Welcome to Bone Smart and congrats on your recovery from ALL. I had my hip replaced two years ago and rarely check in anymore but something had me do it today. This is a great resource for planning and expectation setting, although with your youth, you'll likely be on the fast track for...
Thought I'd check in just shy of my one year anniversary. After my last post, where I was doing pretty well at 6 months, I spent a week in NYC. There I did far too much walking, and set myself back again.
So when I got home, I went back to the PT and kept up through the end of the year when...
@Sashimu I love hearing that you can walk for an hour now. I think you're about 6 weeks ahead of me and we've both had some challenges! I was feeling pretty good finally, after PT, then went on a vacation to NYC where the walking caught up to me. And that's just incidental walking since I...
I am one day shy of 6 months now and, since I came here to do a little reading, thought I'd do an early 6 month check-in.
The PT has worked wonders. I am now walking 2 miles at under a 19 minute pace without problems. Only issue now is I was carrying the cat up the stairs and got a sharp...
@Coacher I think the dry needling is related to acupuncture but they operate differently. The PT inserts a very thin needle and I generally don't feel anything. Then they move it gently when sets off very brief muscle spasms or "twitches." That part is absent in acupuncture. I think the...
@Mimicking I am sorry you are having so many ongoing problems. My PT says that everything is connected so just a couple problems can result in pain in a lot of spots.
And on that note, I do want to put in a plug for physical therapy--assuming you get the right PT (as in don't hesitate to...
Hit 5 months yesterday and wanted to update in case someone else with similar concerns happens upon this. I have had maybe 5 PT sessions at this point and it seems to be helping quite a bit. These have included dry needling to release trigger points, some massage and a variety of stretching and...
@CricketHip @Layla Thanks for the anniversary wishes. At this point, I am in a fair amount of pain, including pain at rest (mostly in my back) which I never had before. We did one of my post-surgery goals this weekend--a two mile (easy) hike around a lake, which I did with a cane. Well I was...
@Sheila-Seattle I don't know if you'll be back to read this but you made my day with your 6 mo report. Like you I felt setbacks between 3 & 4 months, with more pain, and started to be more careful. But so happy to hear you feel great 2 months later. Perhaps this is a "stage" where expectations...
Thanks @Layla Yes, I've been considering calling the surgeons office. I skipped my final (12 week) visit--they encourage and most of their patients to skip it, but I've actually regressed pain-wise since that point. Good suggestion!
@Eman85 Still weak at 1 1/2 years--I am so sorry. I am pretty sure I'm not overdoing it. Average daily steps in the low 3000s (not much more than before surgery) and if I have a couple very low days, it's not any better. Well my PT replied back that she has some more ideas so I guess I'll see...
@Jaceyduck I was completely crazy prior to my surgery! I actually ran around doing living will stuff the day before surgery (which was extra tough getting two non-related live witnesses during my pre-surgery/post covid test quarantine)! The anxiety reduced quickly afterwards though I still had a...
