Thesoutherncook... Does the fluid ball hurt to touch? Mine is so tender and painful. It seems strange it is in the exact spot where they (pt) was doing painful massage and said I had an adhesion? So I was wondering what tendon/muscle connection was back there that could have adhesions or become inflamed... But I am icing it and resting.

Could it be bursitis, a collection of fluid in the bursa. I found this on line.

In my research I came upon a Baker's cyst? Anyone have any experience with these? They are affiliated with the popliteal area which is where the pain seems to be coming from. It is a visible ball behind the knee on the very top part of the calf where it intersects the back of the knee (but on the interior)... I have RA and have been having a terrible flare the past 2 weeks if that has any influence? I am open to all thoughts...

From the way you have described the pain it sound as if that is exactly what you've got going on there. I hope it does just go away. At least you know what caused it and get your pt to stop with the massage.

Thanks pumpkln ... It could be what it is?? Don't know... I have appts to orrow with the PT medical practitioner and Tuesday with my PC ... Meantime taking anti inflammatory mess, pain and ice and resting... So frustrated!

OK... So here is what the Medic at the PT wrote for my Doctor (I have apt tomorrow with my regular Dr.)
That I have been experiencing severe pain, swelling and Grade III tenderness near the pes anserine insertion that could be indicative of a bursitis in the area that is limiting her progress in therapy. Her popliteus musculature has also had increased resting tone and tenderness. And my ROM has decreased and the would like directives on how to progress therapy. They are referring back for possible inflammation control via medication or injections.

I am starting my research on this PES ANSERINE INSERTION to see what this all means. Any help again is appreciated!

FYI, today they did some ultrasound thingy, then electrical stimulation, stretches and some massage but not too intense then an ice massage... they said to continue stretches and really working on mobility and moving the joint to try to increase ROM. But I feel like the flexation is being stopped from behind the joint, I get pain right behind the knee that stops me from bending it, especially in heel slide position. In a sitting position it is much easier to get more flexation?? Feeling lost and going backwards :-(:hairpulling::boohoo:

It just sounds as if you have over done it at Physio. This could be your knee telling you to stop letting them massage it until it hurts. Is it getting any easier with rest. My knee is constantly sore but I know that is because I'm trying to do too much. It doesn't hurt when I rest.

Yes, might be too much or too intense PT. I have not had the best luck with PT in general. I will ask my Dr. About the steroids. I have also been in a bad flare with my RA... just disappointed I guess, I had been feeling so good before this.

So I went to my primary care and he said.... Wait for it.... I need to go to my Orthapedic .... Ok great. Good news is that I was able to get an appointment with my OS's partner next Tuesday as he is out of town till after the 10th. In the meantime my doctor gave me a re for naproxen! SERIOUSLY, Alieve! Gee thanks :thud: Meanwhile I am in terrible real pain. I am so lost right now.

Thanks @Celle Pumpkln and Christine.... I am resting in bed with ice now... I wish I had something stronger than Alieve and Tylenol for the pain... But I don't have anything else (cept Vodka or Run) :martini:. I managed to get in to my rheumatoid Dr. At the VA on Thursday (a miracle cancellation otherwise dec was the first one). Then I can at least get my Humira Rx to hopefully control this flare... Then Tuesday I have orthopedic appt. I am going to skip pt the rest of the week to see if I can get rid of this terrible pain. I am also hoping to get to my Halloween parties to help with my sad terrible attitude...

Good idea to skip the PT. Sorry you are having such a tough time. Definitely make it to a party. If you can find a comfy spot with your leg propped up, all the boys and ghouls can flock to you.

I'm sorry that you are having such trouble. Yes definitely skip PT. Hopefully you'll get your humira and feel better, at least from the RA. FYI rum and vodka wrk wonders lol!

Thanks ya'll... Spent today resting, icing etc. seeing my rheumatologist tomorrow. Feeling a bit down...

Sorry to hear your spirits are low. Hopefully the OS can give you some good news that will get you back on track. It is quite natural to have down days when you were doing so well and feel that you have been going backwards. Hang in there kiddo, better days are ahead for all of us!
