Glad to hear your doing so well , I think we're all nervous of moving at the start , it's no harm to be cautious , you'll be amazed at how quick your recovery will be ( I did 40 min on turbo trainer two days ago :) ) .

I'll have to have a look at that one Zum , I watched the first five episodes of the British/French ''The Tunnel'' , it's brilliant . Does the US version's villain have a manifesto with five requests ??? If so it's the same story .
I've gone through thirty episodes of ''The Sopranos'' , I've never seen it before , another great show .
I'm ok watching loads of tv again because I'm getting out a lot , driving is great .

It won't be long by the sounds of it before your independent , driving and training again WOOHOO :)

Well done zumzumpammy.....sounds like you had a really good day..so glad for you. Must be great to get rid of that wedge....all I had was a rolled up towel which seemed to work. Here in the UK we have costco too and I love it!! Made me laugh your description of yourself on the scooter...I think women are rule followers and men disregard them all. Hope your great recovery continues.....xxxx

I'm trying to post my x-ray pic, we'll see what happens....I have a question about sleeping, or rather not sleeping. I'm having a lot of trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I don't nap much now, not taking pain meds except Tylenol. When I was first home from surgery, I slept solidly and for hours at a time, and was napping a lot too. I know my body isn't needing as much rest now, but when I go to bed, I feel tired, even sleepy, but then cannot fall asleep! I get uncomfortable on my back, move up, move down, turn my pillows, just can't fall asleep. I've tried going to bed early, staying up later, no matter what it seems I cannpt sleep until after 1 am, then sleep later til 8 or 9. After I fall asleep, I wake up several times still, every two hours or so, sometimes I'm hot (lack of hormones) sometimes I don't know why I'm waking up. So frustrating! Any suggestions?

zumzumpammy, maybe this article from the Library will explain what is going on with you:
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

Most of us have suffered from this from 2 to 3 months post op. You just have to catch sleep as you can, go back to naps, and be prepared to have something to amuse you in the wee hours of the morning when you just can't sleep. If this does not resolve itself by 12 weeks post op, you might want to talk with your GP about a sleep med to get your biorhythms back in sync.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

Me too...@zumzumpanny It's 3am herd in the uK and again I'm wide awake having slept from 10.30 pm. Doesn't seem to matter how much I do..or don't do..I cannot seem to sleep for the whole time....it's frustrating as I feel exhausted when I go to bed.....funnily enough it was better the first 6 weeks or so and I was napping then more during the day. I'm trying to go with the flow ....and remember what my body has been through...it's protesting now!! Hope it improves for you. Luckily I'm retired so no real time pressures on me...how good that is!... Cheers Chrissie xxx

I've got the same problem :headbang:
I was sleeping in the spare room for the first five weeks and am back in bed with my partner again , I think the freedom to go to bed and watch tv , read etc. allowed me to sleep or not whenever I felt like it .
I now go to bed the same time as my partner and when I can't sleep I'm concious of her working the next day so don't make a fuss and just ''toss and turn'' getting short spells of sleep in between .
I'm sure we get back into a normal sleep pattern and it's just frustrating for the time being , another thing we'll be looking back on when things get back to normal .

thx all and esp bottomshollow for that link, I don't think I had read it before, but read again, and it is very helpful. Of course I had a good night 2 nights ago, was so happy & rested! But then last night, not so good. :gaah:
Trying to go with the flow, getting ready to go out for some breakfast with my daughter, and know I can have a nice long nap this afternoon!

After I fall asleep, I wake up several times still, every two hours

This is me too Zum. It is leg pain that wakes me continuously. I did add a magnesium vitamin at night. Every once in a while I do get a decent night, and it seems to be slowly improving. From what I have read it seems to be fairly common among some of us lucky ones. LOL! I had the night sweats also for about the first 5 weeks. They are gone now.

Hi all! 4 weeks anniversary today! I'm only taking Extra-strength Tylenol at night, sleeping much better, walking without my cane inside. I take it with me when I go out, mostly I feel safer if I have it and people steer around me, but when I met my daughter for lunch I left it in car and was fine. I am still amazed when I stand up and don't have to slowly straighten up and get my balance over my bad hip. And also don't feel that constant pain! I still read posts about doing too much too soon, and the backlash that can cause, so I am cautious. But in general I am doing well, feeling stronger, so glad I went ahead and had the surgery. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for BS and all of you that have helped me on this journey!

zumzumpammy , congrats another milestone reached well .
Sounds good , I had similar anxieties and did do too much at times , I found if I wasn't stupid about how far I went then the come back was quick and I knew my limits so I knew what I could and couldn't do .
I used to take my crutch with me as well when I was ok without it but I've always try to err on the side of caution , if you take something with you , you can use it , if you don't you can't .

I's great that the pain is gone , it's great that the operation is over , t's great to be on the other side and doing so well , your pre op fitness is definately a benefit as is your positive outlook .
I've done two 30 mile spins on the bike this week , eight weeks down the road and feel great , you won't know yourself in another four weeks , I'm amazed at the speed of the recovery , I'm still cautious with it and don't ever forget that I'm still recovering .

