Well done! Your GP won't need the x-ray but be sure and take it to the consultation. If you got any report on the
x-ray the GP can attached it to the referral letter.

I doubt he'll need the report! He's far too experienced for that.

Good luck. I'm excited for you!

Update.....

Not quite sure how well that went ?
My GP has referred to to the Oxfordshire Central Hub where they will decide who I get assigned to.
I asked specifically for Adrian Taylor and the GP agreed he was the best person for the job however he was powerless to make that decision. He said he could write to Adrian however the letter would only get to this central hub who will filter it out.
I guess I will have to wait for them to contact me and then fight my corner then ?
These were the people who refused me an appointment to a surgeon in the first place which is why I paid for a private appointment. could be a battle....

Here's the trick @sandyharman , can you afford a private appointment with this consultant. I did a bit of research and he does have a private practice in Oxford. If you can afford it, book in for a private consultation ASAP. Ask your GP for the referral letter he sent to the NHS but have him change it to private and fax it to his private secretary. You can then talk to this consultant about doing your THR on the NHS. He sees you, you talk directly and you agree to have the op under the NHS. Worked for me!

Another tip: wait till you are assigned a surgeon and then phone Adrian Taylor's NHS secretary. With as much courtesy, pleading and desperation as you can, tell her (if) you've been assigned to someone else and that you really, really want to see him and can she please fix it for you? Some secretaries can and may or may not be helpful. However, other may not be able to and then you're scuppered! But it's worth a shot. Just remember that if she does intervene, she will be doing you a big, big favour so be as nice as you can - short of bribing her with half your worldly goods! But who knows, if the gods are smiling on you that day, you may actually get assigned to himself anyway!

Hey both,
Thanks for tips I will try and use the old charm and if that fails I will book an appointment directly
Any ideas how long I have to wait before I hear back ?
Thanks so much for your help

Private you will get a date when you phone.
NHS could be anything but according to the Patient's Charter you should only wait about 12 weeks for your first appointment.

Cool I will keep you posted !
I owe you both massively

@sandyharman when you finally see the consultant be sure and get his NHS secretary's phone number. You will most likely need to chase a surgery date - or at least I did. Please let us know how it goes!

Right change of plan I have decided to pay for an appointment so I can hopefully bypass this central hub rubbish, just need to convince him to see me on NHS....
Will ring them tomorrow....eeek

Update.....
Unfortunately Adrian Taylor only takes referrals even if private so I've had a 3 week battle with the pathetic MSK triage. Have you ever dealt with these ???
Finally I have an appointment consultation with Adrian a week on tues.
Do you know how long I have to wait after my consultation ? I guess it differs
Will keep you posted !!!

I've had a 3 week battle with the pathetic MSK triage.
Been there - in my case it was 5 weeks.
Do you know how long I have to wait after my consultation ?
In my case I had my op 16 weeks after being referred by my GP. You are supposed to be treated (i.e. have your surgery) within 18 weeks of referral. My surgeon added some slots to his schedule to catch up.

Well done for keeping at this. I know it is a major task! Please update us after your consultation. Sounds like you are finally on your way!

Good luck sandyharman.
I'm going ceramic on ceramic for my right hip. I'm 43. I'll let you know how it goes. Feeling a bit nervous now but also a little excited for a better quality of life.

That's the norm. You can only ever access any consultant via your GP. It's the law, I'm afraid.
so I've had a 3 week battle with the pathetic MSK triage. Have you ever dealt with these ???
Oh yes! Elevated physios in my opinion! And one step in the delaying tactic of avoiding the horrendous expense of hip and knee replacement! Truly - I don't jest!

Anyway, why are you having to run the MSK gauntlet? Just tell you GP you want to consult with the hip surgeon and be assertive about it!

Yep hopefully seen the back of MSK now, trust me I did everything to try and go direct

Orange peril - good luck keep me posted !!!

Thanks for all your help will keep in touch
