed but I'm not at all surprised since I've been on this forum for a while !

I did have a thought about this PT vs no PT debate... In my case, the PT is offered at the specialized hospital where the surgery was done. It's done in a group of 10 -12 patients at various stages between 1 -8 weeks post op, overseen by one PT, one PT assistant and about 6 volunteers, all students in kinesiology, OT or PT.. It's complicated but this weird arrangement satisfies our public Heath insurance..) Sometimes I do see the PT 'helping' someone whose bend is not where he thinks it should be and I don't agree with this. He does back off immediately if the patient expresses any unease but I don't believe in this. Other than that, each person is really doing an individualized program with supervision when asked for. The busy PT checks each person in sequence,,answers questions and changes programs by agreement between he and the patient . Sounds and is a bit hectic but folks generally do feel helped. One important side effect is that people spend a lot of time chatting,,comparing ( for better or for worse), and most importantly supporting each other. I suspect this mutual support is the most important benefit most people get out of this.,that and getting out of the house twice a week to overcome the cabin fever...

Woo hoo!

So today I'm bored, bored , bored. I did all my gentle exercises, went for 2 short walks, even out for a quick lunch with my daughter. A little stiff and sore but none the worse. So now im back in my recliner , elevating and icing andvwatching dumb TV. Does anybody else feel like they'll go out of their mind while they're waiting to get better ?

I recuperated two years ago during the Polar Vortex. Cabin fever was BAD! I was afraid to go out because of the ice and snow. Just when I was thinking if driving a bit I ended up back in the hospital and didn't drive for another 45 days! Luckily I had a good friend who drove me to appointments and out to lunch after until I could drive. Swear I know all the dialogue from Law and Order.

Keep thinking we should use our collective 'free time' to make the world better while we recuperate..except some of us are drugged and none of us can drive and most of us can't think straight!

Really, I'm not complaining. Just had a sad phone call about an older friend who died after having surgery . It was very high risk but still I know that in reality I am very grateful to be alive and looking forward to better times.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Our minds can wonder when there's nothing of substance to occupy it.

Thanks. We all have to look for the balance in life.

@Randi, just came over to read your thread. I'm so sorry about your friend.

Better times are ahead, we'll get there. I've know I've been lucky with this left knee recovery. We'll see how the right knee recovers. Hopefully I will have one or two weeks near normal before the right.

In answer to your question about boredom. I'm very bored!

Maybe we should start an "I'm bored" club !! If we figure out something interesting to do, we'll solve this !!!:rotfl:

I got myself hooked on audio books. The good ones with excellent narrators are outstanding, and I can listen while I relax, drive, bike, whatever. Give it a try.

I am currently listening to the wheel of time, a 12 book series by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson when the original author died at book 9.

I liked books on tape too when I was recovering.

Busy day yesterday. PT in the morning then back to see the OS in the afternoon. Everybody, including me, is delighted with my progress. Measuring 120/0. OS says that may be it since he made sure everything is really tight this time. He explained everything he did and also removed the stitches. Says I can try driving in and out of the driveway to make sure I'm comfortable with hitting the brakes , then take off when I'm ready. Hooray! No swimming for 3 more weeks because of the redo of stitches. Nice day. Even ventured out for dinner. And today I'm zonked. Oh well ...

Another question cuz this is the best place for answers. I'm doing well but a new wrinkle. I'm having an almost constant 'pull' in my calf below my TKR . It's particularly bothersome lying in bed at night but even now in my recliner with my leg extended and icing. PT gave me a stretch to do but I'm wondering if that's making it even worse . Going to shower and then go for a short walk to see if I can shake this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

I think it's normal to hav all kinds of muscle and tendon aches and pains throughout this process. I had the calf pulling for about three weeks after surgery and it has gone now. I just wish the tightness and pain around my knee would go away, but I know that will take longer.

I asked the OS about the tight band. He said we can talk about it in a year if it's not gone :gaah:

I bought an ice pack set that has a bid one for the front and a small one for the back of my knee. That resolved my band issues when I had them.

Thanks @wberry. I've been experimenting with just that the last few days. That gnawing pain is starting to ease off . Seems like every day pain pops up in a new spot. I understand that and it's all manageable.
I'm still struggling with when / whether to take the oxycodone I've been using or to switch to Tylenol Arthritis. Some combo of both now.
