THR Cisne on the other side

@Cisne 11-weeks tomorrow! I'm happy you get to return to taekwondo. I get to ride my bicycle the same day:spin:

Yay! @dougie0216 Im excited for both of us! Happy 12 weeks! I celebrated by taking my new hip for a walk. It's humid here but I made it around out football shaped neighborhood-a little less than a mile. It's the first time since the rash issue back at week four. Here's to milestones! Monday starts the "get back in shape " push officially. Are you heading to granddaughter's birthday this weekend? If so, safe travels!
Much love to the Bonesmart crew!
Michele

Hi all! Today was my 3 month check-up. I'll be 3 months Sept. 1. All looks good. We talked about my left hip, there may be impingement there, and we can try injections before surgery. Right now it doesn't bother me enough to worry with it. The right looks and feels good. I'm cleared to return to Taekwondo and run. My muscles will need some strengthening before running happens. I'm excited to be returning to an activity I love and look forward to a Sept. 1 start date! I'll see my surgeon again at 1 year.
Hope everyone is well!
Michele

Great news Cisne. Best to you in all your endeavors...

@Cisne 12-weeks!! The trip to granddaughter's birthday was great fun. Going down hurt but it must have been a bad day. Coming back was great, I had no issues and drove for 3-hours.
Just working and working out so I can get back on the bike next week.
How is work going?

Hi @dougie0216 ! I'm so glad it was a good trip! Work is going well. I'm still tired by the end of the day, but that's getting better. The big news is that I went back to TaeKwonDo last night. It was good to be welcomed back. Getting into some of the stretching positions makes me feel a little awkward . No pain, just muscle weakness. I stayed for two standard classes-2 hours. I did spar a little at the end. My quads were pretty unhappy by the end, so I went home and iced. I need to work on flexibility and strength, but overall was really pleased with how the new hip performed. A younger student that I sparred w told me I was really strong. Not right now, but I will be again.
All the best,
Michele

Great new as you have had such a great recovery. I'm officially the worrywart :scaredycat: as I sure don't want you to hurt yourself at a few months out.
I am a month ahead if you and am ready to get back some of the physical strength and stamina I've lost over the past few years. But been surprised I can still belong to the ODIC.
Please take care.

Hi all! Just a little under the four month mark, and doing really well. I'm back to TKD, but still need lots of work in terms of strength and flexibility. I'm having some thigh pain-maybe from the bone growing into the implant? Has any experienced this? Was a cause identified? Hope you are all doing well!
Michele

@Cisne Hi Michele. Our hips were 4mood old yesterday. I do have some random pains in the thigh/joint occasionally. No where near as bad as with the first one. Sleeping in my left side is not as comfortable as the right. At least I can sleep on a side after a year of sleeping on my back only.
Cycling made me hurt the next day so i scaled back a bit. We live on a big lot and I have taken back over all lawn duties. I definitely got my walking in this weekend.I
Have fun with TKD. I need to stretch more, but after work I have been doing largely nothing. Shorter days, lack of energy. Works sucks.

Hi @Cisne, wow, back to doing martial arts. Very happy for you. :yes!:
I'm wondering if TKD isn't classed as impact sports? With the jumping, and bouncing, and kicking... I used to do Muay Thai competitively, but have been told under no circumstances am I to go back to training.
Your post gives me ideas of possibly returning to karate. It's been at least 20 years, so not sure how I'd go. :giggle:

Lol @Susan209 I think 20 years is enough time....stretch ladies ...to get ready for kickboxing... I plan to go back to Yoga and Pilates...but...that will be a while

As long as you use common sense and understand that some moves might not be possible or harmful to your knee, I think it is exciting and interesting to open a new door

@Cisne Hello! I am reaching out to you because like you, I've had a right hip arthroscopy that was not successful, and so expect to progress to a THR. (I am also a teacher, named Michele, and have a red belt in Tae Kwon Do, though I stopped TKD in my 40's).
I am looking for some good news from someone who made it to the other side of this, as at this point I am demoralized and hopeless from months of being sedentary and in pain. Are you still doing well?

Hello @Scarab ! Welcome! Yes, I continue to do well and am so thankful for my new hip! I was able to return to TKD, went running a few times this summer, and can easily walk 5 or so miles. I sit cross legged on the floor with my students and really don’t feel limited in any activity. My hip feels like part of me, and I’m basically pain free other than the odd ache. Really I think my residual aching is muscle based and I chalk it up to the two arthroscopic procedures. I’d be happy to answer any specific questions you have.
All the best,
Michele

@Cisne
We had our hip surgeries one month apart and I was ever so glad to see all is well with you.
:ok:
New hips rock! Hope your holidays are bright!
