So another brief update. I'm on the London Underground going to a networking event and it's just coming up to 6pm.
So it's now into my 7th week post op. I was signed off by the surgeon to drive, cycle, swim etc and go back to work about 2 weeks ago.
I'm coming up to 1.5 weeks back at work and...
@raducanmihai wow what a great read! The volumes of stuff here on BoneSmart really is amazing. It's a full time occupation consuming it all.
Anyway I've found this story fascinating and very inspiring.
Coming up to my 4 week post op point in dreaming about getting back on my mountain bike and...
Thanks @dougie0216. The hospital gave me a very nice rubberised canvas pouch thing with water in it that I stick in the freezer for an hour. Works a treat unless I leave it in there for too long and it's rock solid!
The swelling seems particularly painful today and I'm even getting pins and...
Ok so another catchup.
Thanks for the advice @Jaycey I rang the hospital and spoke to a really helpful nurse who helped me put together a plan. I swapped to Paracetamol every 4 hours as before but added Tramadol at the same time of which I had a huge (in date) box from my previous surgery. In...
Hi @allegra welcome to this wonderful place. I broke my right hip 4 days after my 39th birthday falling off my mountain bike. I thought my life was over as I was 'broken'. I had a dynamic hip screw in for 2 years, it was removed two and a half years ago and I was hoping that I was now 'fixed'...
Checking in for a catchup.
It's now 7 days post op.
I was discharged from the hospital 3 days after the op. The idea was I would be out by 10.30am but in the end it was mid afternoon. Luckily enough time for breakfast and lunch!
Nothing wrong with the appetite for sure, but I did get a bit...
@sandyharman
Sounds like things are all coming together for you.
It's a bit too soon for me to give you a full report as I'm only 7 days post op, but what I can say is the anticipation of the op is worse than the actual op itself! I hope that makes sense.

Ok so my report from today. I slept from 11pm until 5.30am, woke up quite sore and managed to get a couple of paracetamol.
Slept for another hour and then breakfast.
I was really sleepy today but my mood was good. My physio exercises were easier to perform so there is noticeable improvement...
Thanks Jamie.
About 1 hour's sleep before new drip at 2am, then I slept until 5.30am so about 4ish hours - not too bad.
Hard to get comfortable and these pulsating leg things are a little intrusive.
I remembered yesterday my previous experience when I broke my hip was:
• Day 1 - amazing, not...
All done. I had a spinal blocker plus a sedative. Worst bit was waiting from 7.30 am until going in at 2 pm.
Seems good so far although haven't left bed yet. Legs have come back to life and I can pass water without a catheter. I can wiggle my toes now which feels good. Morphine plus paracetamol...
Good luck sandyharman.
I'm going ceramic on ceramic for my right hip. I'm 43. I'll let you know how it goes. Feeling a bit nervous now but also a little excited for a better quality of life.
