TKR Benay's Recovery

Hello @Rockgirl4 great to hear from you. Wishing you an uneventful (trying for the best wording here) recovery. I think the buildup is so much worse than the other side where you know eventually (although the time does drag same as the first time round) it'll all be in the rear view mirror. I'll be watching out for your updates and sending you best thoughts.

Happy One Month Anniversary, Benay!
Recovery buddies are great. Nice you and Rockgirl reconnected after years.
I hope you have a wonderful week. Happy Monday! :SUNsmile:
@Benay

This is the first day of my 5th week post TKR. I’ve feed 2 very tame wild ducks every morning for 2 or 3 years (they come to my whistle or they're already waiting impatiently for me and eat from my hand). In "normal times" I combine this with a 3 mile morning walk but since this operation I get driven to the lake and back and walk to them only a short distance. This morning I felt 5 weeks is a good time to see how driving feels. I was surprised to find it felt totally normal, I think with each step I’m getting my freedom back slowly but surely. Great progress!
It is so nice to regain that independence.:driver:
Before you know it you'll be back to your normal routine of walking.
Happy Weekend, Benay!

Oh my goodness...I love it! Or jump out of trees. I'll confess one we did as kids. We used to jump off the roof of our garage onto the grass below. Crazy kids! All we have now is the memories. :wink: :)
Thanks for the laugh!

The close to 6 week OS appointment yesterday, "looks like a zero" and after an unexpected, seriously brutal shove at the bend "that's a 130". I think without the shove a comfy 120. When I told the PT person, she said that happens not infrequently because they're more familiar dealing with the sedated/unconscious :yikes:

No need for the 3 month check unless I feel there's a change or any concerns. I'm more mindfully active but it's not always easy to rein in the things I'm anxious to get back to. I do activity in spurts that's between ice and rest. I'm starting to feel normalacy creeping back.

Whew, your post about the brutal shove and "looks like a 130" made me cringe.:yikes: I probably would have popped the guy in the jaw and then said "Sorry, it was a reflex!!":whistle:

I'm glad you can see normalcy just around the corner. I bet the ducks/geese loved it as much as you did!!

Yikes about the shove! Ugh that's why I don't like anyone to touch me. I think I will continue telling them not to touch me at all and just let them think I'm that odd person that has a mental problem about being touched. I let the surgeon move my leg around but even then I don't like it (though he's never hurt me when doing it). Sorry that happened good grief!

I hope you continue to improve - sounds like things are going well!

That's awful! I'd tell him to never do that again, and that you will move your leg on your own. I had that happen once after my first scope and lateral release. The doctor pushed my leg and I passed out. Never again have any of my knee surgeons pushed my leg!

How are you feeling today after the 'push' yesterday? I pray OK. You can always ice and elevate, and rest more to recover from it, if you need to.

Post push, which was Thursday, I've recovered totally thanks. It was such an out of the blue ambush, have to wonder if it's his norm... I like him, Yale educated, young, generally pleasant. Just baffling. Maybe it happens more than I imagine.

I’m sorry your surgeon did this to you. I agree with @Toothfairy, it sounds like it was more about his results, than yours. Has it caused any major increase in pain or swelling?

I had a somewhat similar experience, when I was one week post op. It was my PT, and while he didn’t suddenly shove my knee, he did slowly continue to bend it to an excruciating pain level. I thought my knee was going to explode. Obviously I still had stitches at one week post op. :hairpulling: I won’t let anyone do that to me again.

Glad you fully recovered from the aggressive mishandling you endured. Sounds like you won't need to see the OS anytime soon unless an issue crops up. Fingers crossed the remainder of your recovery is smooth sailing.
I am sure you'll be guarded from here on out not allowing anyone to forcefully manipulate your leg.
So sorry it happened...thankfully you're feeling better. :) Have a great Sunday, Benay!
@Benay

Your kind words warmed my heart early this Sunday morning. Thank you!
We appreciate you sharing your journey here and for the support you offer others. I hope you have a lovely day and week, Benay!
@Benay

We have found through the years, that Bonesmart slows down in the summer months, so noticing this now is nothing unusual for us. When cooler weather comes, we will pick back up if things follow the same path that they have for years.

Sleeping better us such a blessing! Most of us didn't have that in the early days like you have. Enjoy it and be thanful!
That's really interesting. I have also noticed how much more quiet it's been than my knee experiences. But I just thought it was hips vs knees.
