Revision TKR 3rd time around on left knee

Has anyone here heard of or had experience with Daniel Dziadosz, MD.? he is the doctor I will be seeing next week. He was in Virginia and Georgia ad is now in St. Petersburg, FL. He is trauma/reconstruction specialist in ortho.

I'll ask @Jamie

Jayann, I cannot understand how come your knee is having all these problems if it's your fibula that is fractured? And you said something about screws as well? The fibula has no part in the structure or function of the knee joint.

I don't think Dr Maale will do Skype and I was more thinking of you having him do the surgery. He is the best by far.

I don't know why the fibula is fractured. It seems that my leg is very weak. I am trying very hard to find someone local but will travel if I have to. I was also thinking of Mayo in Jacksonville. I don't know the procedure for seeing someone out of state. Do you visit for a consultation and then go back for surgery? I am not sure I can take the traveling. I wonder if (for a fee of course) other doctors would look at your X-rays and other doctors notes. I know nothing takes the place of an exam.

When you next see a surgeon, if he brings up your X-Rays on his screen, I wonder if you could take a photo of them? Seeing what has happened to your bones would make it easier for us to understand.

Don't give up hope. I'm sure there's a surgeon who can fix your leg.

Hopefully the X-rays came through (my son did this for me, I am not computer savvy) an you can crop them appropriately. The last one is right after surgery March, 2017 (looks OK) the first two have the obvious bend in the leg July, 2017

I'm sorry, but I don't know anything of that surgeon other than he is a trauma specialist. There aren't a lot of details about his actual specialties out on the web, which you probably already know! Is it out of the question for you to consider seeing Dr. Maale in the Dallas area?

I do have this recommendation in Orlando:

I am praying that you can find someone to help you. Come here and vent any time you need to. We care.

Dr Hadekuwich did my first 2 knee replacements at Florida Orthopedic in 2007 and 2008. I am trying to stay local but I think if I travel I will go to an academic institution.

I have decided to consult with a physician Dr. Bostrom at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY. It is amazing to me the "leg work" ha ha that I have to do, signing forms, different departments, etc. to pull this together. Hopefully he will concur with my doc here in St. Pete - I need 3 good consistent opinions on what to do next. My physician Dr. Hirschorn is working with me on the 3rd opinion but believes strongly that Dr. Diadidoz is the guy to do this repair.
I have a very good friend, Dr. Paul Wallach, who has given me great advice about needing an opinion at an academic institution about how to proceed with this. I cannot afford any more revisions without losing my leg.

You should be in good hands at HHS in New York. But please, don't give up. I cannot imagine that you need to lose your leg over this unless there are circumstances or things going on that you either aren't aware of or haven't shared with us. Surgeons do multiple revisions. That should not be a problem unless you have something going on with your bone integrity itself.

I'm going to tag @Josephine so that she sees you've posted your xrays.

it appears to be just the fibula that is broken now.
Yes, it is the small bone, the fibula.
Well the fibula IS broken but it's broken because the tibia is. And the 'bend' in your leg is the fracture completely displaced. Very bad.

I can see in your xrays that the bone (tibia) is completely moth-eaten (yellow arrows pointing out the bits and pieces) which would account for the bone failing. And that plate and screws are ineptly applied with only three screws below the fracture. The leverage in that area must have been immense so it was bound to fail.

That was exactly what I said here
The problem with these devices is that only very advanced revision surgeons use them, mostly those in sarcoma centres.

So sorry you are going through this but happy you are/will be getting answers and the best course of treatment.

I will be having surgery August 1st now - trying to surrender my lack of control. I will have to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks - able to put the foot down but that's it. SO scared. The best case scenario is that I have a fracture that can be repaired, probably caused by the apparatus. The plate, screws and cadaver bone will come out and be replaced. Worst case is an infection, in which case everything will have to be re-done I think. I have to be in the hospital for at least 3 days (with my luck, more) to get the culture back. If there is an infection, they may have to re-do the entire thing - again. I don't know how I am going to take it. I am trying to get information on how long I have to be in rehab after. I only have coverage for 30 days. I really don't want to be there for that long. I am very much a home body and being away from my home (and doggies) is very stressful for me. I HATE hospitals. The one I am going to is old and has terrible food but is a trauma center. The thought of having to be there makes me very depressed. I was there for my previous surgery and then 8 days after for an infection. Can't believe i have to go back and do this again.

Thank you for your input Josephine - I am hoping it is an apparatus failure - that would be the easiest to fix. The trauma doc's guess is that was the case but he won't know for sure until he rules out infection. I don't have any signs of infection - drainage, etc. and my bloodwork is always good but he sent me for more specific bloodwork a few days ago. It is discouraging that you feel it wasn't done correctly the first time around :-( I like and trust my surgeon but maybe he didn't do such a good job.....yes, everything is fractured.

You will be prayed for by many on this site!
