Preparing the home prior to surgery

I have a high bed also, and bought a non-skid wide step at Walmart.com - the kind that are used by older folks to step into a bath (or if you or hubby is handy, you could build one). It worked great - just stepped on that, then turned & slid my behind onto the bed, turned again and lifted my leg...

THR 2 weeks post op and miserable

Hi, @dianehelen -- although I mainly "lurked" on your thread when I first joined Bonesmart last spring, I have thought of you often and all your struggles. I'm glad to hear that your hip problem has mostly resolved, and that you have found a pain-free way to get some physical activity. A mile...

    URGENT Paging @Jaycey @Josephine re: Infection/ABx

Thanks to all who replied. I ended up taking an addl 500mg beside the 2g I had taken earlier, plus ibuprofen and icing the cheek. That helped a lot. I called the dentist as soon as he opened & he prescribed 875mg Amoxi to be taken 2x/day. It's calmed down a lot by now, and I feel confident its...

    URGENT Paging @Jaycey @Josephine re: Infection/ABx

Thanks for your reply, @Poppet. I took some more ibu and am icing the area, which is helping a lot. I think lying in bed caused it to swell more significantly, which scared me into thinking the infection was spreading, but the ice took a lot of that down, so apparently was more tissue swelling...

    URGENT Paging @Jaycey @Josephine re: Infection/ABx

It's 3:30 a.m. US Eastern time, and I am hoping @Jaycey @Josephine or someone else with medical knowledge can help me. I just passed my 1-year anniversary RTHR with great success, but came down with a tooth abscess a few weeks ago. Dentist gave me Amoxicillan 825 mg for 10 days, then did a root...

THR PA Gal is Totally Flipping!

Heading into my 6th month post-op. What a big difference between the 5th month and the 6th! Months 4 & 5, I was still struggling with sleeping on my side, nerve reconnecting and causing quick little stabby pains or zingy jolts up & down my leg, and extreme fatigue both from exerting my weakened...

    THR 1 year post-op

@Keecamp I noticed a big, big difference between my 5th month and 6th month post-op. Much more flexibility, much easier climbing stairs, walking, carrying things, and sleeping. Going into my 5th month, I went through a phase of hardly sleeping, because I had transitioned from the dreaded back...

I think I overdid it yesterday

Most likely just a strain from overdoing it and lifting too much weight in an awkward position, especially after having PT the same day ... been there & done that myself! Be sure you are taking your pain meds, now is not the time to skimp on them. Take it real easy for a few days, and keep icing...

THR PA Gal is Totally Flipping!

I passed my 12-week mark on Monday. Overall, very pleased. I had a rough week where I had severe insomnia and restlessness, with a lot of nerve "zings" up & down my operative leg. I became more diligent with my multi-vitamin and calcium/vitamin D, and added magnesium to the mix. That seemed to...

THR 50 years, it was a long wait..

50 years of pain! You must feel as if you have an entirely new life! Welcome to Bonesmart and the best to you.

Bilateral THR Trouble sleeping-anxiety 6 days post op

Quality and quantity of sleep is a big issue post-op, and it both leads to and is driven by our post-op emotions sometimes. Go to the Bonesmart library tab above and read the article about sleep deprivation. I think we all have had good nights and really bad nights, and it can be frustrating...

THR PA Gal is Totally Flipping!

I am SO grateful -- * that I had the surgery during the summer. That made it so much easier for clothing, just T-shirts and flowy summer skirts. No socks to put on & offf (except those blasted TEDS, lol!) No ice or snow or wet leaves to slip on. The hot days made the ice bag feel really good...

    THR IM's Recovery

Sounds like things are beginning to improve, @IMs! Once you get past the next week, a lot of the soreness and swelling at the incision site will begin to improve as well, and your PT will be so much easier & more effective. Keep eating those prunes for a while yet, though! And keep icing your...

    THR IM's Recovery

@IMs, as you have found out, there is NO privacy here on Bonesmart, LOL! :giggle: No subject is off-limits when it comes to helping each other recover. It is awful when you're in a hospital setting with strangers and you have to make requests regarding your most private functions ... but my...

    THR IM's Recovery

Prunes, prunes and more prunes! Have someone pick you up a bag of "snack-size" prunes (in the raisin or salad section of the grocery store) and eat 3 or 4 at a time, several times a day. Plus drink LOTS of water. Once you start walking with the walker, that will help also. As for being tired ...
