Thanks Josephine, so nervous....not had time to think about it much as I was expecting it mid-late September. Felt very tired as one does anyway during this TKR, no time to stop meds or anything, I wonder if I should tomorrow.....BP tablets, might ring.

My thoughts are with you. It will be over before you know it. The hardest thing is lying on your back for 12 hours after. I just got a new generator in December and they replaced a lead in December, and it was painless, with local anathesia only. You will feel so much better when your heart will stay beating at a proper rate.

Dorothy

Thanks :) I don't think I have to lie down for 12 hours. I've just asked and they said only as long as sedation is still working, then I can get up, at which point I shall want to walk the knee I expect. I'll report back from the other side of this in a couple of days. They have to remove the loop recorder too. Shall be a new me so long as the other knee doesn't decide it wants a bit of attention too. At least I won't have the numb leg with this little op.

Getting ready for this procedure. Not looking forward to another night in hospital. Bought some disposable ice packs the other day as a day hasn't gone by without the comfort of icing, so I'll take just a couple. Have a week of appointments, physio, bloods and a clinic; will have to play those by ear.
Hoping I shall feel better after it with the implant.
Sue, appearing calm but shaking.

Everything fine, late on the list so have to stay in. Only lady so ward will be quiet. Knee aches a bit as lying on back for 4 hours and can't change position. Used one of the 2 disposable cold packs, will have to wing it but hopefully get pain meds for today's wounds. Had I V Paracetamol, very light sedation and local anaesthetic for removal of loop recorder and implant of pacemaker.
Sue.

dorothy, thanks for your message and support :) I was fortunate to only have to lie flat for 4 hours and very relieved when that was over and I could visit the bathroom, move my knee etc. I already feel different heart-wise. The hospital was lovely, everyone so kind and I had a single room overnight as it was a day case unit but a few of us had ops too late to be discharged and the others were all men.
I do feel sore all over now. The surgeon took put my loop recorder out, with some difficulty, and then put in the pacemaker higher up....it took longer than anticipated about 1 1/2 hours. That was L side, knee right so all a wobble now!
Knee caused more sleeplessness than PPM incision.
All done now though phew!!
Sue :spin: :spin: :spin:

Sue.:)

SUE Been off the forum for a couple of days and what have you had done. Only a new pacemaker. Im so sorry not to have been here for you offering you support. Im pleased everything went well for you. What hospital did you go in. I do hope you are taking things easy. Your poor body has been thru so much. There will be no stopping you now, pacemaker and a new knee. Sending you lots of hugs. Will be keeping an eye on your thread now so no more popping off for any more ops OK

I went into Wythenshawe, my poor husband....back and forth, back and forth. I've just had to ring out of hours for advice. I've developed a very itchy rash that I'm pretty sure is whatever they disinfected the skin with. At the Nuffield I had a rash from whatever they washed the bedding in!
Cancelled all appointments this week.
Can I pinch your "Onwards and Upwards," for a minute, it's what we always say in our French studies too when we come unstuck......which generally is all the time!
Sue.:thankyou:

O dear about the rash. O good you sound very happy and upbeat. Im so pleased everything is over for you now . How about your trip to France. Is your finger still hovering over cancel????? Hope you have a good sleep. You will sure need your sleep now for some major healing.

Aw, thank you Pat, loving your avatar too! I woke at 7ish had a cup of tea and a read then went back to sleep until midday. Incision site very sore, just had breakfast...thank you hens, and am going to take some meds.
Sadly, I think France will have to wait for another year until I find my French head again! Dh is processing lbs and lbs of French beans....if only they could speak!
Sue.:friends:

Well your sense of humour is still there Sue. Cant keep a good un down. Hope you have a restful day. You will enjoy France much more next year.something to look forward to. Take Care x x

I had to see the GP about the rash. She pronounced it "spectacular," and caused by whatever antiseptic the area was daubed with prior to pacemaker surgery....twice. I have strong antihistamines to take for it. Although I've washed the area, I haven't been able to shower it properly as the 2 wounds are glued.
My knee unfortunately isn't getting the stretching and exercise it needs and is swollen and stiff again. When I feel better from the lastest surgery I'll go back to concentrating on the knee, and restart the Celebrex that seems to make a difference. I'm back on stronger pain meds too, trying to keep all this surgery in perspective and not let it get me down.
Have to sleep on my back again because of latest incisions.
Having a couple of days away next week in a spa town.
Lost appetite again, back to chocolate  in moderation as enjoying losing a little weight along this long, long journey.
Sue :umm:

Hi Sue. Good to hear from you. Sorry youre not sleeping too well. Wow youve been thru such a lot im not surprised you lost your appetite. What a good idea to go to the spa. I hope you have a happy healing time there. Its horrible how the stiffness comes back so quick when you stop exercising or stretching the knee. Not really sure how long that lasts but I still get it now. It does get you down. Look after yourself. X

Thanks Pat.:) Have you been to your physio? I cancelled mine and have it rebooked for next Tuesday. Hoping you are feeling a little better.
Sue
x

No i didnt go Sue. I will rebook when Im feeling better. I dont at the moment. i feel very let down. Maybe Im just having a pity party i dont know but I really didnt feel up to going. Take care x

Hi Sue, we've been in the throes of moving so I didn't see your posts until this morning. Sounds like your pacemaker procedure went okay, and I'm sorry to hear about the rash you developed. Hope it's getting better and that you're getting relief from the pacemaker implant pain. I'm glad you didn't have to lie flat for any longer and know it must have been keeping your leg straight all that time. Keep up with the chocolate and enjoy those days in the spa town. Sounds wonderful.