Take care

zumzumpammy What a great recovery update. So glad that all is going well. It's amazing that at four weeks you can do without your crutch for so long....I'm at 10 weeks and still using one 50% of the time but enjoying being free of that nasty pain. Keep up the good work and here's to more good updates. Take care. Chrissie xx

Hi all! Today marks 5 weeks from surgery. Everything is good, getting stronger in PT, sleeping much better. My only complaint is this LLD, it really affects my gait. I've written about this a bit in @Doupie's thread, but basically the new hip (R) leg is longer and I realize it will take time to even everything out. My PT put a 1/2" lift in my other shoe and I can walk more evenly when I wear those shoes. However, I usually wear other shoes and am barefoot a lot in my house. When I walk in regular shoes, after awhile my lower back is killing me! I've never had back problems before. When I walk it feels like I am stepping up & over on the R leg, when I walk in the shoes w the lift, I can walk more evenly. Some are saying I should not have the lift at all. SO my question is-do I just walk and have my back hurt? It also starts to hurt in my groin, and goes toward the knee. Should I still take Tylenol during the day, so I can walk and not hurt? Or will the continued uneven walking cause more problems? Yesterday I went to the mall for some Christmas shopping, probably walked a total of an hour, with stopping in stores included, by the time I got to my car my back hurt as much as my hip did pre-surgery. To say I was upset is an understatement. I have only been taking Tylenol at night, not feeling any pain in the hip or incicsion at all during the day, but maybe I need to medicate 24/7 as this pelvis/LLD works itself out? Any suggestions are welcomed.:sigh:

@zumzumpammy I am your twin, this LLD is no joke....:hairpulling:
Wear the lift, don't wear the lift....:headbang:
My PT says that I need to wear the lift, but everyone on here says top let my pelvis settle, but I will have to use the cane for balance and to compensate for the 3/4" difference. My IT band was stretched and I suffered pain in my operated leg/knee, but my PT finally figured out that the LLD was contributing to this problem. Just like yours is contributing to your back pain.

I am so happy that your recovery is going well and just in time for the holidays. I am like you and simply take tylenol during the day unless I overdo it and then I take pain meds before I go to sleep. I am finally sleeping well again and my body is returning to normal. I will keep you up on my latest attempts without the lift, which you can't use when you're walking barefoot and that is how I spend the majority of my waking moments. I can't wait to get back to normal......:ereindeer:

@Doupie@zumzumpammy Well I spent 7 hours out shopping yesterday....felt kind of sore last night...had to use the crutch when I went out to dinner...got back home and went to bed.. Got up this morning all stiff and pain in thigh, leg and knee....just prepped dinner/ lunch for 6 house guests at the weekend , changed the beds and I cannot even lean on the op side without an elbow crutch....my LLD is shorter and it's causing havoc today ...well I'm back on the bed icing....wondering hie I'm going to get through the weekend now...this us the most pain I've been in for 10 weeks! Not a happy bunny! Thinking of you both ....knowing how you feel and not liking it one bit...Chrissie xxx

Hi BoneSmarties, and Merry Christmas :luv4y: Just wanted to check in, and especially to give @Doupie a little info. Tomorrow is my 6 week mark, and I saw my OS on Monday, actually it was his PA, I didn't even realize I hadn't seen the Dr until I was all done. Anyway, the PA says everything looks good, my ROM is great, they are happy with my activity & progress. I asked about the LLD, told her how much it was bugging me, so she measured me and said it was equal, went and got the xrays and looked it them and said they also showed the legs as even. I was so relieved, but still not happy that I am struggling so much with it. She said that even though I am doing really well, it is still only 6 weeks out, and that it usually takes between 10 & 12 weeks for everything to settle. She said she had just seen another woman that day, who had the same complaint/problem and now at 10 weeks it was completely better. So that gave me so much hope that this was not going to be a permanent problem, but it is going to require a lot of work on my part. She gave me more stretches & exercises to work on, more like isometric pulling with one leg and pushing the other ( I would have to try to show the little diagrams she drew but I can explain more later. ) These are supposed to be done maybe every other hour, and don't take too long, but is supposed to help my pelvis get back in alignment. Walking is feeling better, not hurting my back as much, my stride is getting longer and more even, but I am still aware of the LLD. But overall I can see a difference since last week. I'm heading to Hawaii the day after Christmas, so I will get to experience the airport/metal detector for the first time. Not sure if I will have my laptop so I may not post til the New Year- if so I wish everyone a truly wonderful New Year's and holiday. I have so much gratitude for everyone here that has helped me, answered a question, given advice, or just shared their own story. Happy 2014!:cheers2::cheers::yay::thankyou:

Enjoy your holiday @zumzumpammy and look forward to hearing from you when you return - sorry you will miss our online NYE party :( - But have fun and great report btw..
