But, after a 20 minute car ride, sitting in a chair at a restaurant is VERY uncomfortable

While I had a hip replaced, as opposed to a knee, I found the confined space of a car maddening for several months post op. Combine that with sitting at a restaurant which isn’t always the most comfortable anyway and its not surprising you felt like you had to change positions every 15 minutes.

I feel the most pain-free when I'm walking (still slowly) and feel no pain when walking.

As they say - Motion Is Lotion which would apply to both of these quotes. The PT at my surgery site reminded me of that…which I thought sounded silly until I realized it’s true.

I know what you mean about sitting at restaurants. Tomorrow we are having a belated Mother’s day lunch at a restaurant with the family. It’s one of our favourites but the chairs are not comfortable at the best of times. Never mind, being out and about is worth a little discomfort, don’t you think?

I agree! And we're going out tonight and tomorrow night. As long as I can regularly move my leg at a home or restaurant, I'm good. But standing up once I've been sitting - OMG! I look and feel 100 years old.

Hi everyone - I have a scar treatment to highly recommend to anyone interested. I had been using Mederma, and that worked well. But the last 10 days, I switched to Biocorneum advanced scar treatment with silicone and an SPF of 30. It feels amazing and you can hardly see my scar now, and I'm not even at 8 weeks yet. My husband's dermatologist recommended it to him after recent MOHS surgery on his neck for a cancerous spot. I'm so grateful!

Hello! Today is THREE WEEKS since my TKR on April 5th. I'm doing well EXCEPT that my blood pressure started to rally spike over the past weekend. I saw my PCP today and he said it's caused by pain. The last week I've been taking 1/2 oxycodone (5 mg) four times a day (sometimes 10 mg.) and two or three Advils for inflammation. My doctor thinks the Advil has spiked my BP and advised me to eliminate it and take Tylenol along with Oxy to see if that helps. Tylenol has never seemed to help any pain I've had, but I'll try it.

Has anyone else had spikes in blood pressure? Anyone else still on narcotics three weeks after? My biggest surprise in having this surgery is that I've had almost no pain management help from the surgical team. I'd love to hear other people's experiences in weaning off narcotics and the OTC meds that have helped. Thank you!

I am at week 6 and take 1000 mg of Tylenol every 8 hours, 5mg of oxy to sleep, 5mg of oxy some days to do pt, too much Advil or other nsaid raises my blood pressure, also, so that’s why the Tylenol oxy combo until I can take just Tylenol and an occasional Advil. Hope this helps.

My doctor told me that I can get my first knee replaced Then two weeks later I can get my second knee replaced And the recovery time is four weeks. I am very new to this group and from what I’m reading it seems that the recovery time can be up to one year!?
Please tell me your honest opinions of my statement above thank you God bless

I can't imagine a doctor saying the recovery is four weeks. I'm at eight weeks and doing really well! But still discomfort and my doctor said I'll be feeling almost back to normal at 12 weeks. But the ensuing months will be incrementally better all the time. My honest opinion is to give yourself two-three months!

Thanks Westendavr: When I wrote that at three weeks out, I was still taking occasional 1/2 Oxy. I'm happy to say at the end of week four, I stopped taking any oxy, and since then have taken small amounts of tylenol and advil Then this week (8 weeks post-surgery) I changed to Aleve - which as helped even more.

thank you! Yes, I am happy. My PT experience has been really good and I like my therapist. She's pushed me harder than I would push myself and it's made a big difference. But I don't let her go too far, and it has worked great. Also after yesterday's appt with surgeon and seeing the very cool X-ray (!) I feel more confident and less worried about the pain/discomfort. I understand it better and don't worry that something my be wrong. Thank you, God.

thanks kiwicurls - i'm doing well - two months today! But still have discomfort, I guess that's normal. My biggest complaint is going out to eat, or being at someone's house - i need a chair for my leg! haha Too painful. I have to elevate it, then put it down. up and down every 15 minutes or so. Assuming this will pass...

Here I am at 10 weeks. I've been doing great, until yesterday. I decided to get on my elliptical instead of my Peloton for the first time in six months. It felt good. The surgery leg did feel like a tree stump and very heavy compared to the other - but i had no discomfort and it felt great! I stopped at 12 minutes just to make sure I wasn't doing too much


Well that was a bad plan as it turned out. I had to go to a church meeting last evening and sat for 90 minutes. I WAS able to elevate my leg off and on, but I had more discomfort than I've had in weeks. THEN, when we went to leave, I found I could barely walk. I went home and iced, took 3 Advils instead of Aleve, and it was the most uncomfortable evening I've had in weeks. Today is not much better. Walking is painful and very difficult!!!!
Gees, I guess I overdid it but am so disappointed and am feeling discouraged.

I’m sorry you’re so disappointed, but it’s just that you did more than your knee was ready for. 10 weeks is really still early days, and it will get better.

I saw your 10 week scar (no scar) photo. Just ordered some BioCorneum from Amazon. I hope my results are as good as yours.
