THR Anterior - 3 weeks in recovery<<

I too am a fairly happy person.
When I was bummed out, my son called me Eeyore!
Now, I'm Tigger :happydance:
At one month out...better to take on the Pooh personna.
Just laid back and taking on the frustrations with a "oh fuss and bother" attitude instead of letting it get to you. (Easier said than done, I know)
It's the vulnerability and feeling dependant thing I think...

Hope today is a better day Smiley!:)

Yes,, today was better, but did too much as I’’m often prone to do when I feel okay... Guess we’ve all been there. Thanks again Mojo, your attitude and support are just wonderful!! :wowspring:X

Hi Mojo

Just a quick question, I did a lot of walking today as well as sitting for a long time in front of the computer. My hip is now hurting, do you think it will settle down with rest and ice?

Thanks :)

Yes. Rest, ice and elevate. Pain medication if needed as well. Any new activity may result in that hip complaining. Just keep trying - it gets easier.

Hey there hippy pal!
Just left work...and saw your post.
Jaycey coached me through some of my toughest times!
Hope you are cooled out:ice:
It can be a little tricky doing enough but who knows what's too much.
All very normal for a month or so don't be anxious.
Hope you have it managed and don't feel like you have to go without pain meds especially at night when you need to rest.
All temporary!
Have a great evening!:friends:

Hey there Mojo,

Well I’ve slowed down considerably now frin what I was doing, which is good. Just finished the 5th week.

I went off all my meds in week 3 after I had that UTI and that vomiting and nausea thingy and seem to be managing okay.

I find that if I get up around 9:00ish in the morning, then do some office work, a bit of housework and meals, then more officework, another words I work thought to 5:00, I’m darn exhausted and by 4:30 in the arvo my leg starts screaming at me and then the pain gets worse from there. What I try and do is lay down, ice, elevation, rest (great advice given to my by the gals here at Bonesmart) and then take a Panadeine Forte and go to sleep. This does tend to work, but I think that I’ll have to cut down on the office work as this is what is making me tired and giving me the most pain.

I work for myself at home doing transcription and to do this you have to sit in a chair in front of a computer with a headset on and use a foot pedal as you type. A normal transcription day is around 7 hours work, split into morning and afternoon. Unfortunately I cannot do that now and this means that my income is dwindling down as if I don’t work, I don’t get any money. So it is a very fine line to try and juggle work with my hip recovery. A tricky situation, don’t you think, Watson? Ha ha. :heehee:

I do say, dear Sherlock, that is most assuredly the cause and a conundrum.
I had to live poor for a bit to give myself extra healing time...
An investment in our future, I've heard quoted here.
I do think that too much of anything is not good for us for the first four months or so...
Too much sitting
Too much walking
Too much PT
Too much working
Every thing in moderation is to be our mantra...and even moderation can be too much.:sigh:
Never too much icing however...I think.
Sorry you restricting your work activity is biting into your finances.
I am also not independently wealthy not do I work for a company that gives me leave pay.

My sympathies...just please take care.
A few months further down the road and all will get easier if you don't cause chronic issues now...so...
Hope you are able to relax some this weekend!:ice:

Thank you for these sage pearls of wisdom, my dear Watson.
Yes, I think everything you said is quite correct.

I’m just trying to find my feet and balance life, work, and healing like everyone else here, I guess.

I certainly don’t want anything to go wrong with my leg. What kind of chronic conditions could develop if you over do things? I thought just rest and ice could solve most things, but being just a simple person, I never thought that something else could happen???

Wow, you certainly have had a lot of things happen too. Like you, I think I am living poor, but the words “investment in our future” has struck home for me as I believe it is, indeed, just that.

Well, thanks again, I do so hope I haven’t done anything diabolical to my leg and it really is hurting now, but you know, it’s amazing what one 50MG Tramadol will do!!! it would be wonderful to do some hydrotherapy but no such facilities where I live. :sigh:

It is just so wonderful to be able to come onto this forum and talk with you and al the gals who have such a wealth of knowledge. What a wonderful facility this website is.

You take care and perhaps we’ll chat again, my dear Watson.

Cheers. :swim:

Probably not as dire as some of our over zealous PT folks could face...tendinitis, bursitis...probably just normal recovery stuff with you that needs more elevating and a little more stretching and short walks to break up all that sitting.
Try to take some gentle rest, icing, and getting about time this weekend.
Healing hugs!:ice:

Thanks. So much Mojo... You have a lovely weekend too!!

1st day of September today and spring is here in Western Australia. Such a glorious day!!

Cheers
:).

Happy One Month Anniversary!
You're doing well. Learning you limitations.
So it's Spring in Western Australia. I love Spring!
We'll be saying goodbye to Summer soon in my part of the world.
I hope you have a beautiful Sunday!
@Skydove

Hi Layla,

Happy spring to you too!

Yaay. I can’t wait for spring, then summer. I do love the rain in winter and it is important to us as we are on rainwater tank for our sole source of getting water. But by the end of winter I’m a bit over the cold and rain. Although, it really doesn’t get that cold here in WA. So beautiful days ahead and things are looking up.

Cheers. :loveshwr:

We're freezing here during the Winter and this is how we exercise > :snow plough:
It's coming, no stopping it.
You're Spring, we're Fall. You're Sunday, We're Saturday. Crazy :heehee:
But we have fake hips and BoneSmart buddies in common. I'll take it! :loveshwr:

@Skydove

Ha haaa Snow plough. We don’t have snow. The coldest it gets here in 10 is around 10-14 degrees Celsius. Most of the year we are in T-shirts, shorts and thongs. I love the hot weather and the best and we are truly spoilt by our beaches. I’ve often wondered what snow would be like, I guess cold but you could till have fun skiing and skating, I would imagine.

Well I hope you have a happy winter full of joyous winter sports.

Take care and lovely to be able to chat with another hipster, like you.

Luv xxxxx. :hiking:

Hi Lovely ladies

Just have a couple of questions. Does anyone know when it is safe to sleep on your operated side? Also, when is it safe to sleep on your unoperated side without pillows between your legs?

Thank you so much

I had anterior RTHR and was sent home with no precautions. I had a bit of the "log leg" thing going on the first few days, but as soon as I felt confident lifting and turning the thigh I was onto my left (preferred) side. That was around day 8/9 post-op and Oh boy did it feel goooood.

@Skydove i had two anterior hip replacements and was allowed to sleep any way I could but to use a pillow between my legs. My last THR was my left; I slept on my right side from the first night but it was five or six weeks before I felt comfortable sleeping on my left side.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for your answers and in particular the link to sleeping on side. I can’t sleep on my operated side yet, as too painful. Still have “log leg” and wondering when the heck this will go. But must say I am looking forward to sleeping on my side after 30 odd days of putting up with sleeping (if you can call it that) on my back. Wondering also when leg will stop hurting.
Thanks again everyone :) xx
