Ankle Ankle surgery 12/21/2023

Love the photo, @MissFanny.

Here's what I looked liked after my ankle surgery. The right was the surgical ankle, but I managed to sprain the left in the fall so it was booted! ( I was fortunate (?) to have had a pedicure the day before the accident, hence the red toes.)

I'm glad you can ice behind the knee and also feel the coolness of cold packs through the splint. Happy movie watching!

@benne68 I need a pedi so badly! I think it’s going to be a while. A friend of mine who had this exact accident/injury 11 days before mine also sprained her other ankle! She sent me a photo of her “good” ankle and it looked so bad. I got lucky there. Only destroyed one side.

I still have a long road ahead of me, but I am pleased with my progress so far. I feel like I have turned the corner from the first brutally painful days.
Oh yes I'm afraid you do but the first 2 weeks are the worst, after that either you find yourself adjusting or it just improves a lot. You do need to be really kind to yourself. I think getting attention to that injury as soon as you did may have saved you a lot of long term problems. It was 2 weeks before mine could be operated on, way too swollen to start with so delayed recovery. Good luck

Ah I feel for your friend, she reminded me of the time I broke both ankles at the same time, they were not major breaks (one was an avulsion fracture which is actually a type of sprain) but 6 weeks with one leg in a cast & one in a walking boot was bloody hard. And I went to work most of that time! That was the time I found my favourite physio, I call her magic hands, she really made a difference when I was quite low.
Now I think of it I've had four broken ankles not three!

I am so glad they could do surgery right away, too. It’s such a long haul.

I was waayyyy too early in trying to cut my pain meds. Yesterday turned out miserable and I came dangerously close to the max acetaminophen for liver health. I am going back to my regular schedule of pain medication for a couple days. I am paranoid about requesting refills because the surgeon’s nurse gave me a hard time the first time I requested a refill. I am definitely not abusing these meds and would prefer to be off them rather than on. I just hope they keep me refilled until I have the pain under control.

Yes you were, don't be daft, you need support for some weeks as it will go up & down a lot. Don't let someone who has not been in your position tell you how much pain you are in, she's just a nurse and you should not need to beg for help, tell her straight if you get some more you might not need them but that's beside the point. Always get some spares, you won't overdose but need painkiller choices

Fashion icon right here: sweater dress, tube sock, one tennis shoe, and my many ice packs. :heehee: My husband is bringing me down clothes that are easy for me to get myself in and out of. Too bad I packed away my summer T-shirt dresses. I could wear those with cardigans. Trying to send my husband on a mission to find anything is a lost cause.

Feeling a bit better today after resuming my regular schedule of pain meds. Well, now I know. I can try again in a few days.

I think your legs look adorable in that dress and your fashion accessories.

I agree with you about sending a husband on a search mission.
I know for myself, if in this predicament, I would grab a pair of my husbands baggy sweatpants and give them a whirl.
But seriously, you are rocking that sweater dress

I bought several pairs of joggers when I had my hip surgeries, but they have elastic cuffs at the bottom so they are really hard to pull over my splint. I have this wide legged cashmere pants and sweater set—it works really well, but I have worn it 3 days straight. :heehee: I just remembered I have a pair of flared yoga pants in my dresser. I will send hubby on a mission to find those tonight.

Dress is not working so well with the wheelchair. It’s . . . indiscreet, shall we say?

Oh nice! Those will do you really well for your recovery. Thank goodness for Amazon.
