DAY 49 - RIDING THE ROLLER COASTER

I feel like I turned a corner. It's 5-6 hours between meds and cutting down on the oxy. I woke up yesterday and felt like getting out of the house. So I hopped in my car and did some errands and got a mani/pedi. So relieved, my toes were looking pretty scary (lol). I was walking down the stairs at the shopping center where the nail place was and my knee buckled a little and got a little off balance, but other than that all good.

But then I woke up! My knee made it clear that it was over-worked yesterday. Throb, burn, ache. Spent the day icing and elevating. Still kept my meds at 6 hours a dose. Anyhow, it just reminded me what a roller coaster ride this recovery is. It's hard to gauge activity level when you feel good.

So it goes... good healing to all out there and again and again: HANG IN THERE! :yay:

I guess you have taken out a membership in the ODIC (over did it club.) I was there recently! Hopefully you get out soon! I am a couple of weeks ahead of you and I can tell you the days on the rollercoaster get better until you join the ODIC! Hang in there on this slow healing journey. May there be less hills and dips in our future!

2 MONTHS - POST-OP :good-bad:

A little over 2 months post-op. Just had a second PT appointment and all good reports. Great ROM without doing those torturous exercises! Also, I had just bought a peddle exerciser but had not taken it out of the box. I asked PT what she thought and she took me to one of the bikes in the PT room, I was able to peddle very well no prob! She said I didn't need the little peddler. So YAY! Being so overconfident I did a 45-minute walk yesterday with a friend. All was good and I came home and iced. However, my knee was pretty mad at me and expressed its anger with some burning and throbbing, etc. I have scaled down the pain meds quite a bit and switched to Tramadol. I take them only once a day maybe! but last night I took 1.5 and my Tylenol as well. YUP overdid it! I am making amends today as I am doing minimal and resting with ice. It is so tempting when you feel good to be in denial and just forget about your poor brand-new knee.

That's my sad Christmas story for now. I will carry on and modify my walks... definitely in the burning, stinging, throbbing stage of the pain. I know it will all resolve itself with TIME!

HAPPY HEALING AND PATIENCE TO EVERYONE. :praying::thumb::) :-) (::yahoo:

I sure understand! It's been a really busy week for me. Miss Knee is enjoying a down day (she demanded it.) Next week is going to be quiet for me as I recover from another surgery on Tuesday.

That's my sad Christmas story for now.
This is not a sad story, we all have days we overdo and pay for it.

The following are examples of a great update:

I love the Hallmark Christmas movies! And, right now they are on 24/7, on both Hallmark channels I have. :banana-santa:

This is so true and it gets many into trouble. Thankfully you took measures to remedy the pain quickly. I hope it has eased by now. The ODIC (over did it club) is not the place any of us want to be especially when doing so well as you are. Love that you didn't do the torturous exercises!

Happy Two Month Anniversary, Merry Christmas too! Wishing you many blessings in the New Year!

9 WEEKS - POST- OP

PHEW! I seem to get fatigued & sore the day after I go out and run errands and groceries, a few little stocking stuffers. Of course, it makes sense to feel tired the day after. I was supposed to do some shopping today with hubby but just could not seem to get up and going. I have a busy weekend, so I thought I should sit today out. Just have to acknowledge that I am still recovering and Christmas will be the best I can do right now.

Anyhoo, just wanted to vent. 9 weeks out, and sometimes I feel I can do all the stuff. No can do!

BEST WISHES TO ALL!! (AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT..) :xmas-wave-smiley-emoticon:

I totally agree! I haven't wrapped any presents. I was supposed to do that before I went for this recent surgery (hysterectomy). Probably won't wrap presents. Rest rest rest. My baby knee Lucy is loving the rest. And now it seems my family Christmas is going to be on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!:merry-xmas-smiley-emoticon:

STILL WEEK 9...

Yesterday I walked! Last night had a restless night - I was supposed to go to dinner to a friends but cancelled due to upset stomach and overall fatigue, just general yuck. Knee feels just achey, legs are sore. But it's week 9! I'm bummed. I should be able to put 2 days together of feeling well, right?

Well HAPPY XMAS EVE! Be safe & warm

Well I sure hope your tummy, fatigue, and yuk clear up quickly without turning into the winter crud!!!!
Meanwhile hang in there! Pace yourself and remember you still have a baby knee that has no way to communicate displeasure except by kicking up a fuss.
Eventually you'll have a toddler knee that expresses itself in a more advanced way - "No!!!"
Before you know it, it will be a teen knee, ready to cut loose and be independent... only it might not have the best judgement, so you'll have to set limits
Pretty sure I have a teen and a toddler right now! :rotfl:

Best to you for the holidays!

Yay for walking! I'm sorry about your restless night. Hopefully, you will feel much better tomorrow. At only 9 weeks it is completely normal to have these ups and downs, even feeling extra tired after more activity than you are used to. With your tummy being upset, staying home was the best thing to do. You're only 1/6 of the way through this yearlong healing.

So sorry you're feeling under the weather. Hopefully it's short-lived and you sleep better tonight.
Wishing you comfort. :console2:

2 months- ish POST OP

I hope everyone had a great celebration, whatever you celebrate! I got to go to brunch at my sister-in-law's home with friends after spending the day before off my knee mostly. So I did a lot of standing yesterday and moving around up and down stairs. Today I feel stabbing, burning & throbbing (oh MY!),,, i have not had this level of discomfort since right after my surgery. Had to pull out some pain meds and I could even feel it with pain meds taken. It seems like an every-other-day event. I just wish I could calculate when I'm over-doing it...
I wonder if it's cumulative. I wonder a lot about this experience and how the healing progresses.

Just wanted to report on the PAIN :hissy: no fun, but the recovery goes on (and on and on!)

BEST TO ALL TRAVELING THIS PATH! :sleeep::tiredwheel::good-bad::shrug:

I have the same problem, it is so hard for me to know (before it’s too late) when I’m overdoing it. I think it’s because that line moves every week or so. Also, as you feel a little better, you tend to do a little more. Relax and get some ice going and I hope you feel better tomorrow!

I just wish I could calculate when I'm over-doing it.
Unfortunately, most of the time we don't know we are over doing it until we have the after effects of over doing it and our new joints throw a temper tantrum! Take the rest of the week to baby that poor knee and let her calm down.
