I am sorry that you had to go through that experience. There are indeed folks who post here who are having many personal problems in addition to replacement of a joint. Also, Pain meds affect us all differently.

My mom had dementia as well and that is not easy. My mother was pretty mean most of the time, and she got worse!! There were lots of funny things though: the party where my mom went around asking people if they brought the cake. Finally after 30 min, my aunt, who is a nun, shouted at the top of her lungs, "I brought the cake"!! My mom looked at her sister and said, you don't have to shout!!!

My brother said, when someone asks you the same question over and over---the first 10 times, you are nice. After that, there is a breakdown!!

Seriously though, I am sorry you have to go through this---it is not easy and there is not a lot of help out there in the world. Please continue your positive posts----I really love how our members support one another.

So sorry to hear this. Please try to put this horrid experience behind you and let your Bonesmart friends help you through your journey to recovery. Sending a big virtual hug :console2:

I guess pain can make you lash out. I did see the post and thought it was completely and utterly out of place and I'm glad you had it removed. You've been through an awful lot with your surgeries and certainly didn't deserve that abuse. I really hope you start to feel better soon. You have lots of friends on here but it's the odd poster who's really unkind that really undermines everything you've done and fought for. Lots of hugs to you. xxx

Poz222,
I am sad about the hurtful post. Bonesmarties are supportive of each other 99% of the time. Thank you for your post reminding us how important it is to be kind to each other.

Well said Christeen, well said. Hugs to you :console2:

I saw that post and reported it instantly with the words "crazy person alert". It seemed like someone got possession of another's log in info and frankly I could hardly understand what they wrote with their um, creative spelling and grammar. I think you were just spammed by a troll. Don't you dare take it to heart. Could have been posted on any of our threads. Right now we are vulnerable because emotions lie close to the surface after what we have been through. Please keep posting.

First off... A great big hug and thanks to all of you who were so nice and supportive. And you all are right that I can't let one persons insensitive comments or a troll stop me from getting support. I guess between the procedure and meds and well... Everything I am more sensitive than usual (which I guess is normal). However, I firmly believe that positivity is an important ingredient in recovery and support from others like on this forum and having others who really hear you and understand is part of that. So thanks so much, I am humbled  (but not "prissy" lol).

So I actually feel I turned a corner to the next phase of my recovery over the past 2 days . First, I switched to cane which is so much more free feeling. I can actually carry stuff. Of course this extra freedom comes with the temptation to overdo things (I stupidly thought... Wow, I can cook dinner) WRONG! I got about 10 minutes into it and just sat down and said, "honey, I will walk you through the next steps"... Then I took my pain pill and iced most of the evening... Thursday staples out and I can't wait cause it is itching and pulling... I keep doin the "weave tap" to get by.

Well, I turn on the TV and now it looks like I will have to help organize hurricane prep for Erika:capn:.I started my hurricane shopping list and hope to get my brother to pitch in for mom as my mother (whom I am her caregiver) has special needs cause she is on dialysis... Not sure what to do if it is strong and we lose power for a long time. In Wilma 2005 we were 2 weeks without power... I am scared that I will have to do without ice for a long time :yikes::yikes: as post-hurricane finding it is as rare as rainbow fartin unicorns! It will be soooo difficult for me to do any storm prep so sadly it will fall on the saintly husband. I REALLY hope she dissipates or changes course!

@Poz222 Here's to turning corners!! So glad to hear that your doing well, cept for those pesky staples lol. I can do easy dinners from a seated position, just don't have a great endurance for standing yet. I did throw in a pot roast for tonight, it's pretty much a one pot dinner and soooo good and easy.

Yikes about Erika. Hope she turns out to sea. Hurricanes are one of the reasons my hubby says he'll never move to Florida. I am soooo ready. I'm done with New England winters, they just last forever and I'm a summer girl.

