My OS said I could swim laps as soon as my incision was closed up. I have been swimming for 7 months, including a frog kick with the backstroke. No issues, in fact it feels as if the exercise gives me back some of the mobility I lost in the years leading up to my replacements.
Sometimes it even varies from night to night. I was able to sleep on my op side a few nights ago for a little while. When I tried it last night, no way! The good thing is that for the most part sleeping positions and everything else continue to improve.
At first my lower back did hurt but when I mentioned it at PT they gave me an exercise that totally cleared it up. They have me stand on the stair step things sideways while holding on to something for stability. If my left foot is on the edge, my right foot is off the stepper. Than I raise...
I think since I have gone back to work my recovery has gone backwards. Before returning I was exercising quite a bit - walking, exercise bike, the standard hip calisthenics most of us are given to do. Now I spend too much time sitting on my hip and not exercising it! I just took a walk around...
This is my 2013 scar at one week. My OS uses tape to close the incision. Pardon the panty lines!
This is the same scar today, it will be 8 weeks on Monday .
This is my left side which was done a little over a year ago.
gershom I also have feline help when exercising. My tuxedo likes to sit on my chest while I am doing the bridging. Great moral support anyway!
I have been reading your thread all along and enjoying your observations very much. You have made such great progress for having both done at once and...
My son and his wife are in town and today we went to the Art Museum in the morning and hiking in the afternoon. It was wonderful to get outside in the woods and hike! Last fall I would not have been able to walk that far. Thank God for technology and for hip replacements!
pjm I saw your post in a different thread and it sounds like you are doing better, especially if you got sleep last night! It seems to me that in Australia they have you progress with your recovery slower that most of the OS's in the US. You mentioned how long they want you to use crutches and...
Sounds like stepping up backwards would be hard! Tonight was the first time they had me do anything with a band. They put it around my knees and had me do squats with my back against a wall while pushing out on the band. Last year's PT they had me using the band more. They have started...
Mary are you planning on asking your OS about the knee or hip decision when you see him on the 12 th? Just over a week to go! Before I saw mine last time I had a page full of questions written down. There is no way I would have remembered everything without the list!
Glad you found your cell...
Very interesting PT this evening. They tested me for strength by standing on one leg and balancing then switching to the other leg and balancing on that one. After that he had me walk backwards away from him and back to him several times, then walk forwards away then towards him. It seems I...
That is the same kind of feelings I am having. Wow! I can do this or that now! Today I cleaned my bathrooms, got down on the floors and scrubbed them good. After I started I realized my hip was not making those awful snap crackle poping sounds. Also I can reach my left foot. If this keeps...
