THR Bionic Jaycey checking in!

Whatever I did yesterday seems to have eased but I am stiffer than usual this morning. Yet another reminder to take things slow and steady as @Poppet says. I am really feeling the muscles around my hip now. Goes to show that these aches and pains can take weeks to appear post-op. Trauma is tough on muscles and soft tissue.

The good news is I had to move my car today - only a short distance down the street. No problem at all! No pain and since I have a Smart, I do not have a clutch pedal to worry about. I need to make a fairly long drive in another 1.5 weeks so I am very relieved at this result.

Happy healing all my fellow hippies!

@Jaycey are you going to practise driving a little farther and a little faster each day till your long drive? I had to do that, and was not able to even start till five weeks out! The GA caused fuzz brain for that long.
Maybe feeling the muscles around your hip is positive-- means the swelling is abating?

@zauberflöte , that's exactly what I am going to do. Tomorrow a short drive to the grocery store. Early next week a longer drive including a motor way. I'll do more short trips if I feel I need to. I am very lucky - with this THR I have had no fuzzy head. That was a major problem for me with my LTHR. I think it was the blood thinners that made me very dizzy.

I think you are right. My op leg is visibly smaller and the tenderness is only slight around my incision site. Progress! Thanks for reminding me!

Good Morning Jaycey! Now you are in trouble... back to driving and SHOPPING!!! Watch out stores.. here comes Jaycey! :heehee: Joan:SUNsmile:

Ah....what a glorious feeling it was to get behind the wheel of my car and know that I could drive around and not be afraid. Funny, though, I could go pretty much wherever I pleased, but I was so hesitant to get OUT of the car once I'd arrived, that I usually only went through the drive-thru for an ice cream or such! It didn't take long before I was ready to tackle Target, though, and I have the credit card receipts to prove it! Enjoy your well-earned freedom and pay attention to when you've "had enough"! :happydance:

@beachgal when I started back driving, I was overpoweringly nervous that I would get too far away and need rescue! My first solo grocery shop, a very small one, had me near to passing out in the checkout line!!

@zauberflöte, AGREE! Me, too! I really did stay in my car on my drives unless I could use a drive-thru! Little by little, we figure it out. So proud of all of us for taking it as it comes!

Hi, @Jaycey ... hope the stretches have helped ease up the discomfort after that walk that you described. I wonder if the surface one walks on makes a difference in these early weeks. (I recall switching from pavement to a gravel road a few weeks after surgery and found my knee on the op side really protested, to the point I was limping badly and had to stop. Weeks later, no problem.) I hope the weather has brightened and you've been able to get more sleep, too. Overall, it sounds like this recovery is going well, I hope so anyway. Take care and hang in there. Another week down and one week closer to fuller recovery!

@Poppet ... I think I would go nuts with a pedometer that talked back to me! Mine is just a plain but very good little pediment that I put in my pocket when I have a pocket. It does not reset every time I twitch, either, which was a problem I had with another pedometer.

I would suggest everyone put "pedometer" on their list of post-op tools. I wish I'd had one in the first few weeks after the THR when I walked my corridors in the apt. bldg. as walking therapy, but had no clue how much mileage I was doing. Was it too much or too little? Who knows, but it'd have been interesting to see.

I also wish everyone who posts on BS who talks about "how much I walked" would specify if they mean "throughout the course of the day" or how much they walked "all at once", without stopping. Sometimes someone will say, "I walked 4 miles today" and I always wonder if they mean their pedometer clocked that mileage for the entire day ... or if they mean they actually walked 80 city blocks without stopping, all at once, which I think is rather a lot. Anyway, little miss details is my middle name(s). I will catch up with you on my thread as I see you "over there." I love your avatar.

@Peaches I agree! It would be helpful for those to come and those in the thick of it to know whether distance walked is day's total, or allatonce. I don't have a pedometer, but my phone has a handy little app that measures distance reasonably well so long as I am "out on a walk". I tried it in the house and it told me I had walked nearly half a mile between getting up and breakfast. Not likely!!
@Jaycey how is the driving coming? :)

Mission accomplished. Took the car to the grocery store. Picked up the dry cleaning and a package. Driving was not a problem. I will need to stop frequently to avoid stiffness but other than that - all seems fine. Oh, and I did some laundry. Obviously I am now tired!

:sneaker:So well so well, you are doing so well!

I think they implanted patience along with my pretty pink ceramic and stardust hip! Not sure where it came from but thankful for the dose. Ah, glorious sleep, hours and hours of deep sleep -- I am boasting - and thankful I have all the sleep advice here and using liberally and effectively!

I think you might be right @Peaches . Although I haven't had this problem since that day.

Another active day but I am obviously tired as I slept for 2 hours this afternoon. Might mean I don't sleep tonight but I am sure it was needed. Lots of packing boxes and up and down stairs today. The stairs one by one is getting very old!

Right - so I am officially bored with all this recovery stuff. Enough already! Tired of not being totally mobile, having to watch every step and generally not being able to live life. Everything seems a struggle. Hmmm …. think it's the one month slump!

Sorry you've hit that "I'm fed up with being an invalid " time @Jaycey...that's a toughie for sure. I remember thinking that it was never going to end.....but, you know, it does and the good news is that you must be feeling better to be feeling that way. Hang on in there...the good times are coming!! X

Awww @Jaycey sorry! At one month I was still so delighted to be officially off the hook for all but the simplest stuff that I played on here and watched movies far past the time I needed to! I was resting religiously (and look where it got me--tendonitis still a major nuisance if I cut out my pills, sigh). I am thinking you are recovering way faster than I did!! :)
Your time will come!!!!

Doesn't feel "fast" to me. But I do think I am progressing better as I did not wait too long for this THR. More proof - get it done and get on with life (well maybe not immediately).

Thanks for all your support!