After 3 hurricanes rolled through Orlando in 2004 I swore I would buy a generator. Being without power for two weeks in a Florida summer is no fun. But still have no generator. Wilma really slammed you folks down south. Time to stock up on water and batteries. And dig out my battery operated fans. Those saved me last time. No ice would really be bad for you as your surgery is so recent. Maybe you can find a neighbor with a generator who would supply you with ice. I had to drive north an hour and a half to find a store with ice. Bought several bags, and had too much for my coolers. So went door to door to my neighbors to offer it to them. Every one of them were gone, and had left their generators roaring away. No pioneering spirit there!

Glad you are feeling better!

I'm a Florida girl born and raised... So a storm every 10 years is expected. We have built in storm shutters and home is concrete and enough inland so all ok... Just dealing with the power out for days in hot, sticky weather and cleaning up debris is nasty... And dealing with the people hoarding everything in the supermarket until they restock the shelves... Ohhhh I soooo hope she dissappates cause I ain't got time for all that! Lol...

Hey, how did the dressing removal go?? Feel better? How's it look?

Ya, a friend of mine in Orlando (near Valencia CC) got walloped by Charlie too.. Lost some of her roof and ceiling caved in!! 04/05 was quite a year! We have a generator but run it limited as the constant noise and fumes give me a headache. For the ice, just found out a friend of ours with a sailboat is going to bring their little ice maker over (they are going away friday on a planned trip) In case I need it! So some relief I will be able to make some at least!

I wonder how the low pressure will effect the new joint? I have pain and stiffness and really FEEL low pressures and fronts in my other joint replacements, so I imagine I will feel this one too? Hmmmmm?

Staples out!!! Much less pulling feeling. My OS said I am doing pretty good (he did not measure but eyeballed it at 95/2) but admitted he had honestly expected a bit better based on all my past joint replacements... I explained to him that I am a chronic underachiever (just ask any of my HS counselors) but it will eventually come around and not to worry... He was OK with that. He also mentioned my Rheumatoid migh be causing extra swelling/stiffness?

One thing, Apparently I had them rolling laughing in the OR as I was really talking up a storm (even narrating stuff using a lot of sarcastic and colorful language)!!! My OS is a pretty cool guy anyway, young and laid back.

He would like to see me to 110-120 by the next appointment (1 month) but everything feels ok and looks good on xray. I get one more week of home therapy then outpatient. 1 week and I can start going in my pool.

Only sucky thing is we are now in hurricane prep mode!! I am not sure how the low pressure will effect the joint. Plus being without power is going to be MISERABLE!

Awesome OS visit! He may not be thrilled wth your ROM but it's really improved a lot in the past 2 weeks! You've got plenty of time. It will be nice to do PT in the pool. My sister has a pool so since I'm off and the weather is nice, might as well take advantage of it.

Were you awake during your surgery? Colorful language? Lol must have been a riot!!

Didn't it feel nice to get out?? I thoroughly enjoyed the change in scenery, even tho it was just for a little while.

If this hurricane hits, I may be able to do water therapy in my driveway!! :swim:

Seems I was in "twilight" but I have NO memory of anything.. I thought I was totally asleep but with the nerve block and spinal they dont put you completly under. But I was making comments like "oh s#|t, here come the robot" and when he asked me if I needed more medication I said "H8ll yes!" So seems funny..

Lol that is funny! Not to mention all the things that you said that he maybe didn't tell you about :rotfl:.

Hi everyone...question...is this normal? I got my staples out yesterday and in walking around last night/today I feel like it is not stable? Like it might give out? Is that just my impression or is there actually less stability without the staples?

I've had some feelings of instability. I don't think it is to do with the staples directly, more likely quad weakness, although your incision will feel "looser" without the staples. I've spoken to my PT and OS (and folks on here) who have all said the same - nothing to worry about, when your quad strengthens the feeling of giving way will lessen. This is true - I've only felt it once in the last week or so, it used to be a few times a day. Great OS report! Fingers crossed that the hurricane doesn't cause you any problems. I was in Orlando when Fay passed over in 2008, wow, that was a lot of rain!

@Poz222 i would think that you no longer have the tight feeling of the staples which gives the impression that your knee is looser. I would think that would pass after a couple of days.

You may find, as I did, that as the swelling subsides your knee might feel as if it is buckling. Might just be coincidence with the staples removal. Goes away as muscle strength returns.
