BossK's recovery thread

At just two months your IT band may still be tight. Plan on doing absolutely nothing when you get home from school today. Ice, elevate, nap tonight, don't worry about PT or exercises. You're back to work super early, so don't worry about PT or exercising.

It was a rough reentry, to be sure! @KarriB fortunately we had a snow day and a delayed start on an already short week! I ice and elevate three times during the school day, and my kids have been pretty great about understanding my need to sit.

Now I've got some serious tightening behind the knee- that IT band again? I can feel it flick over the back of the knee, which hurts! Not sure what can be done about that. I'm doing PT only once a week now.

Once you're fully back at work, you will probably find that everyday life is sufficient PT.

Getting back into the routine was very hard and tiring for the first little bit. Continue to pamper yourself as much as you can. Take out meals or have a husband pick up the slack for a bit. It will get easier in time.

That tightening is probably from the additional activity involved in your day to day life now, so try to take it easy after school.

I agree- everyday life is PT enough! I visited with the other PT in office and he is a pressure point therapist. He discovered 10 weeks later that I still had damage in the area of the tourniquet placement, and worked on that for 30 minutes. What a difference in getting stubborn swelling to go down! I'm going to see him first on the next one!

I'm doing Hello Fresh meals now, and what a time saver!! Next month we schedule my right knee, and I'm thinking of taking the last two weeks off of school and just kissing summer goodbye so I don't have to deal with a sub for that long again. Then again, I don't want to let me daughter down by not being able to do summer stuff with her. Any thoughts?

All depends on how many sick days you have. If I were you and had sick days I'd take off in April to give yourself April, May, June, then you could still have some quality time in late July early August. But not sure you'd want to do that after being off his year.

Hi, @KarriB,
I still have something like 40 days, but just hate using that many more this year. Thinking about doing it at the end of April as May is always a wash here. (We end around May 23, go back close to the first of August.)

I would hate to leave a class again also, so I understand.

Well, here we go again! Knee replacement #2 is scheduled for April 17. The decision was made for me because my doc is going to be out of town, then moving his practice on the two dates I had for him as I was attempting to avoid using more sick time off from teaching. Oh well. My right knee, the biological one :), has been letting me know that it is time anyway.

Now, on to your next journey! It'll be here before you know it and then it's over!

This earlier date may give you some actual summer to enjoy before going back to a new school year. You'll be two months post op June 17 and three months July 17th!

Yes, I am seeing it as a blessing in disguise, that I'll be near 100% by the time we go back. I just hope they find a good sub. God's plans are better than mine, haha!

I keep telling myself that- that a mere six months from now I'll be feeling like dancing again.[emoji1]

Always! I think getting this over will be so much better. There's a shorter time to worry about it and a better summer and fall for you in the future!

I'm also having my third TKR on my old knee since it has also let me know it's time. Since we share the same op date we can recover together!

Do we?? Wonderful! Let's make it an encouragement date!

Indeed! I am thinking this is working out better than I had planned!

Hi, @newlybionic, and hello all! My next replacement is approaching. Started all the prep stuff already. April 17 can't get here fast enough now as my right knee is letting me know without a doubt it's time. We went to a hot springs resort last week for Spring Break, and as I was climbing out of the river across a few boulders, my right knee slightly dislocated and popped back in. Left "knew knee"? No problem!
Ok, I'm ready!

Ouch, those dislocations can be quite painful. It won't be long now and you won't have to worry about that anymore! Isn't it great to see the end in sight! I'm finding my new knee taking on more and more of the work load, giving my old knee a break. At first, I thought I'd have to have it replaced soon, but it's doing so much better now. I'm sorry yours hasn't gotten better with the new knee taking over. But, it will soon be over and you'll have two new knees!
