@Skrinkette Thank you for your kindness. I just know too many people with, as you put it, "less than stellar" outcomes with back surgery, and a couple who have wound up in far worse shape than when they started out.

Actually, some of he alternative stuff IS now covered -- my chiropractor is in my plan, and there are a couple of actupuncturists also on my plan. Not sure about any trigger point or myofascial massage people, tho. I'm going to do some checking in to it.

Today I am still feeling very drained and tired so I am not going to do much. I just wish there was some old fashioned caring in the medical profession nowdays, but that seems to be a thing of the past. Nowdays everything has turned into an assembly line and it doesn't feel like there is any real humanity in it. Everybody is so rushed and seems like they can't wait to get you out of their hair (you're number 3,457 and they can't wait to get on to number 3,458 so they can get them out of their hair, too) It's not that they don't do great work -- they do -- but all the compassion is gone.

Just bummed, I guess.

Did you get your UA results yet? Sorry to be such a downer today, just tired.

Love,

Milli

Hi @ Butterfly. So glad to hear the good news that your implants were unaffected...what a relief for you. I hear what you say about back pain and spinal surgery...the pain drives you mad...I was lucky..I had discetomy and decompression, which worked great for me...but that was 20 years ago and I now have spinal arthritis and very little flexibility. I have found the osteopath much better than a chiropractor to relieve back pain. However, I've found that the best relief from back pain is a hot water bottle and gentle exercise. Unfortunately once it's inflamed it takes quite a few weeks to get relief......I do hope that you manage to get it under control very soon Milli....after all what you've been through you deserve a break. Take care...Chrissie x

The day is still young, but am doing OK. its pretty chilly for this part of the world, but can't complain based on what I see elsewhere. We actually turned on the heat -- a very momentous occasion!

I slept well, hubby is coming along nicely pain-wise, & I just wrote email to OS's office confirming their receipt of my neg UA. Best thing about today is that my house-cleaning people are coming. That's always a nice lift. I'm thinking of increasing their frequency since I've kind of lost control of my house & can't ask hubby to do even more.

Still got a few more things to do: last bit of filing, maybe finding some really flat bathroom mats that provide just enough absorbency for after shower, but not too thick or fluffy to be hazardous. I really hope I can walk barefoot after op if OS corrects LLD.

How's your day going?

Ellen❤

Hi Milli hope you are hanging in there. I did not need a referral for my neurologist and I just got really lucky. There are not too many where I live and he took my insurance. Later I found many people who went to him for various problems and everyone lives him. He is very kind and I found most neurologists do not believe in surgery. He did my MRIs and we went from there. I had already tried PT for my back which really didn't help. He did give me Vicodin right away. He also gave me a muscle relaxer because I have such bad spasms. He kind of played with the medication until I could sleep good. Gabapentin a nerve medicine and muscle relaxers at night and basically Vicodin during the day. The injections I get are really amazing. I can only get them every six months but they do last about four months. They do not hurt at all. You can have anesthesia - pain doc is anesthesiologist - like when you have a colonoscopy or you do not have to have anything. He uses a guided imaging X-ray type system so they know exactly where to give you the injection. I do not get any anesthesia and have always watched them during the procedure. The needle is so small and you are numbed. I honestly never feel a thing. A shot of Novocain from the dentist is 100 times worse. Some spine orthopedic doctors also believe in this.

The relief I get is almost immediate to a couple days to take effect. There are also different types of injections. The first ones I had were did not work and then he tried these transforaminal injections which work wonders. It is an injection I believe to the side of the disc. The injections contain steroids and it only takes five to ten minutes.

You can google this to get better information. I just know the injections as well as my medication allow me to have a life. I believe I would be bedridden if I didn't have these options! I would definitely try a neurologist though. For me at least they have been much more helpful in managing my pain. I love my OS but he definitely is not good in managing my pain and understanding that I want to have a life.

I do hope you find some relief. So many people do not know how hard it is to live with this chronic pain.

Hi @Butterfly Milli

I'm so glad your implants are all ok but sorry to hear that it's a spine issue....I would dread that. I wish I could get my physio to see you...she is amazing. She used to be the no 1 seeded tennis player in her era but had to give it up due to stress fractures in her spine. She became a physio because she felt people wouldn't have to give up the things they loved doing due to injury. She is super honest and will refer you to the right people if she doesn't feel you are getting any improvement with her.....maybe you can search around for a physio who can help you?????

@Jozilla has some great ideas too and @shrinkette is a great support too...isn't she???

I'm so glad you have someone coming over to help you.....I can't imagine being by myself. I'm quite down this week after coming back from hols....I miss my old life and routine.

Hang in there....I was reading through some old threads about people with infections similar to min and I came across this lady @JackiesLost who went through a lot and she had a cute saying......

When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!!!

So hang in there.....

