THR 2 yr update

Welcome @tyorke1 to the other side. Sounds like you are making a smooth progression into recovery. I also had a spinal and loved it. Came out of it like I had had a nap. I also had a very low blood pressure too, which then went sky high. Very strange. But strange things happen in recovery. I hope things continue to go well for you. Have a great week.

my wife and I have discusing me changing my dressing , I want to she is nervous . is there anything you pit on the dressing , or just clean with soap and water let dry and reapply. thanks

Hi @tyorke1
I had a teeny little blood spot at the bottom of my incision for a few days to a week. I'm talking smaller than a pencil eraser. I'd just lightly rub over my incision with a soapy hand while showering (hands washed first)
Ligthly pat dry with a clean towel after done showering. Then hubby would re-cover with gauze and tape wearing a disposable glove.....I was like a cop, instructing him each time :heehee:

I let it dry completely never applying anything other than the gauze & tape.

@tyorke1 My dressing was removed before I left the hospital (and not recovered) and they didn't give me any directions to keep it covered so I haven't done anything except wash and dry it the same way Layla described above. It may depend on what kind of closure you have - I have internal stitches and glue on the incision so there isn't anything to get caught or rub on clothing. If it was bothering me I'd just put some gauze over it as well. I wouldn't put anything like ointment on the dressing unless they instructed you to do so.

Thanks I have staples , I am thinking it should be covered, thanks

My incision was glued and told to keep it dry. Not to put anything on it. With staples I’d keep it dry and covered.

what is normal looking when you change your dressing. i changed mine some yellow and some red,

dropped to one perk for mid day, no good!!, back to 2 at a time , every 4-4.5 hrs

Yellow, like pus?
Red, like blood?
Is that what it looks like?

Is the drainage colored or the skin? Skin around incision likely to sport a lot of colors over the next few weeks - any and all colors of bruises - new and healing.

To me, anything that looks like pus coming from the incision site warrants a call - it may be nothing but I'd rather ask and be reassured or get it treated while it's minor than risk it getting worse.

I agree about the pus, especially if there's a lot. Better safe than sorry.
@tyorke1

I agree with others, if you are concerned get checked.

Get it checked...should've given you specific instructions.
Go as soon as you can...they should've let you know specifically how to handle incision care.
