THR 12 weeks post op issues

Hi Nsarova,
Stopping by on the five month anniversary date of your THR to say :hi: and see how you're doing.
I am wondering how your second opinion appointment went last week...if you care to share with us.
Always know that we're here for you and wishing you the best. Hope to hear from you soon.
@Nsarova

Thank you for the 5 month well wishes! I'm scheduled for an MRI on August 17th. The side of my thigh is still really swollen, still stiff and range of motion is trash. Trying not to give up but I'll at least hold on until the MRI before I call life quits.

You're welcome, Nsarova. I am sorry for the swelling, stiffness and limited range of motion. I wish you the best for the MRI on the 17th. Please keep us posted.

I went to the Cleveland Clinic for a 3rd opinion and this is what the surgeon wrote on the after visit summary:

Pain due to internal prosthetic device, initial encounter (T85.848A)
Painful left total hip arthroplasty with groin pain, clunking sensation, swelling, limp, and pain greater than expected postoperatively. Recent CT shows small fluid collection without mass/tumor; concern for possible acetabular implant not fully seated or early loosening/implant complication; infection workup pending final hip aspiration culture.

Is early implant loosening a common occurrence? Could this have been prevented if a screw was used to secure the cup?

Hi Nsrova,
So sorry you're dealing with ongoing pain, it is unfortunate. :console2:
I can understand why these findings would raise questions and concerns for you. Because this involves detailed imaging results and potentially a complication, and you're awaiting the results of the aspiration culture, it is really important you discuss your situation with your OS. He'd be best to determine what is going on and what may have contributed to the current situation. I wish you the very best and hope your appointment provides clarity and some reassurance.

Hi Nsarova,
Stopping by to check in. Wondering how you're doing? Hopefully you know more as you hit this seven month post op milestone.
Wishing you the best!

@Nsarova …. Screws are not always used with hip replacements. A lot depends on your bone health, the amount of dysplasia present, or surgeon preference. There are both pros and cons to using screws. So the answer to your question about whether one or more screws should have been used is one that your surgeons will need to answer for you.

Do you know if your implant was press fit or cemented? It is possible that micro movements following surgery can result in loosening. It is also possible for the loosening to be difficult to diagnose at its early stages. I think you’re wise to continue researching with surgeons until a reason for this pain is identified. The pain is real and there is a reason for it to occur. In your search for a surgeon to help, be sure you are dealing only with revision specialists. These are the people who see more of the problem cases and can better identify a problem that is not easily apparent.

I’m so sorry you have been going through all this. Please let us know how things are going and we’ll do our best to help and support you.
