Hi, I'm popping in to say hello to my August surgery friends! I am eagerly awaiting surgery and have no regrets or apprehension yet. I am doing some work on my house to get ready for my less productive time post-surgery, and was having some really good days and wondering if just enjoying being home (I'm off for the summer), the extra rest, etc. would "heal" my hip. Well, when I went out to do errands, like taking my daughter to the mall, etc., it all came back to me, today worse than ever. I have the tears in my eyes from pain like I used to have and I realize that I am very fortunate to be having this surgery. For 3 months last fall I followed the Paleo auto immune eating program, which pretty much alleviated all pain (but did not improve range of motion, or hip function). Most of the year I have followed a healthy eating program. The last couple of weeks, because I have been busy with a huge home improvement project, I have been grabbing carb meals which is why I think I am suffering so much. Now that I know which foods affect me, I'm afraid I'll have to give them up forever (which is all my favorite, of course). Anyway, hope you are all doing well!
Oh, one more thing-my husband had a colonoscopy the other day and he was in such bad shape afterwords, groggy, disoriented-I had to dress him, etc. It made me think I might not want family near me for a while after the surgery. I was having a hard time dealing with seeing my husband in that state and I worked with elderly people for 17 years (prior to the last 25 years in pediatrics). I think it's harder to see your own family in a less than vigorous state.
