TKR 10 week check up

but knee still swollen and stiff. This morn knee felt like a block of cement
Just as a matter of interest, can you tell me exactly how long you are icing your knee for? By which I mean how many hours in total each 24hrs.

At least 12 Maybe more.?Rough estimate, I ice most the time I'm wake with 10-30 min (30 being very unusual) and of course not when I have pt but other than pt I've only left the house twice In 7 wks. I try to ice some of the time I'm sleeping. Hubby says last nite after being gone 4 days knee has gone down. I can't tell cause I'm looking at the darn thing all the time! Yes! Knee obsessed!

Listen to your husband--I found it helpful to get that outside opinion when friends or family saw me after a gap in time. Like you said, it's hard to tell on yourself. Good news that he thinks the swelling is going down a bit.

My husband regularly looks at and touches my knee (testing temperature) and provides his own analysis of how he thinks things are coming along. It's a helpful perspective.

My hubby likes to tell me how swollen my knee still is. That's usually only in the morning and before I go to bed....When the sleeve isn't on.

Has anyone tried volterin cream for inflammation? I had some in the house so have been using the last few days. Oral anti inflammatories don't seem to be working.
Just talked to chiropractor in business for 35 yrs. He says he's had good results with electrical stem for swelling so I'm going to give that a shot.
Kaiser says it only helps with pain.
Hey! I'm willing to try anything at this point . Let me know if any of you have have tried it!

My surgery was May 18 BTKR. I am doing PT and stuff but our nurses are saying it takes time to heal. Some heal much faster than others.

It's been tough 4 me but I do see a light at the end of a tunnel...

I don't think you'll find the Voltarin works well for this type of inflammation. It's the result of your surgery and that's not what Voltarin is designed to treat. It was developed to treat arthritis pain. The e-stim may help and is worth a try. Many times insurance won't cover it so check first.

Did your surgeon tell you to take an NSAID? If not, then I would not be taking them orally or via gel.

Has anyone tried volterin cream for inflammation?
Research has shown that these gels only go about 1mm into the skin so are not good at all for the kind of pain you are experiencing - being post-op pain!
Oral anti inflammatories don't seem to be working.
Well they won't because they are rubbish pain killers! I wonder if I leave you this link if you will bother to read it? Medications: acetaminophen (Tylenol, paracetamol) and NSAIDs, differences and dangers
Hey! I'm willing to try anything at this point
I sugegst you stop trying this, that and anything and allow your knees to heal on their own. I'd hate to see you with a broken leg - you're be waggling it every five minutes to see if it had healed yet!

Good Lord, woman, do yourself a favour and allow that poor knee to settle down on it's own and heal!

Consider yourself scolded @naynay30 yrs. ! I consider myself scolded too actually. I've noticed today that I'm a bit sore too and am wondering if my short 1/3 mile walk three times a day isn't a bit much so soon. I'm going to cut back tomorrow. I need to be reminded often too that it's going to take those soft tissues awhile to heal!

Thank you, KT! My angst is always out of concern for you all - I always hope and trust that people will know that.

I'm following the advice on here and appreciate every ones kind understanding responses and comments! But it U can't say anything nice I don't need the imput. This recovery is HARD enough! @Josephine I am resting icing elevating and doing some lite stetchs and alittle walking in between! So good God woman please give me a break !! I'm going stir crazy !!!

@Kansas Teacher hi Roxie! U r braver than me! I havnt done any walking unless it's around the house or to PT.
and I was a 3 mile plus walker for 30 yrs. I was up more today than usual . Housekeeper here and I have to follow them around. They r gone and I'm worn out!
We are going to a family reunion on sat and I know I won't make it long. Either will my 90 yr old in laws. So we will be on the same page! Lol but I'm super social so looking forward to talking to people!! @Josephine I'm not happy with the recovery . I won't know if I like my new knee for mos. and no I couldn't post . It gave me a message saying U arnt allowed to post because blah blah blah. Oh well!

I've no idea what you got that. It was probably just a glitch on your device.
And what on earth makes you think I'm not saying anything nice? I've been nothing BUT nice to you.

@naynay30 yrs. , I've found that getting out even if it's just for a short walk to the mailbox gives me a bit of sun and helps my outlook improve. Do you have a porch or deck you could even just sit on to get some sunshine? I am a big believer that sunshine heals a lot of things -- including souls!

I think it will take all of us months before we can say for certain that we made the right call on our new knees. But, I also think that there is power in positive thinking! Even though I have bad days, I am going to choose to think that I am going to have the best possible outcome and that I will end up with a fully functioning pain-free knee. I honestly believe that, by thinking that way, I up the odds that it will happen!

Hang in there. You will be one of the success stories on Bonesmart one of these days and so will I!

To echo what Roxie said, getting outside can be so healing. Admittedly, I was quite scared to go out. But once I did it a few times, my headspace was so much better. For example, I went to brunch with my husband and toddler son this past weekend. My son was so excited I was there, it totally made me forget any discomfort. I bet you feel this way over the weekend!
