Has Anyone Had THR as Outpatient Surgery?

Terry, I had my first THR in Oct 2012, I was in the hospital for 3 nights, did very well, and went home, did in home PT, followed by outpatient PT (3 weeks later) and had a great recovery. I had my other hip replaced in June 2014. My operation was the last of the day, I finally got into my...

THR Happy Hippy From the other side

Yes, that was probably me. I am about 14 months out from my second THR (and almost 3 years out from my first). I do not notice my hips any more, it is really excellent. Even my OS, who I saw for my 1 year checkup a month ago was impressed -- both by his own work and by my excellent shape, now...

    Class of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 Hippies

It is my one year anniversary next week of my RTHR, done 6/23/2014. My LTHR was done in Oct 2012. Both were very successful, no pain now, little muscle soreness when I exercise, all has gone well. I see my OS at NYU Joint Disease Hospital in August, one year from my 6 week followup last year...

    Hip Injection

Cindy, Both hips were done 'anterior' by a very experienced OS who is a wonderful doctor. My scars are hard to find now and very small. And I was told I can do anything I did before surgery (including downhill skiing), and I am much better able to do everything, including excellent workouts...

    Hip Injection

Cindy, You've been through a lot. So I understand waiting. But do not wait too long, better sooner than later. About the shots, I had 2 shots in my left hip, then one shot in my right hip, both before the surgeries. The first shots made most of the pain go away, but only for less than one...

    THR scheduled for April 20th

JoJo, Hi, I've had both hips replaced, I am sure I would be in a wheelchair at least part of the time without those surgeries. With the surgery, I am more flexible and gym-worthy than I had been in years, not so much because of the pain -- which was only for a short time before the surgeries --...

    Hip replacement in spring

Constanze, I am a bit older than you, I've had both hips replaced, and I am pain free, able to exercise with more flexibility than I've had in many years and I am able to do any exercise I want. During those years I had no pain, but poor flexibility due to hips starting to lose cartilage. In...

to wait or not to wait...

Go for it right away. It will only get worse, and it will likely get harder to recover the longer you wait. That's what I did. Read my RTHR recovery thread, I did not wait, I had a miracle recovery.

    THR Bill's Bionic Breakdown

Bill, I remember your posts from around the time of my RTHR, mine was done a bit before you I believe. I am so sorry to hear about your poor outcome, and this miserable OS and his refusal to take responsibility and help you. My best friend and golf partner has had every joint done, one of his...

Feel like a ninny who can't decide

gardengal: My opinion is 'the sooner the better' and I am living proof: My recoveries have been amazing. I did not have much pain until only months before the surgeries, but I did not want to wait. But what I discovered is that for years before the pain, I was dealing with lack of flexibility...

Feel like a ninny who can't decide

gardengal -- you said 'only 2 1/2 years...of pain' -- when I did my LTHR after 6 months of pain, it was too long a wait. When my right hip started to hurt, I ran as fast as I could to the OS to set up the RTHR surgery. Here's the thing: It will NOT get better, only worse. And the sooner you do...

(Pre-pre-op) Hip pain: arthritis, bursitis or something more ominous?

Congrats! While the shot and the PT are no picnic, they are MUCH better than THR.

(Pre-pre-op) Hip pain: arthritis, bursitis or something more ominous?

Sandy, I was just reading your thread when my friend called, she is a physician, she has been having a lot of hip pain, she wanted the phone number of my wonderful OS at NYU, she is going in to see him to have an x-ray and get a proper diagnosis, then schedule surgery on her right hip (she is...

    8 Month Anniversary

Eight months ago today I had my right hip replaced. It is also more or less a 28 month anniversary of my LTHR. Anyone who needs encouragement, take heart in my story: I am now 68 years old, both hips are healed -- at least I cannot tell any difference between them -- and I have no pain at all...

THR Hip Hip Jeffraaaaay! Hip Hip Jeffraaaaay!

Jeff, Great report. I am so happy for you about your recovery going well. And you have a wonderful family, that counts the most. About your co-workers, you are not the first person to post thoughts like that here. And we all learn that the number of people who really care about us is small...
