Too bad for the CPM :-( I really like it and allows me to do the heel slide movement easily. I am here through Friday. I had a bout of nausea earlier when I sat in the chair the first time but all OK now. Walked again this afternoon to bathroom and doorway. My CPM is on 10/60 feels OK. I just have a constant dull ache in shin and back of knee.

Yes the back of my knee is killing me!! That's my worst pain spot since the recovery room. It is also very bruised. Here's hoping your nausea was a one time thing. I always get severe nausea/vomiting after general anesthesia, so they put that scopolamine patch on and all was well. They were able to take it off this morning. Maybe some ginger ale and saltines will help if the nausea returns.

The PT here are very gentle which I am happy about.
That's good! Mind you remember to be gentle with yourself when you get home! And ice the back of your knee for relief.

I also see that this is your FIFTH joint replacement! We have a new section in here called 'other joints'. When you're feeling better, it would be absolutely great if you could drop in there and share about your shoulder replacements - 10 and 14 years old, no less! That's amazing!

I actually liked my cpm machine it would rock me to sleep but only had it for like 17 days Dr said they are not much good after that my PT said that after you got to 90 they were not so good.

Yup Josephine. .. truly bionic (6 million dollars (in medical bills hahaha) had to have a revision on my first hip last year too cause I wore it out. Love my shoulders (not the scars but the joints). I will be sure to add my experiences later to the other areas. The PT people all joke that I could give them pointers on replacement rehab! Long day today so I wait for pain pills then try to sleep. .. night tkr peeps

Finally got some sleep last night! I was stiff and sore this morning but after the CPM for 1.5 hours then PT (walking, stretching etc.) Feeling better. Pain under control and I am sitting in chair now. The incision is still draining quite a bit as I have a good amount of swelling. Thus, my ROM is still only 10 on extension but I increased to 70. But it will come I am sure. Main thing is I am moving around well and feeling good.

That's a good update. Nothing wrong with 70 at 2 days out. Your ROM will increase over the coming weeks once the swelling decreases. I was at 75 at 10 days out and am now at 121 so just take it nice and slow. Meds, ice, elevate, rest - you know the drill!

Yay for sleep!!! So glad to hear you're feeling good and able to move around. ROM will get better little by little. The swelling can be unbelievable!!! I am finally home in my own recliner and it feels so good. My knee is a beautiful purple color. Are you coming home tomorrow?

Yay for going home! Yes I go tomorrow (doc wanted me to get another day of hospital PT and wound drainage. I can't wait! Enjoy ur bed! Don't try to do too much!

Why is your wound draining so much?? Is it bloody drainage? Do you have sutures, staples, or glue?

Yes, I for some reason I have a lot of blood drainage hence the extra swelling. It was much less with this afternoons empty so I think they will pull tonight or tomorrow am.

Oh so you have a drain in place? Well then that makes sense. It's so funny how different each OS does the TKR. I have glue and no drainage that I can see but I'm not allowed to take off the bandage for 2 weeks u til I see the ortho PA.

I think I have staples with drain. Yes, every OS has their own way of doing things.

Funny thing I found out, I woke up with the "in the jungle" song stuck in my head, the surgical nurse just told my they put headphones on the patient during surgery and that is one of the songs on the soundtrack! I did not even know they did that. She said studies have shown that playing music while patient is under anesthesia might improve recovery and needing less pain medication!

How cool is that??! That's awesome!!

Drain out... aching tonight. I rest now, busy day tomorrow. ..

I slept some but they decided to move in another patient at 1am and have them up st 5 am for surgery so not too relaxing . But i am up and on the CPM machine to loosen things up. I always feel so tight znd stiff in the am.

Enjoy the feeling when you walk through your front door. I laughed and cried at the same time!!

So I had afternoon PT here I'd hospital and it was a different person thus time (a guy) I did not like him. He was saying about the "short window of time after which I sm stuck with my results and that with knees it is important to push to the point if pain. I told him I completely disagreed with that philosophy however, I would like to get whatever tips and advice I could from him but I would not be hurting myself.

I am soooo ready to get out of here! The roommate they brought in is a huge whiner and negative Nelly. She had a procedure to bust up a kidney stones and a Stent and she is saying how she us in unbearable level 9 pain and complaining about every nurse and staff person. And she has a 5 year old watching cartoons at volume 25 and running around thd toom and a mom pacing the hallway. Sorry... venting. .. ready to go...

5:30 is my parole time! Meanwhile I am trying to relax with my CPM machine.. counting the minutes! At least I can in pain and sleepless at my own home... thanks for letting me vent!