Just popping in to say hi & give you an e-hug. Hope you're a little better today & maybe even feeling encouraged by Jozilla's info. ❤❤

Thanks, everyone for your support and caring. I saw my chiropractor today and feel a little better. Back stuff is just a long slow climb once it gets bad. I am going for acupuncture tomorrow. I am feeling a bit less down today. I have used the cane most of today, instead of the walker. The walker is a big downer for me -- I just feel so crippled when I have to use it, and it is clunky and hard to maneuver and slows everything down by half.

My Emily got tangled up in my lace sheer curtains on my big front window today and pulled them down. That was some excitement I didn't need!! She was expressing her displeasure at the mailman and I guess got one of her nails caught in the in the curtains. I had put a low table with plants right in front of the window, but she just pushed it aside. GRRR!

Peace and love to all.

@Butterfly. So glad you are feeling a little better and a little less down. I've never had acupuncture...hope it works well for you. Your Emily sounds like a character...bet you love her to bits even with her naughtiness! Thinking of you! Chrissie x

Pssst....just popping in to check on you & tell you I'm glad you're feeling a bit better after seeing the chiropractor. Hope you're still there & that the acupuncture is helpful.

And Emily!! OMG -- you needed that like a third armpit! Hope someone can help you repair the damage. Keep hanging in there...sounds like you're on the right track.

Love,
Ellen

Hi, @Butterfly ... I am not on bonesmart these days too much due to work, a flu bug, "other pain," etc., but am thinking of you and hoping your back problems get solved. Back problems are complicated and what works for one person's pain doesn't necessarily work for another's. So it makes it all the more frustrating. You have every reason to have felt low lately, given all you've gone through to get the two hips fixed. But at least those are out of your way and no longer an impediment or danger to your future mobility. I hope the acupuncturist gives you some relief. Back problems are a whole other kettle of fish, and I am as baffled and frustrated as the rest of us for whom "simple stretches" or "core exercises" or (especially) "PT" is NOT a magic bullet. Please take care.

Hi @Butterfly. I noticed in one of your responses and then came to find yr thread about back pain. Having the same problem. Its a problem i'm used to but yr right. Its kind of disheartening. Using hot water bottle and taking it easy which usually helps. Thinking its just the old body settling in to a new situation. But there is the occasional thought that i did too much too soon. Which is not much at all but i stopped using the crutch recently. Anyway. Best to you and hopefully this will pass soon for us both. I postponed my first post op check up till next week so i wouldnt have to travel a couple of hours to get there. Devorah

Hi @Butterfly .Wow your still having back pain? That sucks, hope you get better soon.Just think it could be worse. You could also have those old hips dragging you down also.Sending you some of my positive power Milli in case you need it.Peace.

@Roofmaster Thanks for the positive power you sent me! I need all the help I can get!

My back problems go all the way back to a bad car crash in 1963; problems resurface every once in a while but I can usually deal with them. Big problem I was having is that I couldn't use any of my normal coping stretches, etc. because of hip restrictions on my more complicated side (which of course is the side that is kicking up). It is getting better now that I can get chiropractic treatment, and I've also had some acupuncture, which is helping too. Hopefully I am just about past this (knock on wood); it went on for a bit over a month and was VERY discouraging. But I'm delighted with my new hips!

Thanks for writing.

Peace and love,

Milli

Hi @Butterfly that's frustrating about not being able to do your stretches...isn't it????

How are you feeling overall...how's the pain?

Think of you often

Glad you are feeling better Milli @Butterfly..... Hoping your recovery from the back pain gets better and better. Best wishes...Chrissie x

Going for more acupuncture today. It seems to be helping me a lot. I've never understood why it does help me, but it does. It seems a bit woo-woo, but I'll keep on with anything that helps. A number of years ago a co-worker convinced me to try acupuncture for my carpal tunnel (actually she more like badgered me into it -- I basically agreed to try it to get her off my back) and it helped me a lot. So I'm doing it again, with pretty good results. The only place I am seriously uncomfortable now is when I am in my car. Must be seat position or something.

Anyway I am getting better and am SO glad. I was sort of in despair there for a while.

Love to all, and thanks so much for the support.

So glad Milli.....might be inclined to try that acupuncture...woo woo or not!! Hope your improvement continues.....Chrissie x

Hi there Milli, @Butterfly - so pleased the acupuncture is helping! I am a great believer in it. I have a wonderful Acupuncturist who leaves tiny wee needles in situ for five days. It is a particular type of acupuncture. Works a treat, only problem is that his practice is a bit to hard to get to during working hours.

Keep with the woo hoo.. Whatever works honey xx

That's great @Butterfly that you have found something that helps!!!

Acupuncture really helped my mum with a skin condition when NOTHING else worked. She was a theatre sister and had to continually scrub her skin and acupuncture cured it.

Stay happy xxx
