Thought I’d hit the one year mark but it’s a few days to go - but here I am with my annual update. 99% of the time I forget I even had this knee (or the other) replaced. Maybe if I kneel on it and mostly when I’m tired that click in the background, is more noticeable, particularly climbing stairs. Small issues and on the whole it’s solid, strong and probably better than new. I think second time round the process is far less stressful, there is more acceptance of the journey, less sweating the small stuff (which feels monumental at the time). And, like everything else, it passes with patience. I did a few sessions with PT but felt it was a day killer and the process too paint by numbers, one size fits all. I did all my usual activities, pulled back if felt it was an overdo and lived to ice as much as possible. After the 6 week follow up with surgeon I never went back - this forum gave me all the reassurance and help I needed and for that I’m still very grateful. During this 12 months there were improvements - I’m remembering lifting any weight set me back painwise - not significantly but enough to note. For example, I learnt that changing the bed and lifting the mattress at the far end to tuck in the sheets I needed to holler for help. That faded and as it did I had to remind myself I can do that, and everything else, with no difficulty whatsoever. I hope my update has given some comfort to other Bonesmarters who are starting or in the middle of their recovery. Thanks to all the moderators and staff once again for being there and being so caring.
